Day one has been pretty much a washout thus far, with only a few holes in the morning fourballs having been played. Play has resumed now though.

Here are the fourball pairings --

Phil Mickelson & Dustin Johnson (USA) vs Lee Westwood & Martin Kaymer (EUR)

Stewart Cink & Matt Kuchar (USA) vs. Rory McIlroy & Graeme McDowell (EUR)

Steve Stricker & Tiger Woods (USA) vs. Ian Poulter & Ross Fisher (EUR)

Bubba Watson & Jeff Overton (USA) vs. Luke Donald & Padraig Harrington (EUR)

Hopefully Woods and Mickelsen won't be paired together at any point. That's always had bad results. Woods in general hasn't been much of a Ryder Cup player, but this year little is expected of him. . . even though he's of course the focus of much of the media coverage in the U.S.

Europe wins the Ryder Cup, and rightfully so. I haven't rooted for team USA since 1997 (the Tiger factor). When he's gone, it's the USA for me again.

US loss adds another taint for Tiger (not Mickelson). After all, all eyes were on the Great One.
