Although a standout high school running back, and sterling track star, he was moved to WR at A&M, which although isn't ideal, certainly is better than being "switched over" to safety or some other BS. Here is his bio from the A&M website.

I remember saying that I thought Swope would have similar success as a RB to Christine Michael at the FBS level and that Swope should have actually been ranked slightly higher by whiterivals if fair b/c of his elite sprinter speed. Michael isn't quite as fast as Swope and I think Swope has better hands too.

I'm disgusted that Swope wasn't given a shot at RB for Texas A&M, but at least he's still got a chance to make plays on offense.

I recall seeing the video several months ago. If the young man did not get a bona fide shot at RB, there is something devious about the case of Ryan Swope. I hope he blossoms into a star at WR. The bad aspect of that is that Mike Sherman will come off looking brilliant.

I recall Texas A&M RB Christine Michael was ranked 4th nationally as a tailback and high up in the Rivals 100. Swope was ranked as only a 3 star athlete (= not even in the top 300 players in the nation).

My take: Michael was ranked too high and Swope was ranked MUCH too low! I think Swope is the slightly better RB prospect, but just try telling coach Sherman that.

Ryan set the Texas A&M single season reception record with 67 this season. Unfortunately, most of those were WR screens and slants, so the yards per catch wasn't that high.

Good article on Swope, with the inevitable comparisons to the "White" slot-receiver Wes Welker.

With the success of Welker at the NFL level, and Swope at the collegiate level, hopefully more schools will try to recruit and play more players that fit this exact mold.

I guess this can be seen as a promising development, but in the case of Swope, he was an all-state (Texas no less) RB, and all he can be at a D1 Texas school is a slot receiver. Even though he was a better back all through high school than current backs Gray and Michael. Unlike Welker, who was slightly built going to Texas Tech, and a definite WR, Ryan Swope is a running back playing receiver. When he gets the ball on the hitches, he's a back in his moves, power, not a typical receiver. So although it's good that he's making a mark as the best receiver on the Aggies (big surprise, not), it's a mild disappointment from a caste perspective that he is not able to play his natural position, and is moved to a "racially appropriate" position, the Welker.

I totally agree guys. Swope has running back written all over him. Maybe they can experiment with him in the back field next year. What a weapon to have on your team.

Wanted to continue what FootballDad(over 2 1/2 years ago) & CF started before that in HS...now that Ryan Swope will be turning Pro! He showed his Runningback skills in the Cotton Bowl on his TD reception vs Oklahoma! Breaking the tackle and out running the secondary...

Here is a few interesting takes on Swope...one giving him 4th Round grade...another projection in the 3rd Round. And not a Welker comparison...instead Edelman & Decker. Will be interesting to see which team will select him??

A league source tells The Sideline View that Texas A&M WR Ryan Swope is currently carrying a fourth-round grade from NFL teams.
The same source likened Swope to Julian Edelman more than Wes Welker "in terms of play style." In November, SI draft analyst Tony Pauline suggested Swope could be drafted in the third round with a playing style similar to Broncos receiver Eric Decker's. Where he is different is that he has a bit more power than Welker and is faster. Whichever team drafts him in the 3rd or 4th round will have the steal of the draft. If given the opportunity, he will outperform every single wideout drafted this Spring over the course of his career.

I was thinking the same thing, the one time that the comparison to Welker is warranted they mention two other White receivers. Swope is like a bigger version, basically a runningback playing receiver, and he should have stayed at rb but oh well, hes pretty damn good in the slot.

I posted this in the NFL Combine thread as well but his stock has taken a hit already.

Ryan Swope, WR, Texas A&M

Ryan Swope had some of the smallest hands at the Combine; they were measured at just 8 1/2 inches. I already had Swope in the fourth round of my 2013 NFL Mock Draft, so I probably won't be moving him into Day 2 anytime soon.

As far as Swope going to the Dolphins, it would be a good fit. Tannehill is a young quarterback that will improve and I expect Hartlines numbers to improve this year as well as long as he stays healthy.

He ran a 4.34 40-yd-dash. That cannot hurt his stock!

I hope the Saints pick him up. They need to show Devery Henderson the door; he can't catch a cold anymore. Drew Brees could do for Ryan Swope what he did for Marques Colston and Jimmy Graham.

Brian Billick surprisingly just said that Swope put up "first round numbers." Before that Swope had been pretty much ignored during the segments I watched, although Mike Mayock did say some positive things about him. Wouldn't surprise me if New England or Denver takes him in the second round, or Miami or New Orleans in the third if he lasts that long. Sean Peyton to this point has been always been a world class a-hole the way he's treated White receivers, but I agree with Deus Vult that a Brees to Swope combo would be a potentially great one.

In my humble opinion, Swope is the class of the WR draft this year. He will outperform every wideout in the draft, largely because he'll most likely be given the opportunity to do so. He can play the slot, outside and even play a bit of RB. This is not to take away from the talent of other white recievers in the draft this year, but most of the others will have to go through the mandatory racial treatment.

For caste-busting purposes, is it better for Swope to go to Denver or New England, where white receivers are already treated well, or Miami, where he could be on the field at the same time as Hartline, or someplace where he's a groundbreaker? Or should we just be hoping he gets a fair(ish) chance? Probably the last one. I hope he goes somewhere that already has one white wideout in the rotation. Seeing two on the field (plus a TE) does more visual harm to the Matrix.

It would be best if Swope simply goes to a team with a good QB. As a high draft pick at a position in which whites have "broken through" (slot receiver), he's going to be on the field. Ironically, one of the places he would really pile up the numbers is Washington. RG3 loves the short pass where receivers get big YAC, but I would hate to see a star like Swope make a black quarterback look good.
