That is awesome news, nice to see all you guys genuinely excited about this guy. The sub 10 is just around the corner, especially if he is this fast at 19.

I keep checking IAAF & Track & Field News to see if they post anything about this kid, and nothing. it's such ass because when the 19 year old kid in Jamaica ran that fast it was everywhere. typical anti white BS! has anyone seen anything about these races?

No articles but at least every forum possible has realized some of the significance, so at least the hardcore track people know.

Even black fans realize he is a special talent with a time like that. Some guys on other boards even said this wasn't a one off fluke or timing error as he broke up a Jamaican sweep at the World Youth Championships a few years ago. Somebody was asking why Shirvo didn't get the record with his 10.03 in 98'. He was technically in his 20th year and you must be in your 19th year for the full calendar to qualify as a junior. There is a bad omen though with many junior stars as many burn out to injuries or too much hype. The co world record holders both have been disappointments as seniors and Shirvo has been talked about on this board.

It's amazing to me how skinny he is. It just goes to show that some people are just so naturally gifted. Wariner is a perfect example. Dont' get me wrong. He trains his ass off just like I'm sure Guliyev does but they jsut have a slender build. Then you see them blow away the hulkish sprinters. It's kind of funny in my opinion. Ramil will fill out some as he is very young. This kid has so much talent I've never been so excited about track in a long time.

The big question is who will be the first go go sub 10? We have several guys hungry as ever to make history. It is going to be an interesting summer!

Will it be Guliyev? Cerutti? Pickering? Lemaitre? I hope they all run the 100 in Berlin. Watch out for Schab on his home turf.

lets hope Blum is better and makes the team. with his 60m times, he should be setting a PR this year.

My guess is secret. I can't tell you who I think will go sub 10 first.

You guys will have to figure it out but I hear he wears red, white and blue alot.

I'm anxious to see what Guliyev does at the Euros. He is running both the 100 & 200 meters. Let's hope he can at least stay in the 10.15/20.50 range. We can't expect him to go that fast every race although I hope he does. The only thing I will add is he will have to get into line 2nd for the sub 10! Good luck Ramil.

according to this link, young Ramil Guliyev will be running again on July 5. in the short blurb, one of the names mentioned to be at the meet was Lukasz Chyla of Poland. i don't recall seeing his name mentioned on the boards before, but apparently he has a personal best of 10.12, which is better than Matic Osovnikar.Chyla is 28.

please pardon me if i've missed his being discussed elsewhere.

I predict everyone around him now will put all kinds of pressure on him. For the rest of this year he'll tighten up every time he runs because he is over trying to break 10.00. Breaking 10.00 will become the consuming passion of his life. He'll push so hard in training that he'll develop calf, groin and back injuries. He'll miss most of the next 3 seasons except for meets that are run in very cold, rainy and/or windy conditions. To cope with the pressure he'll get jobs on the side modeling and being a TV announcer. Beautiful women will throw themselves at him. He'll use his endorsement money to buy a Lamborghini Gallardo and the best house in wherever that place is where he's from. By the time he is 23 to the time he is 26 he'll break 10.30 4-5 times. At age 27 after failing to break 10.55 the entire season, he'll fade away in to oblivion, his 10.08 out of nowhere being the high point of his life.

Just kidding. I'm as excited as everyone else over this kid.

Make it four. Lemaitre, Herring, Guliyev and Pickering. I see more stepping up in the near future. The future looks bright at the moment. We need numbers of guys. I don't want just one guy to go sub 10. I want many guys to acheive this so that it won't be another lie that whites can't run fast. Then we can concentrate on getting back on the medal stands.

Can someone find me a link to the euro cup league results where Ramil Guliyev is racing? I can't seem to locate one. Thanks guys. I know he was supposed to run in both the 100 & 200 meters for his country this weekend.

I don't think he is running. I checked the results and the start lists for the 3rd league and his name was not there.
I had read that his next race is in July.

My opinion is that he just took it easy. It was a huge negative wind in a race with no competition. He also still has the 200 tommorow and the relay. He is all they have for serious talent in his country. Why push it if you don't have to. Ramil still won easily and I'm sure tommorow will be the same way.

Well, one of the track websites reports that he ran a 10.24, not a 10.76 as the results still show. I gotta believe that 10.24 is correct.
I don't buy that he could run as slow as 10.76 because he was taking it easy.
Here's the report,
"Azerbaijan sprinter Ramil Guliyev, who improved his sprint personal best to 10.08 and 20.42 in 2009 (second and first best time by a European this year), produced another strong performance of 10.24 to win the men's 100m race, adding 13 points to his country's tally of 182.5 at the end of the day. Azerbaijan finished the day in fourth spot behind Moldova, who have accumulated 202.5 points."Edited by: jacknyc

Does anyone know who he ran against to put up that 10.08?

I look at it this way, he is .09 seconds away from breaking the 10. On paper that actually looks like something but it is the sum of perhaps a little better traction, a little better reaction to the gun, maybe a very slight change in head or hand position, maybe a little more relaxed, etc. If and when he figures it out and runs 10.15 or lower consistently he will better the 10 some day and that elixir vitae will have been found.
