Robert Helenius

There's no question about it, the amazing Doctor Klitschko brothers are now in a league all their own, the two greatest heavyweights of all time - and yet they weren't fighting, and knocking out, opponents of the caliber of Brewster and Peter at the same stage of their pro careers.

Helenius is also 8 years younger than Wlad. It will be interesting to see a Wlad and Helenius fight in another year or 2. If Helenius continues to progress the way he's been then him at his absolute prime at 29 and Wlad will be 37, which will make an interesting matchup. Wlad is probably better right now but IMO Robert has the potential to be on the KlitschkO's level. Time will tell though and another interesting matchup for RH would be Povetkin, the 2 top young contenders with very different styles.

Robert now scheduled to fight June 25, with an opponent TBA. Probably a tune up fight, would be great to see him fight Wlad in the fall.

Things I'd like to see Helenius continue improving on...

Stamina, Body conditioning, Jabbing, Lateral movements (head, body, footwork).

This guy is fast becoming another worthy successor to the K brothers. Let's not forget Denis Boystov though.

Both are 1986 born.

I don't know if anyone will be a successor to the amazing Klitschko brothers. They are a unique phenomenon.

I think that Boytsov is terrific, but he doesn't fight enough or move up. He's been plagued with health problems and injuries. Last I heard they were saying his injured hand should be good to go by May. It's almost May now.

Helenius vs Lyakhovich, part of an excellent heavyweight doubleheader (along with Povetkin vs Chagaev) will coming up in less than two weeks, on August 27.

Yes that's an excellent card with some of our top fighters. Also, Sebastian Demers fights Andre Dirrell this upcoming Saturday. Then on September 3rd we have Jan Zaveck vs. Andre Berto.

Helenius wraps up sparring

Robert Helenius (15-0, 10 KOs) has wrapped up the sparring ahead of next Saturday´s WBA/WBO Intercontinental Heavyweight Title fight against Siarhei Liakhovich (25-3, 16 KOs) in Erfurt, Germany. After dusting Lamon Brewster and Sam Peter, the Nordic Nightmare is eager to clinch the next prominent scalp. “The sparring has gone very well,” Helenius said. “I am in great shape and I am ready for Liakhovich. He is a very accomplished fighter who boasts a great deal of experience, but I have also been in the ring with former champions. The fights against Peter and Brewster have given me a lot of confidence. I am eager to notch another important victory on Saturday night.”
Together with coach Ulli Wegner, who just celebrated his 40th coaching anniversary, Helenius has been training in Zinnowitz, Usedom, a small island in the Baltic Sea. “The conditions have been perfect. We now travel to Erfurt on Monday to get ready for the big fight,” Helenius added.
In the main event of the night, Alexander Povetkin and Ruslan Chagaev collide for the vacant WBA Heavyweight Title.

Epix will be showing the fight online for free (and in English). THye also will show Povetkin v. Chagaev. You can sign up for a free trial on their website:

I tried that with the Vitali fight. Total waste of time. Not even going to bother this time.

I hope Parody can find some streams for us.

Streams may be a bit more difficult to find from now on, since the myp2p site was shut down early this week.

However, besides the EPIX stream, I have managed to find one more potential stream for this heavyweight card.

It's being televised in Russia, Germany, Finland, Poland and the US. So likely by fight time there will be plenty of internet streams in existance, it's just a matter of finding them.

Wow - a white Frenchman wins on the undercard. Tony Averaldnt beats the favored Arthur Hein.

Good to see a true French athlete for a change.

Who do ya'll predict wins these fights. I think Sergei has a chance but I'm going with Helenius in that fight. It depends which Liahkovich shows up. Povetkin should beat Chagaev.

What the hell was that walk-in music?!?

Sounded like a Russian horror movie soundtrack or something.

Is the Helenius fight the main event? If it is how is a European fight ahead of a "world title fight"(I don't regard the WBA fight as world title fight, I think it's an unofficial eliminator)?
