Recent BUSTS

Perfect spot for him to end up, other than totally unemployed. I highlighted this guy in multiple write ups for the Bucs as he always managed to keep Anthony Nelson on the bench. Of course, per snap, Nelson was far more productive year after year. Maybe now that this bust is gone, Nelson can end his racial apprenticeship before he’s retirement age….

Ok, so don’t think he’ll be great or elite. What then are you arguing on this bust thread? That’s it’s too soon to declare it?
Yes, precisely that, it’s way too soon for Young to be declared a bust esepically considering he was drafted onto one of the worst teams in NFL history. And Carolina did very little to improve the team around him in his second year. I haven’t said he would absolutely become great, however, I have said I’m optimistic about his long term development because of his character and work ethic. Young is a talented qb plus the league has become so much more protective of qbs, so his average (at best) size shouldn’t be a hindrance.

I am much more interested in QBs like Trevor Lawrence, Bo Nix, Drake Maye, Brock Purdy, Justin Herbert, Tua and Joe Burrow. Joe B is an MVP waiting to happen unless Cincy destroys his career.

Perhaps, but if we are looking at the #1 overall pick over 28 career starts what other conclusion could we come to thus far? Look at these stats and the corresponding win percentage. Abysmal.

I’d say the most damning stat is only 26 TD passing vs 28 starts. At less than one per game, one has to conclude a game manager. However, then you’d need have high competition percentages, a decent QB rating and some wins. What we see so far is a conservative, game manager possibly too afraid to make mistakes which is losing in the worst way possible.

A huge first round bust from 2016 still getting opportunities all these years later to show he still stinks. Over the last six seasons, Burns has a grand total of 80 combined tackles and zero interceptions, zero sacks and zero fumble recoveries. Yet he'll likely be instantly penciled ahead of Ethan Bonner on the Miami depth chart, who has star talent but is the wrong race and still awaits an opportunity to prove himself. Another solid example, as if anymore were needed, illustrating how the NFL operates on a racial spoils system.

Dolphins signed CB Artie Burns, formerly of the Seahawks, to a one-year contract. Burns was drafted by the Steelers in the first round of the 2016 NFL Draft. The nine-year vet has spent the last three seasons with the Seahawks, starting just one of the 21 games he appeared in while totaling 27 tackles and five pass breakups. Burns has started double-digit games just once in his career and shouldn’t be viewed as anything more than a depth signing for the Dolphins ahead of next season.

Third round draft pick in '22, has a whopping 12 career catches:

Saints signed RB/WR Velus Jones Jr., formerly of the Panthers, to a one-year contract. Bouncing around after his disastrous Bears stint, Jones Jr. spent sections of last year with the Jaguars and Panthers while touching the ball on offense a total of four times in three active games. Entering his age-28 season, Jones Jr. is essentially a gadget player on offense and shouldn’t threaten for much playing time with the Saints if he makes the 53-man roster.

Some interesting data that AI has gathered. Got the idea as I heard Boomer Esiason mentioning it last week on his morning radio show.

So 40% of guys drafted are straight up busts, while another good chunk are too, but get these 2nd and 3rd contracts filling out NFL rosters. And then year after year, the White percentage is carefully curated to stay around the 25% mark.

Good use of AI!
