Dan Burks had 15 rushes for 90 yards today in a close
lose. This kid has such great breakaway speed. It's too
bad he's on a team like UAB where he will barely be seen
if at all on tv.

I did see him on ESPN a couple of weeks ago.
It was interesting seeing a team playing a black QB,
a black fullback, and a white man running the ball.

Just saw that UAB played South Florida on national television on ESPN 2 tonight. The only box score I could find didn't list individual stats, but tailback Corey White (whose last name we can safely assume doesn't describe his racial background) scored all three of UAB's TDs in the game. Burks apparentlyeither didn't play or was the backup. And he went into the game averaging 5.5 yards per rush. Edited by: Don Wassall

Burks ended up with just 11 rushes in this game, while White had 15. Guess Dan isn't the starter anymore even with his 5.5 average per carry.

What is wrong with these people.White running backs are
constantly either benched, never or rarely play,or cut
by the teams.Even with his speed and power, the Univ. of
Alabama Birmingham can let Burks run the ball.We all know
why and I would have loved to see them try that back in
the 50's-60's!It's racist and that is the only way to look at it.Another great white running back gets screwed
again! You have to love this day and age. This sucks!

I was listening to the Tennessee-UAB game today. Tim Priest, the UT radio analyst, described Burks, "He's not a speed guy. He watches and reads the blocks. Burks will remind old-timers of Ed Podolak." Well, it's been a while since I heard a runner compared to Ed Podolak.

Burks fumbled on UAB's first posession to set up a Tennessee TD. He only had 12 yards in 6 carries. He did make some good runs on pass receptions. The Vols won 17-10, making UT fans worry about Tennessee's chances against Florida and LSU.

Burks had 12 rushes for 78 yds and 2 tds in yesterday's win over Rice. It looks like he is the starter again.

i'd like to be a fly on the wall in the lockerroom to see what white kids like Burks go through on predominantly black teams. can you imagine the daily struggle that he faces to overcome constantly? or what he had to do to earn the starting spot back, knowing that he's on a MUCH shorter leash than his black counterparts?

all respect to Dan for not giving up on himself, and continuing to fight for his rightful place at the top!

I'm glad Burks is starting again. I wonder what will happen when they play Memphis? Those have been some close games the last few years.

Burks is officially the starter. again. according to reports, he was benched because of a hamstring injury in the Tennessee game not his fumble in that contest. and after his impressive performance last week, it looks like he is finally 100% again.

here's what his coach said about him:

"Dan is well, that's good," UAB head coach Watson Brown said. "Nobody has seen Dan Burks healthy this year. We need Dan back out there getting his carries. I think we've missed him. We've missed his big plays."

on a side note, 2 of UAB's other backs are now sidelined due to injury as well.

Well, that should get Dan a whole lotta carries against SMU this week. I'll predict that he will get 150 yards on 30 carries.

I think they have a decent chance against Southern Miss. tonight. Southern's defense won't be able to stop Dan, although they might slow him down a bit. I'll predict around 100 yards for Dan in another fairly close game.

Burks was hurt for most of the game, unfortunately. He reagrravated an
injury that he had last week. Luckily, it doesn't seem too serious.

Dan did not play last night because of a knee injury sustained last week. UAB managed to beat Memphis, who had an injured Deangelo Williams in the second half, 37-20.

I took a look at the game towards the end and heard that Burks didn't play due to injury, and that the black RB on his team played really well. I don't like the sound of that.

Unfortunately, most white RB's don't get a chance to come back from an injury like blacks do. If Dan Burks gets a decent chance to start again after his injury, I will be surprised.
