Jones is the starting quarterback for Arkansas. A senior, he is 6-5 (sometimes listed at 6-6) with 4.4 speed and great running ability. He has averaged more yards of offense per game with Arkansas than Michael Vick did with Virginia Tech. Tonight against Georgia he will break the SEC's all-time record for rushing yardage by a quarterback.

This guy is special. If he were black he would be receiving just as much publicity if not more, than Vick did in college. But since he's white it looks like he's going to get the Eric Crouch treament and be "converted" to a safety, tight end or wide receiver in the NFL.

They actually talked pretty good about him today. They even showed highlights of some of his games as a starting
forward on the basketball team.Man can this kid jump out
of the gym.You should have seen some of the nice dunks that he did and he had a couple of fade aways that looked
very smooth.It can't be,it's 2004 and we have another
white 2 sport athlete!Remember that whites are slow and
we can't jump.Matt Jones is a great role model and I wish
him the very best.I'll take him over Deion anyday!!

Matt Jones had 10 rushes for 110 yards and 1 touchdown on
the ground. He also had a nice game passing with another
touchdown in their victory.Matt Jones has NFL written all over him.He is a 2 sport athlete but most experts will agree that he is pro football material. If they screw
this kid over, than I think I will boycott the league.Good
luck to Matt the rest of the year.

I just posted this also on the Eric Crouch thread in the NFL section.

Very bad news: Matt Jones has now been officially screwed over -- he is on the South team in the Senior Bowl -- not as a quarterback but as a wide receiver! 6-5, strong arm, intelligent, a leader and an incredibly fast and elusive runner, freakish really for his size, and he is not allowed to be a quarterback in the NFL.

Just to show the type of all around athlete Matt Jones
is,he caught a few passes and a touchdown pass in his
first game ever as a receiver.Let's see,he starts on the
basketball team, plays qb as good as almost anyone, and
now catches a touchdown as a receiver in a all star game.
He should be talked about by the whole country for the
fact that he can play anything.Remember the stupid Bo
Jackson commercials.Bo knows football,baseball,etc. Why
can't they ever hype a white athlete that is a star!
Matt deserves to play qb.If he does stay at receiver,I
hope someone drafts him and he becomes another Drew
Bennett.

matt jones is expected to be a third or fourth round pick. however i believe that if hwas to play more at wr this he could have been a first or second. he is a long strider so he doesn't look that fast but he averaged over seven yards a carry and was able to burn many corners. he also is 6'6 and can leap. i think he should be considered to be a plexico buress with speed.

Matt Jones is a guy with what I call natural speed. He can leave you wondering what just happened while looking like he's out for a morning jog. Archie Manning was the same way, just watch a tape of him at Ole Miss. Josh Bright, the QB from Delta State University from 1998-2001 is the same as well. 6-5 and could run like a deer. Him being white and being at a Division II school got him a big ignore from the NFL, he was signed as a free agent by Baltimore but was cut before the 2002 season started. All three of these guys could leave defenders grasping for air, without running as if they are guilty of a crime as some guys do.

I totally agree with you Col.Reb. What is even better is
that Matt is currently doing speed drills in AZ to even
get faster.Look for him to really open eyes at the
scouting combine. He will be a star no matter where he
lines up and plays.Just give him the playing time.

As Colonel Reb says, Archie Manning was a great runner at Ole Miss. I remember during the 1969 season, seeing a film of Archie running 80 yards for a TD against Kentucky. He dropped back, then took off down the field.

All three of these guys are just like Eric Crouch. He could run, albeit in a different style, like the wind, and got no shot. I hope he does give it a try at some position now. If he, Bright, and Jones were all in the league, it would be a major boost of speed. The thing I don't understand about why nobody wants them on their team is due to their all being so exciting to watch. I mean these guys will give you a heart attack just watching them go, leaving people in the dust. These guys would all be the focal point of the fans in the stands and at home. I guess thats what they don't want, instead they want us watching some overhyped, inconsistent, and unreliable black QB so we'll buy further into the Caste System.

It keeps looking worse and worse for Matt. This is from this week's Sporting News, under the headline "Conversion Factor": "During Senior Bowl practices, the Buccaneers worked out Arkansas QB Matt Jones at wide receiver and tight end; he'll probably play one of those positions in the NFL. The Bucs need a quality tight end and now have a good read on whether Jones can fit the bill. He needs to improve as a blocker, but the team loves his size (6-6, 237) and long stride. They'll consider taking him in the second or third round."

So he's already in the process of being converted from receiver to tight end. And let's pray Tampa doesn't draft him, as Jon Gruden pulled off the Caste System's highly valued triple rim job in '04, single-handedly screwing Farmer, Schroeder and Jurevicius.

Don't you love statements like "He needs to improve as a blocker." You mean after playing quarterback all his life he didn't instantly make the transition to what whites are supposed to do in the NFL -- block for their athletic superiors? I have a sickening feeling that he's going to end up as a tight end; whoever drafts him will tell him to pack on 15 or 25 pounds (which will undoubtedly make him slower than his present incredible 4.4 speed) and he'll be all set for life in the Caste NFL.

I heard some info on Matt Jones that could shed some light on his move to WR. When he was a baby, he had some problem with his shoulder that persist until today. The Arkansas trainers say that he never talked about it. They also said that he has never thrown the ball in practice the whole time he was at UA. The only time he ever threw the ball was in the games. They said that he would have to throw the ball in practice in the NFL, and that's the reason he doesn't go out for QB. If all this is true, maybe there is a legit reason he switched positions, and one that is not due to the Caste System.

Do you have a source for that info? I'm not doubting you, would just like to know where that comes from as I have never heard it before.

It came from a sports reporter from either The Arkansas Democrat Gazette, or the Fayetteville-Northwest Arkansas Times. I can't remember which it was, but he was on SEC Conference call today. He said that because of that life-long problem, he didn't have much choice in switching positions, and he and the show hosts were all praising Jones for his ability to take a called play and turn it into something all his own, which threw off the defenses he played against, and then with his speed.

If quarterback is out for that reason, the test now will be whether this stud athlete is allowed to develop into a wide receiver with an amazing package of height, speed and elusiveness (a better combination than any WR currently in the NFL), or will he be forced to beef up, slow down, work hard on blocking, and become a tight end.

Yep, it remains to be seen whether he'll be given a decent shot at playing time. This guy makes plays happen! He lights up the field and gets you wondering what is coming next on every play. He deserves a start soon, but we both know that in the NFL, deserving means nothing unless your black.

After his jaw breaking performance at the nfl combine,
Matt Jones is finally getting the respect he deserves!
Some are even calling him Superman because it's very
rare for an athlete that tall & big to run a 40 like if
he is 5-10.Jones is 6'6 and 242 lbs.He ran a 4.37 40
incase anyone missed it.Here's a great article comparing
him to Drew Bennett.Good luck Matt at qb or wr!

Cool article Whitelightning. It would be nice if they compared him to Jerry Rice, or some comparable black reciever, but hey that's the Caste System, what can we expect. I wish Matt well, and will be watching him wherever he is. I believe he can be the most exciting player in the league to watch, with Brandon Stokely coming in a close second.

Even though Jones is being screwed over by not being allowed to play quarterback, he can at least help opponents of the caste system if he can make the transition to a "black" position and become as good or better thanDrew Bennett (assuming he isn't totally shafted by being made into a tight end or H-back). I couldn't get the link of the article White Lightning posted above to work, so here it is:

"To any NFL scout who is still not completely sold on Matt Jones, the Arkansas quarterback-turned-wide receiver, I direct these two words: Drew Bennett.

"Last Sunday Jones, a four-year starter at quarterback for the Razorbacks, ran the fastest unofficial 40-yard dash for a QB in NFL Combine history. Jones ran a 4.41. To give you an idea of the relative speed, the next fastest QB, Louisville's Stefan LeFors, ran a 4.62.

"The problem is, no one is really evaluating Jones as a quarterback. Rather, the 6-foot-6 Jones, who started 10 games for the Hogs' hoops team last season, is being prodded and poked as a talent at wideout. Jones switched positions for the Senior Bowl in Mobile last month and caught a touchdown pass.

"It may seem odd that a three-year starter at QB in the SEC, a player with remarkable size (6-6, 248 pounds), obvious foot-speed (he is the SEC's career rushing leader among QBs with 2,535 yards) and all-around athletic ability, is not being evaluated at the position he played.

"'I never thought I'd be throwing passes to Matt Jones," said All-SEC quarterback David Greene of Georgia during Senior Bowl week, 'but it's pretty amazing what he can do as a wide receiver. Matt's just a natural athlete. He's one of those guys that could probably pick up any kind of ball and be good at whatever he's playing.'

"That is why Jones reminds me so much of Bennett, the 6-5 Tennessee Titans WR. Bennett walked on as a quarterback at UCLA and sat for a few seasons behind Cade McNown. When he finally got a chance to start, he floundered in three games. He was yanked in favor of Cory Paus, and switched positions. In his senior year of 2000, Bennett caught six passes for 96 yards and went undrafted. His teammate at the other end of the line of scrimmage, Freddie Mitchell, caught a team-high 77 passes and was selected 25th overall in the draft.

"But Bennett was always both a natural athlete and a gamer. He lettered in football, basketball and baseball at Miramonte High School near Berkeley, Calif. His Bruin teammates would joke about how he had the best hops on the squad. Bennett once watched that Tiger Woods commercial in which Tiger bounces the ball with an iron and then whacks it; he went outside and practiced for a short while and had soon mastered the trick. Bennett even appeared with his roomies on a short-lived ABC game show, The Big Show (NCAA cops, relax: he wasn't on scholarship at the time), in which they were given a week to memorize trivia about the movie Ghost and then take an exam on it (they passed and won a big-screen TV).

"In short, while Bennett didn't find his niche on the gridiron in Westwood, it was evident that he was both an athlete and a gamer. You find a spot for people like that. Four seasons later, by the way, McNown is out of the NFL. Mitchell has caught 90 passes in four seasons in Philly; Bennett had 80 receptions just this year (and 169 for his career).

"Some NFL general manager may pass on Jones because he doesn't see him as a starting QB and is scared off by his inexperience as a receiver. Another GM will select Jones realizing he's getting two players for the price of one. Unlike Maurice Clarett, Jones is a guy who's already shown that he's willing to do anything to get on the field. As April approaches, Jones will be a name worth keeping up with."

Don, I agree totally. Matt will be a huge benefit wherever he plays, but if he gets playing time at reciever, etc. he will make a big impact. Countless thousands of kids will want to be just like him.

I used to hear all the political jargin that only blacks
could be tall, big, and fast. With guys like Danny Farmer,
Drew Bennett,Jason Witten,Eric Johnson,J.Shockey,Todd
Heap, and now Matt Jones, they will have to change the
way they think.I'll take a Drew Bennett anyday over the
overhyped Randy Moss.

I agree whitelightning. The only question is whether they will have the intellectual honesty to admit it. Somehow, I doubt very many will. But hey, miracles never cease.

Matt Jones is an incredible athlete. It doesn't make a bit of since to me to move a player from a position he has been successful at all these years. I have always known starting with Eric Crouch something was going on. Now since I have been introduced to this site I feel I know what is going on.

We're glad your here okra63, and with all of us putting our collective efforts into getting the truth out there, I'm sure we'll make a difference. Matt Jones is one of the guys I will continue to follow as he hopefully has a bright NFL career ahead of him, but it's clear the Caste System has it in for him, just as all other athletic white players, and whites in general.

I agree Matt Jones will have a big impact if he plays. Being the true, rare athlete he is, he will play, I can assure you.
