Just wanted to share this simple, straight forward video. I have been doing pull ups the incorrect way for over a decade now. The technique shown in this video has blown my mind haha. I am getting 5-7 more reps in easily.

An extra 5-7 must be nice. The chin-up grip adjustment without the thumbs in the beginning? Not really sure what else you could be talking about. A couple of years ago i went from 0-ish to 2 ish range to about a little over a dozen-ish in a little under a years time for pull ups not chin-ups. Back then the gym had gone to one of those bars with the 3 grip positions not a flat bar.
Present day back in the 0 to 1-sh zone, dream bulker too ashamed to try zone other wise I’d give the monkey chin- up adjustment a go and report back. If they ever start 5k’s again my fatass get back up to 4-6 with a lot of embarrassment. Marines were all about chin-ups and pull-ups in a weird obsessive way no other branch required it.

Since your last sentence had to do with the Corps, I'll comment. I'm an old man now and when I entered the Corps and went to PI for boot camp, we didn't do any what is now known as calisthenics/weight training or more or less any real PT as is known today. Our day was made up 90% of close order drill, learning marching and movement of the rifle (M1) while marching. Everything for the most part was about motion (not running though). We even walked to the rifle range when it came to our time on the range - went out early practiced shooting all day and marched back at the end of the day. As far as pullups go, yeah we did that from time to time and everyone could do from 12 -17 or so. Every so often we had a tug of war against another company (it could be a real grueling affair the way it was done in the Corps). Everything was built around an idea of conditioning that is long gone now. Nobody was over muscled. We were all "thin as a rail" and sunburnt as the saying went. Very, Very different idea of conditioning from now.

Didn't have to do any in army basic but jump and ranger school you are required to do pull-ups like the film shows.

Yea just the change in grip. I have been doing it with my thumbs wrapped around the bar instead of how he was showing it.
