damn. hope he'll be okay for thursday!

Peyton Hillis is day to day with a left hip strain.

Hillis' troublesome hamstring apparently emerged from yesterday's loss in fine shape, but the addition of another nagging injury is concerning. He is on a short week as the Browns face the Steelers' No. 7 run defense on Thursday night. Montario Hardesty (calf) is also ready to go. Even if Hillis is active Thursday, he'll be a shaky flex play.

Shurmur says he's good to go for ThNF, he took starter's reps today although was limited later, apparently.

I sure would like to see a big game from Hillis against the Steelers, but it's probably asking too much with his hip/hamstring issues, not to mention too many lousy coaches and teammates around him.

Wow, don't know if I can like and support Peyton Hillis anymore than I already do but I'll try. Two great men both fighting for great causes. Go Peyton! Go Ron!
Thou hast rightly stated. :)

he just cannot catch a break this season.

Peyton Hillis rushed just 10 times for 25 yards against the Steelers in Week 14.

There were reports that Hillis was cursing every time he carried the ball, so the hip may have been an issue. Replaced on two straight drives to start the second quarter, Hillis came back on just before halftime only to give way to Montario Hardesty throughout the second half. He has 10 days to rest up for the Cardinals in Week 15.

I hope Hillis can get some productive games out of the last few and then move on to a team that can be successful next year. I'd love to see him with Green Bay, for instance, but I doubt it will happen.

He needs to get the hell outta there...Chris Ogbonnaya led the Browns backfield with 27 snaps in Thursday's game, according to Pro Football Focus. Ogbonnaya filled the passing-down role while Peyton Hillis (26 snaps) and Montario Hardesty (21) split early-down snaps. Hillis acknowledged frustration after the game, alluding to a "rotation of backs and the system." A heavy workload for Hillis is far form guaranteed going forward.Source: Mike Clay on Twitter

I could tell Hillis was frustrated last night and most of it wasn't his fault. The pathetic o-line play, play calling, and constant rotation spells doom to any team. I do hope he can get rested better for next week's game and maybe have a decent game, all things considered.

Around the two or three minute mark before halftime, it was an opportune time to make use of Peyton’s receiving skills. It’s so simple really. Play to your strengths. He wasn’t on the field, though. Unless Hillis was injured, it’s imbecilic not to use him in that type of situation. I too, would like to see Peyton move on at this point.

He was injured, but still outproduced Hardesty who averaged 2.2 ypc. Chris had the big gain, but it was a draw and literally wide open space for about 20 yards. Its the kind of play Hillis would've taken longer, a full head of steam it would have at least went for 40. Chris has proven he can catch, but hasn't proven to be a threat with the ball in his hands. He is basically a fullback playing the tailback spot, and yet he can't pass block as well as Hillis. His longest reception is 19 yards. Chris is a very very poor version of Brian Leonard the way he has been used.

For what its worth, Hillis leads his team in rushing despite missing so many games and being injured. It shouldn't be held against him, its been a season full of injuries among top backs. Blount missed time, Matt Forte is out, Peterson is missing time. McFadden is out. Jamaal Charles is out. The only difference is Hillis rushed back, even in practice. The only other player doing that is Peterson, which might be the reason he doesn't play this week.

That's for sure.
The announcers specifically praised him for "picking up the blitz" after a downfield pass. But on that play, he got hit right behind the line of scrimmage and knocked back about three yards right into McCoy. It almost looked like he was hurled through the air. I couldn't believe they were complimenting him on that.

Peyton practiced fully today and this Sunday Browns have an easier match up against the Cards. i truly want to see him going over a 100 mark and getting few TDs in this injury marred season.

Looks like they can't put out the hit pieces quick enough in Cleveland these days.

I really hope he goes somewhere where he can shine next year.

Unfortunately, I cannot think of anyplace he can really go and get significant carries. Detroit, Dallas, Green Bay are all are passing teams. Chicago will probably give Forte the franchise tag. I think Detroit is his best option. Jahvid Best and Kevin Smith will keep getting hurt. I could also see him in a Rams uniform. Jackson consistently misses half the season every year with an injury.

He probably won't get starter's money anywhere now. He needs to get and stay healthy and go back to letting the "Hillis Curse" that afflicts the black RBs in front of him allow him his opportunities to be the featured back.

Long standing rumor is he'll land in Philadelphia. The Birds GM, reportedly, battled hard with Mangini to trade for him when he became available in the spring of 2010. Cleveland had to add Brady Quinn to the deal in order get him away from Philly. I don't get ESPN Insider, but Adam Schefter (sp?) supposedly mentioned in a recent blog that Philly will go after him after the season. I hope he says no. Dallas and Detroit, according to some media outlets, wanted to trade for him this season.

Anyone notice how Denver is running Spencer Larsen, an ex-college LB, this season? Imagine if they had a real powerback lined up next to Tebow? Willis M. is doing a good job this season, but he can't play forever and Knowshon suck$ balls. Wahington would be nice, although he might have to split carries with Helu.

I think best case scenario is he'll be an Alstott type (pre Gruden), who will share/split carries with a smaller black tailback. He'd be incredibly lucky if he ever got the some chance he had in Cleveland going forward.

I'm actually hoping the Colts have some interest in him or maybe even Cincy,Benson can't be around much longer.I'm also hoping the rest of the teams out there know how the damn Cleveland media can be.

The Saints, to be paired with Darren Sproles. None of the other backs have proven they can stay healthy, including 1st round pick Mark Ingram, and only Pierre Thomas has proven to be somewhat of a threat in the passing game, but can't stay healthy, this has been proven over a few years. Ivory is a tough runner but can't finish a game without getting injured. Ingram would be the wildcard, and while he will be a bust, I doubt they will give up on him so soon, but it would give me a reason to watch the games with my Dad, I don't get to spend much time with him.

San Fransisco would be a good spot. Gore is old and has dealt with injuries in the past.

Kansas City is a good spot. He could be paired with Jamaal Charles as eases back from that knee injury. Jackie Battle is crap and backup. McCluster has proven to be a very poor version of Charles, he is a backup as best, he scored one time, on a fluke play, most of his "long" runs were in the 10 yard range with 2 runs going over 20 yards and one going 32, he was caught easily on all of them, he would do better in a slot receiver role like they originally had him, he would just have to learn how to run routes better. I could see a duo of Hillis and Charles doing great there.

People have mentioned Denver. That would be a great spot, McGahee is overacheiving this season, hasn't played like this since 2007 and I doubt he can keep it up for much longer. The question is, do they have the same GM? It would be embarrassing to say "yeah we were wrong, we want him back".

The Bills have Fred Jackson but he will be 31 and has had injuries. That would be a nice spot.

The Dolphins- Reggie Bush has proven to be effective in short doses, Daniel Thomas hasn't lived up to the hype they gave him.

Green Bay can be a good landing spot. Yes they are a passing team, but they would run more if they had better backs. I know Kuhn hasn't gotten a chance, but he is a good back, where Hillis is a GREAT back.

Detroit, they aren't really a "passing team" like the Packers, I am sure they would be more balanced if they had a back like Hillis.

Now the Eagles wouldn't be the ideal team, no matter who the back, they have proven to be a passing team that doesn't run as much (despite not having a Tom Brady type of passer). Luckily for Hillis he is a great receiver out of the backfield. Would they split carries between Hillis aned McCoy evenly? I doubt it.

The Jets would be a great team as far as run blocking goes. The question is if the coach would use him. Maybe he gets this "crazy" idea, that the best way to beat the Patriots is to do what they do, get more White players. He is a defensive minded coach and has quite a few White on defense. They have Shonne Greene but he is slow and has dealt with injuries.

Like Don mentioned, the Hillis curse would help him anywhere he goes. Not to mention that pretty much every team has backs that have had to deal with injuries, so the Hillis curse has a good chance of working. There are just a few teams he should probably avoid - Jaguars, Maurice Jones-Drew is one of the top backs and has been fairly consistent. Vikings-Peterson looks like he will be coming back and remain the feature back and I don't trust the coach. Tampa Bay-Blount has proven to be a great runner (not great runningBACK, just runner), he has had an injury this year but I wouldn't trust the coach to do anything with Hillis, despite that backup being Kregg Lumpkin. Baltimore-they have Ray Rice and he has been consistent and they have Ricky Williams doing well in a backup role. Steelers- no explanation needed. The Titans, although Chris Johnson has underperformed, they aren't going to give up on him with that contract, he has done just enough to get by.

Technically, any team would be a good team for Hillis to wind up on. All of the star backs have quite a few years of wear and tear, and not everyone is going to wind up like Emmit Smith or LT with the amount of years played. I haven't seen any superstar backs come out in recent years. I see Rex Burkhead being the next, he just has to stop trying to add so much bulk in the weight room, it seems like his big play ability declined a little bit after he added weight last offseason. Maybe Trent Richarson will wind up one as well, hard to tell with the gaping holes he gets at Alabama.

So Denver, Dolphins, Bills, Detroit, Kansas City would be ideal places for him

My top four are Green Bay, Denver and Indianapolis and New England. The Pats would be incredible if they got rid of Law firm and split carries between Hillis and Woodhead. Not gonna happen but man would it be nice if somehow it happened.

If the Colts are smart, they go after him.

from rotoworld:

Browns GM Tom Heckert indicated Thursday that the future of Peyton Hillis with Browns remains up in air.

"Obviously a disappointment," Heckert said. "We know he can play. He’s done it. He did it last year. That’s not the issue. We just have to decide which direction we want to go." Hillis is an unrestricted free agent next season but is just now getting over multiple injuries and not likely to warrant much value on the open market. He's just Rotoworld's 32nd-ranked running back in Week 15.

on another note, Hardesty went back to being limited so hopefully he won't get many snaps. it is baffling how they use an inferior played in Chris O. on 3rd downs now, the only way it even makes sense is that they were trying to give Hillis as many breathers as possible with him being banged up. we need the beast back!

from cleveland.com (Plains Dealer) an article/video.

Peyton Hillis may be able to play his way back into Cleveland Browns' good graces, says Mary Kay Cabot (SBTV)

Cleveland, Ohio - Welcome to today's edition of Starting Blocks TV, hosted by the ailing Branson "Float Like a Butterfly" Wright and Bill Lubinger. The Browns will try to bounce back from Sunday's loss to the Arizona Cardinals when they play against Baltimore on Saturday. Which team do you think will win, and by how many points? That's the question in today's Starting Blocks poll.Today's guest on SBTV is Plain Dealer Browns reporter Mary Kay Cabot, who has thoughts on that and other topics. She says she thinks the Browns will make some adjustments to help contain Ravens running back Ray Rice. She also talks about whether Peyton Hillis needs to play well these last two games to convince the Browns to sign him for 2012; and she picks the player she believes is the Browns' defensive MVP this season.

read the comments, interesting (and mostly positive comments from Browns fans, many of who hope he'll be back. i for one would love for him to go to a team with a real coach and a real offensive line... then again, if he can come back as an undisputed starter and Browns improve their o-line, although that would mean he still plays in the toughest division to run against, with perennial good defenses in Steelers and Ravens.

excerpts from Shurmur's presser today:

Question:
What do you know about Hillis as a player and how do you feel about him as a member of this team?

Shurmur:
"I think he's a very explosive runner. He's a guy that unfortunately has had to fight back from injury this year. I thought he played very well last week and he's battled through the weeks previous when he's been back. I've got an appreciation for what he brings to the game, for sure. Like any player, when you see him play well in a game or two you just in some ways wish he had been healthy the whole year. But, there's no regrets, no doubts about how things were handled and you just keep moving forward."

Question:
When you said Hillis "has played well" -- what did you mean?

Shurmur:
I think he ran the ball hard and he ran the ball effectively within the scheme that we were trying to execute. I thought our line blocked well and so it was coordinated from that standpoint. He did some things in the passing game that were good and he was engaged. I think he played like an NFL runner does."
