Don't forget the additional 15 snaps that he'll be required to line up at fullback and slam into the line for the benefit of Ogbonnaya.

And, even on Peyton's carries, I don't see that Browns line opening many holes against Houston.
I think Hillis trying to estbalish himself as a halfback is over, its just making people realize that he is an top level, starting halfback. I have rewatched all of the games and can't find any plays where he is run blocking for other backs. Its either been single back sets or Marecic blocking who looks similar with his 48 jersey. Hes only had a few carries at fullback (short yardage) and a few snaps at fullback in passing situations, mostly splitback sets.

FOR **** SAKES...

Peyton Hillis aggravated his hamstring injury again in Friday's practice.

Hillis pulled up limp on a run and promptly threw the ball and his helmet in frustration before walking off the field with a trainer. At this point, we have to believe he's going to end up missing another game. Expect Chris Ogbonnaya to get the starting nod against the Texans. We will have Hillis' status update in a few hours.

i think i'm done with nfl for the season... by far the most frustrating one since i've started watching football, the sole reason why is because there were higher expectations than ever, what with Hillis being an established star, Woodhead on a verge of a breakout, Tebow, Decker, Cooper, Nelson, Amendola, Welker and many others looking very promising... some of them played well enough but all in all our hopes got dashed.

This illustrates why it is important to take time to completely heal before coming back. I hope Peyton Hillis will wait till he is good to go before he tries it again.

I hear you man. You wait so many decades for a white runningback to have a 1,000 yard season and then the following year nothing. Gerhart rots on the bench except for a few token carries and Woodhead has quickly become the invisible man.

Well Hillis is probably a roider, most NFL players are, he might be suffering some of the typical side effects which are muscle tears. So this could go on for a while.

I'm sorry, but this has turned into a WWF type of joke. Two weeks in a row now, Hillis is fine and said to be "in for a heavy workload," only to be declared seriously injured again the next day. At this point, I wouldn't be surprised if he suddenly ends up on I/R (a day after both he and the coach declare him "fine" and ready to start).

Hillis has already lost much of his fan base, judging by the comments on Cleveland forums. They will really have a field day with this one, continuing to call him "Phyllis," and saying he "is on his period again," etc. How can anyone argue with the "injury prone" label that they have affixed to him? When you combine the "strep throat" with this continuing hamstring melodrama, can we really dispute the "soft" label as well?

I really want to support this guy, but it's just laughable now. Thanks to the "unusual" nature of this story (unprecedented "strep throat" reason for missing a game, multiple agents, unhelpful comments from him and his agent, a VERY questionable and constantly reaggravated injury, the probably made up failure to appear at a kid's event), Hillis' name is rapidly becoming a source of ridicule in the media. It is extremely doubtful if he can ever redeem his reputation, or sign any kind of lucrative contract.

Unless, of course, he moves to blocking fullback.

Im not sure if roids are the problem. Its the same hamstring he injured landing upside down to make a catch. He hasn't helped it by not warming up properly, (didn't see him on the bike), he pushes himself beyond his limit by pulling trucks in the offseason (not recommended if you have a history of hamstring injuries) and he doesn't let it heal for long enough. I said earlier he should have just waited until today to be his first day of practice, and should have had a light, limited practice. He did the same thing as he did last week expecting a different result. Look at other guys that inured their hamstrings in the league, they sit out multiple weeks with no practices, they don't keep trying to come back in the middle of the week. I wasn't even sure if it was a wise move to even try to come back for this game.

Bigunreal, im not sure if you are familiar with hamstring injuries, but its not uncommon for them to feel fine, only to re-injure them soon after, especially for a person that has a high pain tolerance like Peyton. He probably can't tell when he is pushing himself to the limit and the adrenalin is flowing. Instead of feeling bad for the guy and realize this is unfortunate circumstance you continue to insist that this is some wwf scripted event. Yeah I'm sure Peyton Hillis threw his helmet on the ground for added effect in his part of the act and that he wants all of this to happen, so he gets a small contract and/or winds up as a fullback. The coaches don't know how far along he is with his injury. If he says he can play then the coaches take it for what it is. He should become more in tune with his body and know when something is wrong. Its probably getting around 50 percent better each time he comes back and he tries to tough it out only to go back to square 1. Hamstrings can go from feeling a little tight to where you can't walk without a bunch of pain.

The multiple agents is because the best they can offer him is 3 million guaranteed.Thats what a 30 year old McGahee got for Denver. Chris Gocong got 8 million guaranteed. Amhad Bradshaw 9 million guaranteed. Hes getting new agents because the old ones aren't getting the job done.

So your not going to support him, nice to know where your loyalty stands, not with White players in the NFL but with the insane idea that the NFL is rigged like the WWF. A charity even that his manager/brother or cousin failed to inform him about (He missed a radio show that night as well) and a "questionable" injury, one that he had problems with in college, the one he injured landing upside down putting him on IR for Denver, the one he missed many practices for in preseason as well as a preseason game. Yeah that sounds questionable to me. Get over yourself. The guy is injured plain and simple, and this is scenario that the caste system was hoping for.

The only thing I fault Hillis for is trying to come back early, but then there are fans like you (and dwfs) that are questioning his injury and ability to play giving him the soft label and keep saying "matt forte is earning his new contract" so it pushes him to come back sooner than possible, so even then I can't put the blame on him with all the media stuff bombarding him every single day. If he could play he would be out there doing the same thing Forte is doing. Btw dwfs have extremely short memories so all he would have to do is come back the last part of the season, run all over some tough teams like the Steelers and most would probably forget. The last feature back for more than 1 season was John Riggins, he sat out the entire 1980 season over a contract dispute, and dealt with some injuries in his career, but he played until he was 36. Its way too early to write Hillis and his career off over one bad season, especially when many believe in the Madden Curse.

We just need to stop crying over this, did we expect for the position to change over one season? The NFL dumps dozens and dozens of black runningbacks into the league every year, most fade out due to injury or lack of talent, of course some will stick when you put that many in the league every year, for every Adrian Peterson there are a dozen guys that are gone or way down the depth chart or underperforming (Knowshon Moreno anyone?). We are reduced to putting our hopes on a handful of guys of course there will be some disappointment. Hillis is still young and has a chance. Gerhart still has a chance, he is still young. We have Burkhead and Line coming in as well. All is not lost. THIS season isn't even over with. Give Hillis 4 games healthy and he can get some of his reputation back. He is not going to fade out like the Nigerian Nightmare after one hit. White positions like DT didn't turn black after one season, it was a gradual process, we have some great defensive players and more to come, as well as receivers and backs, more will get scholarships, it will be a gradual change. It will probably never look like it once did but it will be better than it was in the 90's.

First, this is a different hamstring than the one Hillis injured before. Second, I seriously doubt that he has, or had a hamstring injury. As I've noted several times, I was watching the game, and he never was attended to by anyone on the sideline, and never rode the bike (a prerequisite for hamstring tweaks). He was also seen by many to be begging a coach to let him play, and the coach ignored him.

From the "strep throat" incident until now, nothing about what is going on with Hillis has seemed legitimate. For instance, even some non-conspiratorial types on the internet took the time to examine the web site of the organization Hillis supposedly stood up on Halloween, and found no mention anywhere about an event with Hillis. I don't think it's much of a stretch to say that he was framed for the whole thing, especially when you factor in the absurd way LeCharles Bentley lashed out at him publicly and claimed he'd been offered 10 million dollars. Ex-players simply don't do that to each other, but remember that Bob Golic jumped all over him for missing a game with strep throat.

I understand hamstring injuries are iffy and can take a while to heal. However, even if Hillis had a hamstring injury (which I don't accept is a given), it was clearly, unequivocally a very, very minor one. Otherwise, he would have been given some kind of treatment on the sidelines, and would never have been sent back into the game later to block. Fantasy football owners have become accustomed to following the progress of their players who are dealing with hamstring issues. Never have I seen any injury, let alone any hamstring injury, with so much conflicting, ever changing information. As I said, at this point, I fully expect the team to shut him down for the season. Who knows, maybe that's what Hillis wants.

No one roots harder for these white skill position players than I do. But I don't see how anyone can not be disappointed at what's transpired with Hillis this season. When I criticize Hillis, it's only because I'm assuming, for the sake of argument, that this entire drama is at least loosely based on reality. If he indeed sat out a game because he had strep throat, and is still not ready to play in a game nearly a month after what had to have been a very minor hamstring strain, then I can't really disagree with those calling him soft. If we're not being told the real story, then it's just another conspiracy.

Note- just read that two reliable msm "journalists," one of them Peter King, report that "several veterans" on the Browns are "fed up with Hillis" and his inability to heal and play and his "obsession with his contract." He's now expected to miss at least two more games.

Curiously, Rotoworld, in their first update, reports that Hillis was seen with his RIGHT hamstring heavily wrapped after practice. In a later blurb, Rotoworld refers to his LEFT hamstring as being at issue. These kinds of sloppy mistakes are common in your typical cover story.

I just cannot accept the incredible "coincidence" that the first white RB in 25 years to rush for 1000 yards turns out to be either a stupid, arrogant, soft jerk or the victim of the worst luck imaginable. Isn't all this just a bit too convenient? Whether you believe we're being told the truth or not, there is no denying that Hillis has been destroyed by all this. His reputation is now set, with fellow players, jock sniffing journalists and DWFs alike viewing him in an extremely unfavorable light.

IF there was a conspiracy to destroy Hillis, could it be working out any better?

you are the king of conspiracies!! Hamstring injuries pop up all of the time, I have had several guys that I follow in fantasy football that were in and out all year with them and the status was always changing. You are just focussed on this one because it's a guy you like and really want out there (as do we all). But it's not that unusual except its a White guy so there is so much more attention placed on it.

Here in Detroit RB Jahvid Best is perpetually injured, now out with a concussion that healed weaks ago but that they are taking there time with and you never know when he's going to play. The guy is always injured. Before him there was a Kevin Jones, always injured. But at no time was there any doubt that as soon as they got healthy they would be back in the starting position. No questions asked, regardless of what the replacement guy did. So the constant injury status is about the same as with Hillis with one big exception, the blacks guys are always assured of a return to the starting spot if healthy, the one White guy is not.

If you would read further into these "stories" you would see that most of his teammates don't have a problem with him. They are frustrated by the constant covering of him and the drama that the media has created. They had an encouraging meeting with him the other Wednesday telling him to just ignore the reports, he just has to put his head down and play.

as far as not getting treatment on the sidelines, Hillis wants to play, if he had gotten treatment on the sidelines that would have reduced all of his chances of being able to come back in the game. He begged to come back in and the coach didn't let him because he knew that adrenalin was flowing and it could have been more serious, it was only when McCoy was getting killed that he let them go out there and pass block.

So you think Hillis is lying about his injury? What would he have to gain by doing this? You do know if you are prone to hamstring injuries, you are prone to them in both legs, it doesn't matter. I just figured it was the same one because that makes you even more prone to injuring the same leg. What exactly is your theory? That Hillis can play, he is just choosing not to, going along with the caste script, and some unknown person is giving him secret money to keep the storyline going?

and please stop referring to this as a minor injury, you don't know Hillis and his body or how much punishment and pain he has put it through, so you have no right to judge. The guy has had some serious injuries, back injury that required surgery (back problems don't go away) and broken ribs last year. If he could play he would play.

I would add that as someone who follows the NFL closely and monitors fantasy football sites, Hillis is getting nowhere near the negative treatment that is being claimed by bigunreal. Every source has said that he will be the starter when he is healthy. Just about all of them acknowledge that Hardesty is a bum. Who cares what some DWFs on Browns forums say? The White-haters are on every forum year-round.

The hamstring injury is very unfortunate. Hillis likely aggravated it twice by trying to come back too quickly, not because he's "soft." If someone thinks every single NFL game (and sporting event) is carefully scripted and rehearsed, and that every bad thing that happens to every White player is based on secret orders and is also scripted, then why follow sports at all? You come across not only as a conspiracy clown but also as an incessant whiner.

And if you play fantasy football and follow this site at all, you'll know that the last few seasons there has been an epidemic of blacks getting injured. Some have hamstring injuries that seemingly take forever to heal (think of Malcom Floyd last year as one out of many), and then there's Lee Evans, who's been sidelined since Week 2 with an ankle sprain that never gets better. Is this part of a league-ordered, carefully scripted, secret mandate to keep a significant number of black players off the field?

I've certainly never said black players aren't injury prone. The reality is that white players can't afford the "injury prone" label even when they're not. EVERY injury to a white player can result in him losing his job or, if he's not a starter, losing his roster spot. Whether it's fair or not, Hillis is now unquestionably seen by almost everyone outside of this forum as "injury prone" and "soft" by a good portion of them.

Just saw Kornheiser and Wilbon on "PTI" wish Hillis "Happy Trails." They reserve that for people who are retiring, aren't playing any more. That's a very curious thing to do to someone who is clearly still an active player. Btw, Kornheiser stated that Hillis' "teammates don't like him."

The only reason Hillis has any chance to play RB any more this season is because the other backs on the Browns are horrific. If any one of these derelicts lucks into a long TD run, or has a fluke 100 yard game, he will be the new starter. Period. If Hillis has had any good fortune at all this season, it's in the complete lack of real competition he has in the backfield.

If this was only about the hamstring injury, even I wouldn't be looking for a conspiracy. The fact is this entire drama started on the unbelievable "strep throat" note and has only become more ridiculous along the way. As exemplified by the take on "PTI," the media is treating this far differently than the contract situations with Matt Forte, Desean Jackson and others, and the hamstring issues of Andre Johnson or Hakeem Nicks. The underlying theme is that the Hillis situation is a huge mess, with a wink and a nod to him being jinxed by the Madden cover. Taken as a whole, I find it all hard to accept at face value.

And how about this for a hit piece:

Has any injured player, or any player in a contract dispute with his team, been treated like this before?

Bigunreal, so what exactly do you think is going on? Is it a conspiracy against him or is Hillis pulling crap because he wants more money in his new contract? From that article it looks as if most of the bruthas on the team have turned their backs on him but that's to be expected for a guy whose the only white starting running back in the league.

I don't pretend to know what's going on here. All I can do is assess the information I've been given, and based on that, I find the entire Hillis drama, from the "strep throat" incident on, difficult to believe.

I have no idea what Hillis is thinking, but any way you look at it, this has been a public relations disaster. Unfortunately, I think Hillis is just a not very bright country boy who is in over his head, in terms of how to react to the circustances he finds himself in. Certainly, his moronic agent hasn't been much help, and evidently he relies upon his brother for advice as well, which probably isn't a wise thing to do.

Call me absurd, but if the powers that be wanted Hillis' chances to continue being a starting RB in the NFL to be destroyed, they couldn't have done a better job.

It's no different than the way you're treating him, accusing him of being soft, of not playing hurt, of being a stupid country bumpkin.

So which is it, is the negative opinion you and some of the Browns players seem to have of Hillis derived from good cause, or is everyone involved carefully following a script that was issued from somewhere in the bowels of the league headquarters?

Andre Johnson is going to miss his 5th game for a hamstring injury, and most likely miss a 6th and won't come back until after their bye week which will have given him almost 2 months to recover. That is how you recover from a hamstring injury.

A "minor" hamstring injury is what Arian Foster had, he missed most of preseason, almost 3 games I think, and then the first game of the regular season, came back and averaged 3.3 ypc and had to sit out the next week because of the hamstring issue. He still hasn't been like his 2010 form, averaging 3.4 or more ypc twice in 6 games, while Ben Tate has averaged 5 ypc for the season.

The only thing that happened with Hillis is bad luck. It was a given that every negative thing that happened would be magnified. Nothing to do with a conspiracy. Missing significant time was the best case scenario for the caste system so they can play up the injury prone label. All of this stuff labeling him soft and how he needs to come back and claiming its because of the contract that he wasn't playing probably fueled him to come back sooner than he should have, causing him to miss even more time. No conspiracy, just the caste system at work.

I was afraid of something like this after he took antibiotics for strep throat. Some may remember my post talking about the recent connection in antibiotics and these type of injuries. Does anybody know if the hamstring is the same one as he injured in Denver?

I was a pretty darn good tailback in high school, and I tweaked my hamstring in the second game of my senior year. I was useless until the seventh game. I kept trying to play, and it just kept hurting.
IF his hamstring is really hurt I know from personal experience how frustrating, and nagging that is. You feel fine until you get out there and try to go hard. So Im giving him the benefit of the doubt, because I dont think for one second the man is "soft", or "stupid".
That being said, I do think something smells real
fishy about this.....

I'll ask you again: Why did the Grand Conspirators allow Hillis to have a big year in 2010?

I read the Yahoo article posted by bigunreal, and I don't find it to be a hit piece. Assuming even half of what's said is true, there's some evidence that Hillis has not handled some things well in this whole saga. Plus, when was the last time a bunch of veterans pulled a White skill player aside and told him to just play and get the job done because they need him? This is unprecedented. It seems that Hillis has alienated some teammates, but there's an effort to reach out and bring him back into the fold. I don't disagree with some of the points made by Thomas, Fujita, and Cribbs.Looks like he's out this Sunday, but given the rest of the bums on that roster, he should heal-up in a couple of weeks, come back and finish strong. All is not lost with 8 more games to go.
