Paul Hornung and Other Recent NFL Deaths

Paul Hornung, an NFL great, passed away today.
Other recent passings which I didn't see mentioned were Baltimore Colts linebacker Mike Curtis and Colts wide receiver Jimmy Orr.
Mike Curtis was a tremendous, all star linebacker, and Orr averaged 19.8 yds/reception for his career!

I will always remember Mike Curtis as the guy that clotheslined a fan running out on the field.

I remember years ago when Hornung stated on the air Notre Dame had to better pursue the African American football player during recruiting as that was the reason why Notre Dame was getting their doors blown in big matchups during the post Holtz era.

This site had a good laugh at him and his idiotic statement as Notre Dame hadn't played many non Blacks at the speed positions in a good generation. This utterance caused him to get layed off/ fired from the Notre Dame radio network and basically disappear from the public view. In recent years he had dimentia which was probably football related, his death with this years deaths of Davis and "Herbie" leaves few Packers left from the original teams that won 5 championships, including 2 Superbowls.

I think only Kramer is left from the original core of players that won all 5 championships.

The one thing I remember about Paul Hornung besides being a great football player is his reputation as a playboy and gambler. I personally think if it didn't interfere with his football go for it. However, it did get him suspended for one year.
I can't believe that Jimmy Orr and Mike Curtis has passed. They were two of my favorite players on the Colts team. Raymond Berry, Johnny Unitas, Tom Matte, Alex Hawkins who played at South Carolina and, Steve Stonebreaker what a name for a football player. Ordell Braase, I hope that's the right spelling, B.R. Smith, Don Shinnick. I loved the way they played football back in the '60s

Hornung meant “black” players. Those low IQ ghetto thugs that are coal black and like to break the law. Not the nice blacks from big city Catholic schools that ND has always stockpiled.

it’s always funny when northern football guys complain about not enough black guys because they those teams throw in a white tight end or line backer. They want those SEC black players from the swamp or wherever.

The "Franchise" died 3 days ago. I remember when he was elected to the hall of fame this site had spirited debate on why he was elected over more deserving candidates as a Seniors nominee. I remember suggesting he didn't have better credentials than Ken Willard and Willard would need to solve world hunger and peace and possibly Covid too to get elected to the hall of fame.

Interestingly enough Floyd Little is considered the "worst" modern era running back in the hall of fame and has a lower rating than many retired players that have no realistic shot at making the hall. I pay no attention to HoF inductions these days, I think the Warren Sapp or the Howie Long ones did me in on that train wreck. As a Packers fan inductions into their HoF at least bring back good memories of good football players and not loud mouths on the PC side of things.

What the chumps of today don't realize is how much they owe to Hornung's generation of players, the chumps are literally eating the seed corn.
