I agree with you both. Canada will be one angry bunch, with the whole nation on their back. It will be quite an atmosphere at GM Place, but I'm hoping the US will not get ambushed the way Russia did. If they can withstand the initial onslaught, it will get interesting.

The US goalie Ryan Miller will need to have the game of his life.

But before we get carried away, Finland is no easy task. The US has a tough semi-final game ahead tomorrow.

Has anyone noticed how many Anglos are on this Canadian team? Anglo Pride! I'm glad they beat the Russians. Duncan Keith, Corey Perry, Brad Richards, Rick Nash, Joe Thornton & Shea Weber are beasts.

Is the French-Canadian community in an uproar? To me, it seems like French-Canadians are over-represented in the NHL. They make up a good portion of all-time greats, but quite a few of the more recent players (drafted high too) don't seem like anything special. Could Anglo hockey truly be on the rise?

The lack of French-Canadians on the team was the first thing I noticed when the team was announced. They normally have a lock on the goalies but Luongo has been given the nod over Brodeur and Marc-Andre Fleury.

As I type this the USA is giving Finland a thumping - 6-0 early 2nd period. (For once it is on network TV). Mike Milbury called the Russians "Eurotrash" for their lack of effort against Canada on Wednesday but the Finns have been even worse. This is one of the most pathetic performances ever by a professional team.

Canada plays Slovakia tonight to see who plays the US in Sunday's final. Edited by: Matra1

The final is set, rematch of USA-Canada from last Sunday. This is the best possible outcome, and judging from today's semis, I think we're in for a historic game. I'm rooting for Team USA all the way. However, the good thing about these types of match-ups is that if Canada wins, I will not be devastated.

Rooting for the USA 100% but I agree with you foobar75 that either outcome is a win-win for hockey in North America.

The bust for Russian team will be good for them. Russia played poorly, uninspired, sneered at the North American style and expected USA or Canada to roll over for them. See Larionov's analysis below, from Sport-Express in Moscow.

Disappointing that Slovakian team couldn't have sneaked into the finals, with Chara and Handzus on the roster. But Team Canada is just too strong.

USA-Canada could be one for the ages

Mostly I'm ready for Monday Night when the NHL starts up again!

**********************
Larionov says:

There aren't many people in Russian hockey as respected and as well-versed in both the NHL and the KHL as Igor "The Professor" Larionov, a Hall of Famer and the pivot of the famed Soviet KLM line.

Even before the Olympics started, Larionov had warned against praising the Russian star-studded team too much and underestimating the Canadians' approach, both emotional and systematic.

After the Quarterfinal Catastrophe, I ran into Igor at the Russia House, where he was doing a TV interview, and we chatted a bit on the reasons behind the loss.

"The trouble is, we have stopped to appraise the situation realistically," Larionov said. "We have stopped to time ourselves by the NHL clock. We are trying to prove to ourselves that hockey [in North America] is bad and primitive, that we don't need what they are doing here. But look what the Canadians did to us. In almost every game situation, there was tremendous support for each other throughout the ice. In every zone there were people who were ready to fight and help out a teammate. They had superstars who play 20-25 minutes in their [NHL] teams but were ready to accept a small role for the common good and to do some unpleasant work for it, too.

"What Russia lacked was the heart. And you can't even blame [Ovechkin] or any particular players. One person has a bad day - so what? There are 20 on the team. In the Stanley Cup playoffs it often happens that in the beginning, the stars step back in the shadows and it's up to [players like the Detroit Red Wings'] [Kirk] Maltby and [Kris] Draper and [Darren] McCarty to carry the team. And then, when their energy is running out, the skill and experience take over. The mistake of our coaches was their poor familiarity with North American hockey. The Canadians had Sidney Crosby, who toiled everywhere, in all three zones, which is why he is the pride of Canada. We have Ovechkin, but not much beyond him."

315 pm is face-off, I can't wait! I won't predict a outcome but predict a very physical game that could very well be decided by who executes best on the power play, offensively and defensively or Ryan Miller could stand on his head again and steal another one for the Americans.

Tremendous game! U.S. ties it with less than half a minute left in regulation, but Sidney Crosby wins it in overtime for Canada. It'll be a shame if the NHL opts out of the '14 Games in Russia.

What a game. One of the best Hockey Games that I have ever watched! What a joy it is to watch two elite teams of European Warriors fighting to the death for the pride of their country.

Congrats to Canada. Sydney Crosby is as good a hockey player as you will ever see! He may not be Wayne Gretzky, but he is one hell of a player!

I'm very proud of Team USA, and yet, happy for Canada. It's their game, it was on their soil, and it's a fitting end to a very fun Olympics. I hope NHL'ers are allowed to play going forward because hockey is one of the premier events of the games since they started playing in 1998. You can't go back to non-NHL players now.

I'm also hoping for the Team USA nucleus to stick together and give it another go in 4 years.Edited by: foobar75

As usual, there is an insanely clear contrast between the personalities and moral character of white sportmen and black sports"men."Â￾ Today's game featured no random gyrating, no taunting, no mental mistakes, no dim-witted thug references, no ebonics during interviews, no asinine celebrations after routine plays"¦.very refreshing.

Engrossing games like this one should make the talking head MSM think twice before belittling the NHL. When America won gold in basketball in China 2 years ago, not even the DWFs / MSM really cared all that much"¦.whereas the Canada-USA game had to be the most watched hockey game in north America in 30 years. Congrats to all!

Agreed Thrashen, and here's a superb quote from US Captain Jamie Langenbrunner after the game which pretty much amplifies your assessment:

"This game showed all the good there is in hockey. The heart and determination everybody plays with. The battle level, the character of the athletes. It's a pretty special sport. It was a fun game to be in. Wish I could be on the other end of it."

These are clearly not the thoughts that come to mind when one things of the thug-infested garbage that has become the NFL and the NBA. It's too bad the moronic DWFs in America cannot step away from their negro worship for a moment and realize this exact same thing.

I hope hockey can now gain some momentum from all this going forward. BTW, every time I look at the those half-empty NBA arenas, it brings a smile to my face.Edited by: foobar75

Besides the Miracle on Ice and my Dallas Stars winning the Stanley Cup about a decade ago, yesterday's Gold Medal game was the most riveting and entertaining hockey game I have ever watched. Every shift and every crash into the boards was magnified and Olympic style hockey seems better to me than the typical NHL hockey match with all the obstruction in the neutral zone, I saw alot more skating yesterday.

This was an amazing game. Sorry to have to out myself with you guys lol, but I was hoping for Canada. I thought the U.S was going to win it after they got the momentum by tying it up to send it to OT. Not surprisingly, it was the greatest offensive player on the ice and arguably the best NHL player, Sidney Crosby, who won it for Canada. Ovechkin is the best goal scorer, but personally I think Sid the Kid is the best all round hockey player in the world. The Americans were very gracious in defeat- in such a heartbreaking close loss.

That didn't stop 1130 am in NYC (a business talk station) from airing an Iginla sound bite during its 8:30am ET non-business news update yesterday.

Well Iginla was the one who got the assist, so that might be why- it was a good pass by him. Crosby just fired the puck quickly at Miller. Miller stated in an interview afterward that Crosby shot it much quicker than he expected. Crosby stated that he thought it went five hole, but wasn't positive. I think it was Crosby's instincts that told him to fire the puck so quickly. It worked out well for Canada.
