Perhaps weenieworld has heard about our concern over Jordy Nelson only getting the one catch against the Panthers. They posted today that Nelson was on the field for more snaps than Driver or Jones, Nelson had 33, Driver 29.

I'm very surprised by that. Guess I kept turning on the Green Bay game at the wrong times, as Nelson was often not on the field when I was watching.

Houston at New Orleans will be the top game to watch in Week 3. The Texans have a clear path to winning their division with Peyton Manning out, but beating the Saints on the road would be huge for their confidence.

Theres a small yahoo story about the Giants game last night ( that I did not see ) circulating. Apparently as the Rams were driving down the field in a no-huddle situation, 2 Giant players fell to the ground faking injuries. Apparently the usually non-critical ESPN crew brought this up.
Faking injuries to get your team rest is nothing new but it seems to be happening more and more though I had only heard of it happening exclusively in the college game.
Is there any correlation between the rise in sumo players and this type of behavior? One has to wonder.

It's hard to watch an NFL game without seeing several black players acting like they are seriously hurt, only to be back in the game a short time later. They may not be "faking it" many times, but rather illustrating the black propensity for drama and attention. No one dares call them out on this regular practice because occasionally one is seriously hurt, so this behavior is indulged for fear of lacking "sensitivity," or worse being called a "racist."

You're right, when examining the situation in which he was placed, there’s no way whatsoever to discredit Cam Newton thus far…

1) He’s playing on an abysmal team with the worst record in the NFL last season.

2) He didn’t have the benefit of OTA’s (and other rookie workouts) during the offseason. Thus, he had approximately 4-5 weeks of actual practice with his team to prepare for the season.

3) Aside from WR Steve Smith and an array of dynamic white TE’s (Greg Olson, Jeremy Shockey, and Gary Barnidge) his receiving corps is dreadful.

4) Other than tackle Jordan Gross, his sumo-infested offensive line is one of the least talented in the NFL.

Even if these ridiculous obstacles weren’t placed in his way and he was the starting quarterback on the best team in the NFL this season…Newton’s performance has been fantastic through two games.

With any luck, Newton will return to “1st Round Black Quarterback” form soon enough. If his success continues (even if the team is losing), the hysteria will be more unbearable than ever before. I wish Newton the very worst.

Some of your talking-points contain inaccuracies..

3) Gary Barnidge is on IR. http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/players/playerpage/522814/gary-barnidge

Barnidge ends up on IR: The Panthers placed TE Gary Barnidge (ankle) on injured reserve Tuesday.
(Updated 08/30/2011)

4) I'm sure Ryan Kalil (who recently received a monster contract extension, thus putting him in the spotlight) and Geoff Hangartner enjoy being called sumos!

The simple reality is that "space eaters" like Dan Williams of Arizona and Pickett, Raji and Howard Green of Green Bay are obsolete in what has become a passing league. How would Carolina play against the Bears' d-line or Suh's Detroit Lions? Or Haloti Ngata who actually possesses strength? The Steelers' should also be able to game-plan against Newton (remember that they crushed Tampa last season). And, there's Dallas with DeMarcus Ware, Jay Ratliff and Sean Lee. The New York Giants still have some pieces on defense.

Carolina could defeat Jacksonville this week, but that wouldn't prove much.

Yeah, I saw that synchronized flopping routine and thought it was disgusting. Of course the criticism of the announcers calling them out for faking hurt had to be iced over by claiming it was a veteran move to lie about being injured.

And I was thinking the same thing about the rise of the sumo and the flop of the afflete being directly related.

It's hard to prove whether or not someone is hurt, but the NFL could at least change the rules so that if someone leaves due to injury then the player has to remain out of the game for the remainder of the entire current drive(or a predetermined chunk of game clock time). It's one thing if an afflete wants to be a lying, out of shape, classless AA-recipient, but its another all together to actively cheat.

Regarding Newton:

So far in the NFL just about all QBs are putting up inflated numbers. I attribute this to not having a full offseason for defenses playing so poorly: missed tackles, blown coverages, not having a full defense installed yet (ie more vanilla play calling). It seems teams are selling out to stop the run, content with seeing if Newton can beat them throwing the ball. Like others here have said, it works well between the 20s but in the red zone teams seem to be able to stop the Panthers from putting up points. Also, the rule changes have turned football into a more finesse game, more or less basketball on grass. Once the season gets into October I have a feeling he will slow down and have more bad games as teams implement their full defensive schemes. The funny thing is Newton is playing like a white QB yet somehow everyone thinks he is "revolutionizing" the position.

Very good idea Pie. I believe in college an injured player only has to sit out one play. That should be changed as well

No one thought Peyton Hillis would ever get the opportunity to be a starting tailback, yet it happened. I think Adrian Peterson will get injured at some point, and if not then Gerhart will have the chance to sign with another team when his rookie contract runs out in a couple years. He has continually improved since some of his black "teammates" successfully intimidated him last summer and looked really good yesterday. With one black RB after another getting injured or underachieving expectations as blacks at all positions in the NFL continue to rather rapidly decline, I hope Toby will get a shot at some point.

Did anyone else wonder why the Rams punted on fourth down with about 1:45 to play, down by 12??? They punted and the Giants effortlessly ran out the clock in the victory formation. Made no sense to me, at least go for it, try to score a TD and then have an onsides kick. . .

What do you mean, what happened ?

Matt Ryan had a nice 4th quarter for Atlanta and Kafka looked really good! The announcers were saying there is some talk of him overtaking Young for the second string spot. He'll probably develop into a great NFL QB, but will we ever get a chance to see him lead the team? As long as Saint Vick is there, I doubt it.

I'm glad to hear that Toby Gerhart is making the most of his opportunities this season! Hopefully he'll get a chance to carry the load for some team before too long. He has too much talent to be used as little as he is.

Check out the Gerhart thread in the Vikings forum, which has the background on it. Basically, some defensive players were taunting him and hitting him as hard as they could during initial training camp drills, which Toby wasn't expecting or prepared for.

Agreed Leonardfan, but what is so sickening is the constant slobbering over this guy. I was listening to the game on the radio and the announcer said his incompletions and interceptions were the most exciting mistakes he'd ever seen! What does that mean?

He went on to say that he put the mistakes Cam made after overthrowing his receivers by 6 feet, on the offensive coordinator!

One local TV station said after Carloina lost their first game, that the game was all about Cam!

Cam actually has played good at times, but don't blame his mistakes on someone else.

After Newton would throw an INT, he would go straight to the bench, put a towel over his head, hide and pout like a big spoiled punk! He needs to grow up and start acting like a man, if he ever wants the respect of a professional NFL QB.

He's 16th in QB rating, being sacked 8 times, 4th most, 2 TD passes and 4 INT's, while completing 62% of his passes and 800 plus yds. But as leonardfan pointed out most teams are selling out to stop the run as it looked like GB did on Sunday, did anyone see how open Carolinas' receivers were, my 8 year old daughter could have completed those passes, while most of his passes were checkdowns. When 85% of the offensive plays are passing schemes, its not so hard to throw for 800 yds!

He's getting all this attention with all the baggage he carried in coming out of Auburn, some community college, or Florida or wherever he's from?

Has anyone checked out Rookie, Andy Dalton, whose ranked 8th in QB rating?

This situation reminds me of how white people slobbered over Barack Obama when he was running for President, and what have we gotten with his election? Nothing. So far that's what Carolina has gotten with Cam Newton, nothing in the win column. 0-2.

Waiting, Waiting, Watching and Watching for a clip of Jordy Nelson's 84 yard TD yesterday that clinched the game against the next great black hope's team....nothing, nada all day. Seriously, how does the second longest pass play of the season, for a TD, clinching a game not make ESPN's "top ten" for week #2....pathetic.

Yeah was waiting for that one too. It would be reality overload to see highlights of Welker's 99-yarder, Decker's return and Jordy's game-breaking big play.

The only rule change I remember for this year is that ko's have been returned to the 35. Leonardfan, are you referring to rule changes from past years?

We can make up all the excuses we want, but Newton's performance so far has been remarkable, any way you cut it. Well over 400 yards passing in his first two games? When his college high was only 335? Hmm. That's a whole lot of checkdowns....

The one thing that is holding back the lovefest for Newton is Brady throwing for even more yards the first two games. However, we can't argue with the fact that Newton's first two games blow away anything any rookie QB has ever done statistically. If we acknowledge these games are entirely legitimate, we have to give this devil his due.

I fully expected Newton to be the biggest black quarterback bust in history. He is also the most arrogant, unlikeable of all the overrated, beloved black QBs. He will be unsufferable if he becomes a successful player. Even if the Panthers had an all white receiving corps and a white RB, I'd still have to root against them because of their obnoxious black QB.

Newton's hype was so undeserved, and he certainly seemed destined for bust status ala Jamarcus. Thus, his incomprehensible fast start has me baffled and, as usual, questioning everything about this league.

What is the main story of the 2012 Draft right now?.. I would say it's Andrew Luck and Alshon Jeffery. I wouldn't want Tampa or Carolina to be super-terrible, because they would take Jeffery in a heartbeat.

As it stands now, it looks like a team like Seattle or KC (or maybe JAX) will suck so bad and take him. That thought is not as bothersome. Miami could find itself with a "very good pick" as well...

Hype

Carolina Speed's response to the Newton's performance is much more on target. Passing yards don't translate to great performances and obviously not wins.

Carolina has committed to exclusively run their offense through Newton so his opportunities to make plays will be significant.

Actual results:

Passing Attempts are among top 4 quarterbacks
Passer rating is decent (middle of the pack) but certainly not exceptional.
Interceptions and sacks are among top 4 quarterbacks.
Completion percentage is middle of the pack.

As a rookie, his performance is definitely solid but far from exceptional or remarkable. As we have seen in these cases, the sports media will highlight mediocrity as genius.

As his defenses solidify and improve I would imagine that he will have an extremely steep learning curve. 2 games don't make a season, let alone a career. Should he continue on his current pace with a positive win/ loss record, he should earn appropriate credit.

If he does continue to put up solid stats and his team does win he will be given the keys to the kingdom. Look at what "Jesus" Vick was portrayed as and what he really was(middle of the pack qb). The liberal media wants at least one star black qb.

Yeah, Don your probably right about a nieve Gerhart entering training camp back in 2010. Hopefully that training camp knocked the DWF'dome and nievete out of him. Hopefully after his rookie contract is up he goes else where. Question, how could a 2nd round pick not expect a rude welcome from the supa affelets? If I were Toby a year ago, dip the helmet to make a point or use a push off away and laugh at the sumos.

Anyone who doesn't believe that blacks headhunt white players, especially white skill position players, needs to read this article. Obviously Romo is a quarterback but the main point still applies, black defensive players have a free for all against white players.

[h=2]DeAngelo Hall says it outright — Tony Romo’s ribs will be a target[/h] By Doug Farrar
deangelo_hall_says_it_outright_tony_romos_ribs_will_be_a_target.jpg

That the Washington Redskins will see the fractured rib of Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo(notes) as a target shouldn't be a surprise to anyone who understands the hidden game of football, and the fact that players with injuries are vulnerable on the field. However, what you don't usually see is a player who's completely unaware of the reality that the NFL is looking out for this kind of stuff.
That's where Redskins cornerback DeAngelo Hall(notes) comes in. When asked on Wednesday about the rib injury and punctured lung Romo suffered last Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers, Hall came right flat out and said it — if Romo plays Monday night, he will be in the bull's-eye.
"Absolutely. I want to get a chance to put my helmet on whatever's hurt," Hall said. "Romo's ribs—I'm going to be asking for some corner blitzes. If I know [Cowboys running back] Felix Jones'(notes) shoulder's hurt, I'm not going to cut him. I'm definitely going to try to hit him up high, so that's just part of it.
"If you know something's wrong with an opponent, you're going to try to target in on that. We're going to try to definitely get as many hats on that team as possible."
Um, yeah. All well and good to the realities of the game as we said — most players will admit off the record that opponents with obvious vulnerabilities will be attacked like injured deer in a pride of lions. Difference is, the lions aren't generally goofy enough to telegraph their intentions to reporters. And with the NFL more conscious than ever when it comes to injurious hits with malice aforethought, Hall has most likely put himself at an additional disadvantage in that any pop he puts on Romo will be watched with extreme prejudice.
When asked about his own approach, Redskins outside linebacker Brian Orakpo(notes) was less specific. "Obviously you can think of it like that," said Orakpo. "If somebody gets injured you want to go after the injury. But we're going to just play our game. We're going to try to get Romo down when we can. We're not going to just target the ribs and forget about trying to get the ball out or forget about trying to get him down and just hit his ribs. Nah, we're going to go the best we can to get him down and get off the field."
Also on Wednesday, Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett said that he think Romo is "doing fine, "He got knocked around a little bit on Sunday, but he's getting his rehab and hopefully he'll be ready to play for this ballgame. We'll take it day to day, [over] the next few days."
According to a report from ESPN's Ed Werder, if Romo does play against the Redskins, he will wear a protective vest made by Unequal Technologies of Kennett Square, Penn. The Cowboys contacted the company this week to inquire about protective technology for Romo and tight end Jason Witten(notes), who is dealing with bruised ribs. The Redskins knocked Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick(notes) out of an early game in the 2010 season with a rib cartilage injury, and Vick has been wearing equipment from the company ever since.
When asked if Romo should go ahead and put a sticker on the rib that's hurt so everyone would know, Hall said that it wouldn't be necessary.
"He ain't got to. I already know where it is. We'll be all right. We find it. I'll find it."
And the NFL will find you, Mr. Hall. You can count on that.

I agree with bigunreal and Thrashen's analysis. Newton's first two performances have been remarkable. Carolina almost beat the Superbowl defending champs. I was EXPECTING two or three picks against the Packers top notch big play/ turnover generating defense, but was in NO WAY expecting 400 plus yards yet again. What has been lost in this is that Dalton's performance has been almost as impressive (arguably it is just as good in fact, despite much fewer passing yards, due to fewer mistakes) so far. Newton's QB rating looks great for a rookie in his first two games (it is lower down the list this year due to remarkable QB ratings league wide over the first two weeks), but to almost beat the defending champs while throwing for 400+ yards in his second game is NO DOUBT VERY impressive. Newton has also gotten NO help from the running game so far.

We'll have to wait and see how his career shapes up. I was one of the folks here who thought Newton had more talent than Clausen when he was drafted from watching both their college careers. I'm not hoping Newton completely fails b/c it could cause a frustration backlash amongst some blacks in the league causing an adverse effect with the caste system. I do hope that Newton does not play like the third best QB in the league as Vick did last year behind Rodgers and Brady over his career b/c it could cause an unfair EXTREME rise in black QBs in the league I'm afraid due to the giddiness over black QBs with scouts and the media.

In today's world I'd be o.k with up to 20% of NFL QBs being black if whites continue to get more opportunities year by year at other positions, but I worry this could cause the NFL to become close to half black at QB by the end of this decade, which would be nauseating.
