He had a convoy of blockers.
No, he actually got a nice hole and he burst right through it. Its on NFL.com if you want to watch. He had a convoy of blockers.
Another small crowd at Paul Brown Stadium saw the Bengals (9-6) secure only their third winning record in the last 21 years and stay in the running for the final AFC wild card.
...
Dalton joined Peyton Manning (26), Charlie Conerly (22) and Dan Marino (20) as the only NFL rookies to throw 20 touchdowns.
Off the top of my head, I would guess 1978 or 1979.
Kudos to Andy Dalton for showing America what a successful rookie quarterback looks like. I doubt the city of Cincinnati would trade their winning quarterback for a "stat accumulator" like Newton.
Edit: And yet, immediately after typing that, I see the Fox Sports crawl on the bottom of the screen praising Newton for tallying some "passing yardage" record. Somebody refresh my memory, I forgot when the NFL changed the rules of football, converting yardage into points.
Peyton did it in a different era. It has become easier to throw.
Hillis now has 557 yards rushing and raised his ypc to around 3.7. Maybe he can get close to 700 yards for the season and raise his ypc closer to 4.
as for Tebow "finally throwing it", he had 62 attempts the past two games against New England and Chicago.
Newton's had a very good rookie season. Will he be able to sustain it? This was the year Josh Freeman was supposed to develop into a full-blown superstar and look how that's turned out. Dalton, Locker and Ponder look like the real deal, it's been another outstanding season for White QBs in general, a mere one or two good black QBs after 12 years of really pushing them is still a big-time defeat for the Caste System.
This needs to be referred to as "the lockout season." Almost every QB had inflated numbers from Week 1 to 3.
As Carolina's season has progressed, they've wisely chosen to use their running backs more. Thus, Newton's numbers are down, but the TEAM is now better...
They are a better team with Newton as a GAME MANAGER rather than as The Man! Carolina had him in the role of "The Man" or "revolutionizer" for 8-10 games, and it DIDN'T work!
I was going to say that it had to have happened around the time of James season in 85'. Hillis looks like he is rounding into the form he had last season. Every big game he has down the stretch will add dollars to his next contract. On November 4 1984, Craig James went over 100 against Denver. On Monday night, November 5, John Riggins gained 100 against Atlanta. Not on the same day, but on the same weekend.
I checked Pro Football Reference.
Shannon Sharpe did the post game highlights for the Browns/Ravens game. Not once did he mention the name Peyton Hillis. When talking about the Browns all he talked about was Seneca Wallace. Sharpe also did the Vikings/Redskins post game highlights. Not once was Toby Gerhart mentioned. Sharpe was slobbering all over Joe Webb. At the end of their show, before signing off Sharpe gave special recognition to Tarvaris Jackson and Cam Newton for their outstanding play this season. Phil Simms brought up Andrew Luck in the closing 10 seconds of the show, in an attempt to make a comment about him. Immediately Sharpe leaned over in front of Phil and started shouting MERRY CHRISTMAS!! multiple times so his comments about Luck could not be heard, and that was how the show ended. How pathetic.
(I wonder if these analysts get to pick which games they are going to do the post game analysis for. What a coincidence Sharpe got both of those games.)
