Welker has 12 catches for 134 as the Pats are still very much alive for the division crown with the Jets losing today.

He's incredibly close to 1,000 yards for the season...Edited by: Thrashen

Welker has 1,002 yards, congrats! 2 years in a row, the first white WR since McCaffery to have consecutive 1,000 yard seasons!

Congratulations to Wes. He now has 96 catches as well and could very well top his NFL leading 112 catches from last year. Maybe Welker will top 1,200 yards this season?

It's often painful to watch the Steelers offense.

Well, at least he had time to throw for one TD. Don't know why but I want the Steelers to win this game. I think it's the sympathy factor for Big Ben more than anything else.

Unbelievably bad news. That means his season is over. He would have had a monster game today. Now it'll be very difficult for him to be the main runner next year. Most conversation next summer will be whether he should be an H-back or a receiving fullback who gets some carries.Edited by: Don Wassall

While this was not what we wanted to hear, let us hope and pray for a speedy recovery. Depending on how bad it is, he could be back in a 2 weeks because nothing is torn or broken, just inflamed and painful.

Also, while it was great to see him in the spotlight, it will take several more players like him at the same time for the stereotype to change. I'm hoping for the best on this one.Edited by: Electric Slide

Congrats to Wes Welker, he's having an incredible season.

Seriously too bad about Hillis though. If his season is done, that is some of the worst news we could get!

Seriously, my weekend is effectively ruined.

No doubt there are alot of Caste proponents who are breathing a collective sigh of relief and maybe even some joy at the news that Hillis may miss the rest of the season. All we can do is hope for the best. This is why it is ridiculous to have to base all hopes on one single player. Football is too violent of a game and too unpredictable. The NFL should by now, given all of the white talent at RB that has been shafted over the last several years, have more than one white back besides Hillis who would be in a position to be productive. However that is exactly why there is a caste system. One guy who they can't hold down is much less of a risk than having a bunch of guys. We see the exact opposite for blacks at that historically weak position for them at QB. When one fails, the Caste system has another in place to attempt to pick up the pieces. Now that Gerrard and Russell are looking more like guys who may be flops as far as Caste hopes, they may have Seneca Wallace to hype in their place. Michael Vick will also undoubtedly fall into a position next season where he may have another chance. Between the recycles of black QB's like Vick, Culpepper, the Borderline Jason Campbell and the one Constant of Donovan McNabb, they will always have a few players in the league to base their Caste hopes on. White players in caste positions are just not afforded these opportunities throughout the league. To me, that is the caste system in a nutshell. Blacks get chance after chance, while whites have to play like superstars to get a sniff.

Hopefully Hillis opened enough eyes in his short time playing RB, that fans will want to see what he can do next year. That is pretty much the only hope right now. I wouldn't count on it though. Contrast the gushing coverage that the Fat, out of shape Le'Ron McClain with his mediocre 3.9 YPC recieved during the early portion of this season next to the media blackout that Hillis and his 5.0 YPC has recieved over this stretch when Denver needed him the most. I'm not sure I made my point clear. What I'm trying to say, like others, is that something like this doesn't completely change everything for the better or worse.

It would be awesome if Hillis averaged over 100 yds for the rest of the season. That would be a nice small step towards a fairer system, and an inspiration to more white athletes. I'm not sure though that this would completely change everyone's mind.

My main point was that it would take more time, and having multiple white running backs carrying the ball every week would be a better situation than having one guy doing it, then he gets injured.

While I'm disappointed that this happened to Hillis, it doesn't make me any less hopeful or pessimistic about the future. Me being on the hopeful side, I look forward to seeing more guys like Hillis, Hester, and Leonard starting and doing well. By the time coaches are fair about who plays running back, the names and faces may be completely different, and I look forward to that time. In the meantime I hope Hillis recovers fast and plays well when he gets back. That's all I'm saying

Jim Leonhard might be the best blitzing safety in all of football. I wish the Ravens had some white offensive players, they would be my favorite team. Their defense could definitely be considered very white friendly.

1. I caught part of the Jag's game (looking for Matt Jones). Dan Dierdorf starts talking about Jones' speed or lack thereof! Dierdorf is the worst - a complete Jackasste clown!

2. Jim Leonard is playing very well. I hjavemn't seen much of him but he's really good. Now if Tommy Z could play beside him ...

3. I'm sick of lame announcers proclaiming "He's a football player." Aren't all of these guys football players? I know things are dumbed down, but this is getting a little tedious!

I would just love for once if someone would have the guts to question one of these Caste clowns on air. Something along the line of "Where do you get that Matt Jones doesn't have any speed. The whole reason for him being drafted and converted to WR was because of his speed." I would love to see someone really challenge them to back up their claims. I know from experience that when you call these media clown types in emails that it overloads their brains and they can't take it. Some of them for ESPN get really childish in their replies. Surely there is one announcer who has a big enough sack to question these jerks?

I think Hillis will be back for the playoffs if Denver makes it. Let's keep our fingers crossed that Cutler can carry the team to the post-season with Tatum Bell playing far worse than Hillis. Hillis was going to be judged most on his play in the post-season anyway, players especiall white ones always are.

If Hillis can lead the Broncos to the Superbowl and maybe rush for 100 yards there people will take notice. The talk that any back can suceed in Denver's system will only go so far before some DWFs start to tune in their ears to the BS.

White WRs are making inroads already so it will happen with white RBs too. Youtube, this site and the information age will cause any fan with a bit of a brain to wonder why Hillis is doing so much better than Tatum Bell when Hillis returns for the playoffs.

Maybe people will wake up to the idea that Leonard played solid considering he was in an impossible circumstance last season and that all the hate on him was unwarrented. If a white RB is put in a position to suceed they can do it.

But it is going to take more than just one white RB getting playing time for us to break through. One is a small piece of evidence for our cause, three is a trend!

I was watching the Broncos game and saw Hillis get injured. I almost had an inevitable feeling about this; truly, at times there almost seems to be a supernatural force at work here. So often, when that rare white skill position player actually gets a fair chance to play, a serious injury seems to strike him down. This was the ONLY thing, at this point, that could have stopped Hillis. He was looking dominant out on the field.

We all know what will happen now. Hillis will never get another chance to be the starting RB for Denver. I'm sorry, but that's just reality. If Tatum Bell or some other pedestrian back does well for the remainder of this season, they'll stay ahead of Hillis on the depth chart when he returns. If they don't play well, Denver will look for another back via the draft or free agency next year. Perhaps they'll annoint the immortal Ryan Torrain the starter in the offseason. Hillis will go back to fullback, where he'll, at best, become a short yardage specialist.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again- white players simply have to be tougher than anyone else in order to keep their jobs. If you saw the play Hillis was injured on, it was the result of a superhuman effort to catch a short pass over a defender. No black in the league would have tried to do that, let alone actually make the catch. It's the same mentality that results in whites fighting so hard for an extra yard, or to make a tackle, injuring themselves in the process. I know, they would be criticized if they didn't make the effort, but what Hillis did was way beyond the call of duty, and no one would have chewed him out if he hadn't done it.

I know I'm being typically pessimistic, but I just can't see how any of you can look at the situation otherwise. Hillis was doing so well, and had the starting RB job to himself. I certainly hope I'm wrong, and that he gets a chance to carry the ball regularly again. However, watching this nonsense for decades tells me that he will be sent back to his "rightful" position on the field.

Again I think it depends on the playoff picture this year and how/ if Hillis plays and does well. He was foolish for trying that hard to make that much of a circus catch with a defender coming right at him. I actually didn't see the play, but it doesn't appear to be a dirty hit from the talk of it.

If you haven't seen the play, how do you know he was foolish for him to try to make the catch or that it was or wasn't a bad hit?

And you know, trying to make those types of plays is what separates white players from most of the rest of the NFL. At least he doesn't have alligator arms and takes a fall without the ball just to avoid a hit.

He wouldve taken the hit anyway. It wasnt a hard hit that injured him, it was more of a freak accident. Great catch though, he is a seriously good receiver, which can be seen in this video.

I think he may open some eyes with that catching ability of his. How often do you see over the shoulder catches by RBs :)

That was a great play on 3rd down, it's Jay Culter who made a questionable desicion underthrowing the ball with two guys covering Hillis. I'm not putting the blame for peyton injury on cutler of course, that was a freak accident.
