I didn't realize Carl Nassib was signed for as much as he was -- 3 yrs. $25 million with $17 million guaranteed. That's the kind of contract that indicates the Raiders want to give him ample playing time. Would be cool to see Maxx Crosby and Nassib both racking up lots of sacks this season. One obstacle that may limit Nassib's playing time is Clelin Ferrell, who was a surprise pick last year as the fourth overall player taken, but who wasn't nearly as effective as Crosby, who was taken in the fourth round.
Nassib, Ferrell and Crosby may rotate at end so that all three get close to starter's snaps. Then there's the addition of Nick Kwiatkoski, who will be a three down linebacker, and Jeff Heath, who has a good shot at starting. So the Raiders could have four really good White starters on defense, along with David Carr, Hunter Renfro, and Jason Witten (who may or may not get many snaps this season), along with Kolton Miller and Richie Incognito on the o-line. Potentially as many as nine overachievers starting on the Raiders, who had as few as six Whites total on their roster under the Black Jack Del Rio regime, and that includes the kicker and long snapper.
And the one-time Ghana Giants currently have three White starters projected on defense (LBs Blake Martinez, Ryan Connelly, Kyler Fackrell, with David Mayo listed as a backup), and potentially five or six White starters on offense counting George Aston, who is the only fullback on the roster (and who could be an effective power runner but that'll never happen).
Teams maneuver within the narrowly prescribed demographic boundaries of the Caste System's unofficial rules, and the Giants and Raiders will be cancelled out and more by teams moving the other direction along with the upcoming Whites Need Not Apply draft, but it's still nice to see two long-time ultra-Caste organizations move in the direction they have. The Raiders in particular had so many great White players during their glory years before Al Davis went senile. And the Giants were semi-daring for a while in the '90s, drafting WR Joe Jurevicious in the second round, RB Sean Bennett in the fourth round and CB Jason Sehorn in the second round.
