Saints Signed WR Chad Hansen (4th Round / 2017) ...even a message board wondering why he hadn't been able to stick on an NFL team with his good size & adequate speed/ 1st Team All PAC 12.

https://saintswire.usatoday.com/201...ansen-kayvon-webster-david-simmons-nfl-draft/

...and as suspected hybrid LB Chase Hansen..... suffered a back injury during his final game at Utah and has been slowly recovering from surgery in the months since — it appears he isn’t quite ready to suit up for the Saints, so they will give him more time to work back without giving up a roster spot.

What a shame ...before the injury he was sure to be selected in the NFL Draft. Before bulking up to 23O at Utah...He was a 220lb Safety i had hoped could become the next John Lynch.

Great signing of Chad Hansen by the Saints. They definitely need receiver help. Michael Thomas is legit, but question marks remain, in my mind, about the rest of the crew from last year. Speaking of the Saints here are shots from day 2 of mini-amp of Dylan Collie and Tristan Blewett.

Jake Kumerow was his own worst enemy last year, suffering a serious shoulder injury somersaulting into the endzone after a long TD catch during a preseason game. Hadn't heard much of him recently but Aaron Rodgers is still talking him up, which is a good sign:

Aaron Rodgers raves about Packers WR Jake Kumerow: 'I'm a big fan of him'

By Zach Kruse

After connecting with him for a pair of touchdowns during a red-zone period at Tuesday’s minicamp practice, Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers raved about the way receiver Jake Kumerow continues to go about his business during the offseason workout program.

A big fan of Kumerow last summer, Rodgers explained why No. 16 continues to be a favorite target of his to start this summer.

The chemistry between the two just continues to build.

“The key is being reliable, and earning my trust,” Rodgers said. “I never feel like there’s been a real difficult recipe or plan. It’s, you know what you’re doing, and you’re in the right spot at the right time, and you don’t make repeat mental mistakes He is an extremely intelligent guy who is in the right place at the right time. He makes contested catches, he makes the plays that are there and he does the little things.”

Kumerow was a standout during training camp last August and made big play after big play during the preseason, but an unfortunate shoulder injury forced him onto IR to start the regular season. He came back in December and caught eight passes for 103 yards and a score over the final five games.

Kumerow continues to make plays in a new offense. And he’s earning style points, too.

Rodgers explained how earlier in the offseason workout program, Kumerow made a subtle but tough catch in the back of the endzone by effortlessly getting two feet down in bounds.

“Just little things like that he does, I think almost innately, I think almost separates him from a guy you might not trust as much because you know the guy is going to do it right, he’ll always be in the right spot, he knows what he’s doing all the time and what the other guys are doing,” Rodgers said. “And when he gets a chance to make plays, he makes plays. And he does it in a super classy, understated way. Obviously, I’m a big fan of him. I don’t need to keep going on that.”

For the second straight summer, Kumerow has positioned himself to make a serious run at a 53-man roster spot. Although others, such as Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Trevor Davis, have stepped up and impressed this spring, the position battle remains fluid, and Kumerow clearly has the trust and chemistry with Rodgers to not only win a roster spot, but carve out a legitimate role in Matt LaFleur’s offense.

Could be a great year for Wide outs. Hopefully teams looking to replicate Tayson Hill will see more of our guys getting their hands on the ball.

Well, prissy Sean Payton has let it be known that the vision for rugby standout, Tristan Blewett, is special teams.

Last year I bought the Lindy's yearbook because it had a better lay out with the draft picks and individual blurbs on each player on a roster. So I was all set to buy one this year but thumbed through it for a bit to get a feel. After browsing the NFL draft section written by Barry Wilner I said to myself forget it.

Wilner misrepresented the majority of white defensive players constantly referring to them as not fast which contradicts the facts and workout numbers.

I said the hell with it and a bought a Hockey News NHL draft issue with future superstar Jack Hughes on the cover instead. And I saved myself two bucks.

I can do without an NFL yearbook. I have a schedule and members here at caste keep everyone caught up on things so why give money to rat ass caste writers. I prefer the printed word on paper but sometimes that doesn't trump the annoyance of caste slanted yearbooks. I get SI anyway although they have far less info and details than the yearbooks.

Doesn't mean I am done buying yearbooks. I like to pick up the Athlon and Street and Smith's College Basketball issues and Street and Smith's baseball issue. For college football I sometimes buy the Phil Steele yearbook but cripes you have to fork over half a house to buy it. It is informative but is it worth it especially if one is tight on money like I am these days?

Would love to see Biegel get on the field early and often during downs and not just special teams.

Vince Biegel hopes to expand his role after full offseason with Saints

By Luke Johnson, NOLA.com | The Times-Picayune

These are exciting times for Vince Biegel.

He and his wife, Sarah, welcomed their first child into the world in April. He went through his first full offseason with the New Orleans Saints, finally giving him some time to digest the playbook. And his role might be expanding with the team, too.

In addition to the special teams position he filled last season, the first two days of Saints minicamp featured Biegel working at Sam linebacker in base defensive packages and as an edge defender in sub packages.

It has been a welcome challenge for the third-year player out of Wisconsin.

“Being utilized like that is awesome,” Biegel said. “It’s great for my development, and I’m excited for the different roles they have me doing this year to contribute.”

The Green Bay Packers selected Biegel in the fourth round of the 2017 draft, but released him on roster cutdown day last season after an offseason regime change in the front office. He signed a practice squad deal with the Saints and spent the final 14 weeks of the regular season on the active roster as a core special-teamer.

Only four Saints played more than Biegel’s 241 special teams snaps in 2018, but he saw the field for just two defensive snaps.

He hopes to continue shouldering a hefty special teams load while also contributing more to the team as a versatile defensive player who can swing positions as needed.
Work days are busy for Biegel. When the Saints split into individual position groups, Biegel has found himself rotating between the linebacker and defensive line groups. When the Saints have gone into full team drills this minicamp, Biegel often lined up directly across from an offensive tackle. He stays on the field for special teams work, as well.

“If one guy can do a couple different jobs, it makes him more valuable,” said Saints defensive line coach Ryan Nielsen. “We can start moving him around, different fronts, more things we can do on defense.”

The qualifier that must come at this point is that it is early and Biegel has done none of this while wearing pads yet, but Nielsen said the early returns have been positive.

Nielsen likes the way Biegel sets the edge, and he likes the length of his 6-foot-3 frame and the toughness Biegel brings.

He called back to Biegel’s time at Wisconsin, where he recorded 14 sacks in his last three years, as part of the reason the Saints wanted to get a look at him on the edge.

“He’s got some rush ability to him,” Nielsen said. “There’s something there. He’s not in pads, but we’ll continue this through camp, and you will see the progression after this break when we get back.”

Taking a small break this afternoon I made my way over to NFL.com and saw this MVP candidate list. Not surprisingly, 5 1/2 of the nine candidates are white QB's, the 1/2 being Mahomes. The upsider candidates are super-longshots as DL (not going to happen) and two RB's (unlikely). The writeups on the 5 cracka QB's are very nice though.

Christian McCaffrey is my sleeper pick for MVP. He is poised for a huge season.
For a running back to win an MVP title he needs to set a near record totals and his team would have to be on a magical run similar to 15' for the Panthers. Also with Newton being the quarterback you also would have vote splitting so it could weaken both players against an Aaron Rodgers type who has never had a realistic vote splitting teammate.

I guess after the Blues winning at 250 to 1 at their lowest point in the NHL season, McCaffrey winning the MVP is a shorter odds pick than that. I haven't seen the odds posted but I guess he would be at something like 50 to 1.

PS, I looked up the odds on the voting and the shortest priced running backs are Elliot and Barkley and both are 50 to 1. The site I saw ended the odds posting with St. Louis Blues type odds on Watt and Donald as defensive players have only won the award twice in the SB era and the last time was in the 1986 season when Lawrence Taylor won the award.

So either McCaffrey is part of the field or about 100 to 1. He could be a decent bet at those odds, especially if Newton is a shell of his prime in 15, so the vote splitting would be non existent.

I laughed out loud while listening to this fool on his 911 call. Amazing bonehead with his “mixed” tramps.

There seems to be no end to very athletic White tight ends coming into the league and getting opportunities whether or not they were drafted early. Two getting a lot of hype currently are Jacob Hollister (Seattle) and Mark Andrews (Baltimore). Hopefully some DWFs are taking the next step and wondering: If so many 240 to 260 pound Whites are very athletic and mobile and can "take it to the house" as tight ends, why is it that all White WRs, whether small or not, are deemed incapable of playing outside and must automatically be lumped together as slot receivers???

Here's some Mark Andrews highlights from his rookie season. Check out his speed on his long TD catch and run at 2:00. He's reportedly been working out hard and might have a breakout season, except he does have the "blank canvass" throwing to him.

Ravens' Mark Andrews: Stands out during offseason

Andrews made "a ton of plays" during offseason practices, looking bigger, stronger and faster than he was last year, according to Jeff Zrebiec of The Athletic.

That's probably why they got rid of the GM - for signing this moron. Same ole jets.
At one time having a total mess of your personal life was reason enough to cut a player(even a star like him), I don't where things veered off this path but in the NFL it seems like there at least 3 or 4 guys like this on every team, who are literally walking disasters.

This was from last year.....

I can foresee Andrews being a thousand yard receiving TE some day. He was that good in college. However, I don’t think it’ll happen with a quarterback who “has trouble throwing” at times.

Utter MORON!
Yes. It proves that you don't need over a double-digit IQ to be stinking rich. Just be good at a game and have the advantage of skin color #blackprivelege. And this Moron skipped out on a $14 million by not playing last year and lost another million by skipping OTA's this year. In addition to the $$ that the broads stole. Once he's done with football, he'll be broke and back in the hood within five years.
