I thought we should start a thread on some of the players
about to start their season in Nfl Europe. The season
starts in around two weeks.Alot of the games will be
on tv.Here are two running backs who might have a chance
to make some noise & probably will be starters.Patrick
Wischnewski is a very explosive running back who is a
real game breaker. He led the league, can't recall which
one,in scoring.He had over 20 touchdowns.He is an
outstanding running back ready to make his move for a
possible nfl chance soon. The other guy is Martin Latka.
Latka will remind most of Mike Alstott. He is a beast at
253lbs and with similar speed. He has been a outstanding
fullback in nfl europe and now is going to try to
switch to the running back which he has never played. He
is a martial arts whiz, and a part time decathelete!
How is that for being in shape.Martin says that he has
gotten alot more explosive.Good luck to both of these
guys this season.Lets try to add more names of stars and
keep track off how they are doing. Thanks guys.

I hope I will be able to watch a few games when they start. Seems as though my radio to tv ratio has been about 5:1 lately. I'll keep an eye on those guys. Maybe they will both get a shot over here soon.

I just don't understand even now how Luke Staley has
just totally moved on from football.I guess that being
married and having a kid has made him give up his
dream. It is such a shame because he had it all.I really
wish that he would give NFL Europe just one chance to
see if he could get back to where he was.He could take
alot better care of his family if he even made the
minimum salary for a nfl player. It really makes me
angry when guys like him,D.Farmer,Poole,Standeford,
and many others get screwed over.It seems to take the
heart right out of these kids. Some of them should play
in Europe to get their confidence back but I'm sure that
it is not as easy to be invited there as it seems.
Anyways,I will follow the new breed of young guys that
are over there this season & maybe we will find some
new stars like the few mentioned above in another post.

I just wanted to add that NFL Europe starts this weekend.
On the Galaxy you have 2 out of 3 running backs that are
white guys.Both Latka and J.R. Niklos.Should be a fun
team to watch.

Latka played over in Germany. He is from there and has
never been to the US as far as I know.He is a very big
powerful running back.Hopefully he will get a good shot
to make an impression on a nfl team.

The first game of the year for NFL Europe is tommorow
and it is on tv.The Sea Dragons are one team I will be
watching. They have Eric Crouch on the team and a good
running back.

Scott McCready broke the all time record for receiving
yards in nfl europe history. He had 8 catches for 88
yards. He should have had a great career over here but
you know how that goes.I believe that he is 29 so maybe
he can get one more shot at the nfl in the fall.Good
luck to him.

How ironic, after I post the article he has a very nice
game this weekend.JR Niklos had 13 rushes for 73 yards
and 3 catches for 57 yards with a touchdown.Remember,
this guy is 6'2 and 240 with speed. He is a Alstott type.
The Raiders have his rights but the question is will
they let him do more than block. He is capable of putting
up huge numbers if given the chance.Keep an eye on this
guy as nfl europe continues.

The Packers have a QB over there named Scott McBrien. He's a little guy and a southpaw and has been considered more of a threat to run than pass, but he just had a remarkable game. He'd not played well his first couple games, but down 31-0 and his team getting only one first down the first half, his coach put him in.

He threw for 325 yards in the second half and led his team back to within a touchdown before they ran out of time. He had a 40 yard TD run too. He had two interceptions, but one was tipped and the other a desperation heave from his own twenty with seconds on the clock.

Mind you it's not the same level of competition, but playingin one of his first professional games Scott McBrien has now thrown for 300 yards in one half as many times as Michael Vick for afull game has his entire career.

WR Aaron Hosack came off Frankfurt's injury list for today's game and promptly scored both of the team's touchdowns.

Here's yet another example of a white receiver who should be starting in the NFL and would be if not for his pigmentation. Hosack is 6'5" and 210 pounds and made many big plays for the University of Minnesota, in spite of the fact that the Golden Gophers had one of those ubiquitous good-run horrible-throwing blacks at QB. Hosack has great hands and superb leaping abilityand averaged over 18 yards per catch in two years at Minnesota after transferring from a junior college in California. Yet I'm sure the knock on him is lack of speed, lack of big play ability, or some other convenient fiction. Unfortunately he is the property of the Vikings, which makes his chances of ever getting an opportunity in the NFL that much dimmer.

It's great to hear about Hosack having a good game.I
will keep an eye on him for the rest of the season.I
really hope that Scott McCready gets a chance to play
in the nfl again. All he has done is lead the euro
league in receiving just about every year and break
all the receiving records. He is good for 100 yards
receiving every game.He deserves one last shot to make
a nfl club.

Hmm, Don, what impact do you think this will have on the NFL, and more specifically, what effect will it have on whites who are seeking a roster spot on an NFL team?

NFL Europe has helped a few quarterbacks and others get a shot at the NFL, but as far as the artificially engineered non-white positions it has had negligible impact. Sean LaChapelle tore upNFL Europeover a decade ago at WR but was still royally shafted by the NFL. Today it's Scott McCready and others. The beat goes on . . . and on . . . and on.

Keep a eye on former Iowa LB, Grant Steen. Grant was allocated from the New England Patriots to the Galaxy. Like many white LBs he has been overlooked by the NFL, but he has the size and speed to be a great defensive player. I hope he does well enough in Europe to get a decent chance back here. He can only make a great defense even better. Edited by: azguy

Don, that's pretty much what I thought. I don't remember any white guys who went on to great success in the NFL after playing in Europe. I sure hope Eric Crouch can break that mold though.

Does anyone know the exact statisitcs of the racial make-up of NFL
Europe? I assume they are less inclined to the racial caste
system present here in the U.S.

I don't have the stats Alpha Male, but I would guess it's about the same as the NFL, probably no more than 5% difference than here.

keep an eye on WR aaron boone, He is a big mormon kidwith good speed and hands. I think he plays for Berlin and i there leading reciever. He hasn't been given much of an oppertunity in the NFL. Dallas and chicago had signed him but he never got much playing time he is now 25 years old, but he could have a break through season is given the chance.
