Curious to see how Ian Book performs during training camp and preseason action. If any QB out of this past draft resembled Brees it would be Book. Book’s strong suits are in the short - intermediate passing game much like Brees. Book’s athleticism was of course underrated and he could certainly add a dual threat ability. He’s not as dynamic as Hill.

With the spotlight on the Hill/Crab legs QB battle Book will be able to remain out of the spotlight and just focus on learning the offense.

Good point. Book is a very underrated athlete in his own right. Should be in a good position where he's at, no doubt!

If you want to know what the Saints are thinking regarding quarterback, they're paying Taysom Hill 12.1 million this year and Jameis Winston Winston 5.5 million.

Winston's last year as a starter Winston had 30 interceptions! Can you imagine what the liberal media would say if a white quarterback did that? They'd be attacking him non-stop.

Just as Jake Funk may benefit from Cam Akers' season ending injury, Michael Thomas, far and away the Saints' number one receiver, had ankle surgery the other day, the same ankle problem that derailed his 2020 season, and will miss the beginning of the regular season and likely a good portion of it. After Thomas, New Orleans is amazingly weak at WR, so second year TE Adam Trautman, already widely tabbed as breaking out this year following Jared Cook's departure and after not being used much as a rookie, could well be a big-time target hog from either Hill or Winston if he's up to the challenge. The potential is there for Trautman to rapidly become yet another star White TE.

I can't think of a reason for the Saints not add Chris to the roster. The Saints under Sean Payton have not been kind to White wide receivers, however.

My thoughts exactly. Early on in Payton's tenure the team would bring in very capable young White receivers every year only to cut them. After that they didn't even bother for the most part.

Would love to see Chris do well. Even though he was given an opportunity by the Patriots and took full advantage of it, they began to phase him out and use him as a decoy as Belichick continued his fondness for bringing in head cases like Antonio Brown. The Panthers and Jets used him pretty much like a decoy also. Hogan is likely in great shape and it would be a nice story if he contributes to the Saints, as unlikely as that may be.

Mike Hass - the most screwed over White skill position player of this century - That is certainly part of Payton’s caste legacy.

Hogan being able to transition back to football after playing pro lacrosse is a testament to how good he really is. I hope he makes the team. He can certainly be used as a deep threat and complimentary WR.

There may be nothing to this, but it's worth monitoring. Trautman has gotten a lot of good press and has been starting at tight end and now all of a sudden. . . an upsider appears.

The Athletic's Katherine Terrell writes second-year UDFA Juwan Johnson "seems headed for a Jared Cook-type role" at tight end for the Saints.
Adam Trautman has been hyped as a breakout candidate at tight end for the Saints with Cook now in L.A. with the Chargers, but it was Johnson who paced the Saints in receiving in the preseason opener when he registered a pair of catches for 71 yards while playing a handful of snaps with the first-team offense. It was Johnson who was featured on third-down passing plays with the Taysom Hill unit. Johnson is a former college wideout who converted to tight end this summer and has been one of the stars of Saints camp. He's a name to watch over the next couple weeks and into the season.

Hopefully there will be enough targets to go around in New Orleans with Thomas out for the year. WR room is pretty barren even when he was healthy. Still some cause for concern though..

Well if Crab legs wins, hopefully we see plenty of Hill at WR/RB.

Chris Hogan re-signed but don't expect much. Payton took a secret blood oath 20 years ago never to give a White receiver significant playing time.

To pay that kind of money and yet he's not the starting qb is insane. They just don't want white dual threat quarterbacks in this league. They do their best to stash them
away until their best years have gone by. I'm glad Hill got a contract he deserves but he a better qb than Winston. Hill won't throw a million interceptions. He is also a way
better leader on and off the field. I will still root for him as he is a swiss army knife. It's a shame he is not a household name star like he should be!

Saints WR Michael Thomas will miss the rest of the year. Too bad they didn’t make a move for Isabella.

Hill has a big opportunity the second half of the season to prove everyone wrong. If Payton picks Semian to start over Hill than it will be one of the bigger screw jobs in recent memory.

Michael Thomas went from being viewed as the top receiver in the league in '18 and '19, at least as far as production, to an oft-injured whiner who also instigated a fight with a teammate.

Totally perdictable. Like all White super athletes QBs he will be looked at as a non-passer. This despite the fact that in 4 games starting last year he threw for over 200 yards in the 3 games and had the NFLs highest completion percentage. Hill beat the Falcons twice last year and now this year he is suddenly a third stringer when set to the play the Falcons this weekend. Clearly he will never get a shot at QB again - except in an extreme injury case. Yet the media keeps running with the narrative that the coach who continuely relegates Taysom to a backup roll favors Taysom as his little special pet.
