The Cowboys have hired Wade Phillips as their new head coach. Good to see. I probably would of killed myself if they got that black guy from Indy. You guys think this is a good fit?

Would have preferred Dan Reeves or Norv Turner. But Wade is a good fit, Knows how to run the 3-4 defense which Parcells left behind. Wonder if he will be another Jones lackey like Dave Campo with no authority. We will see.

Dallas' problem is Jerry Jones. I have never liked the guy since the day he fired Tom Landry, and I probably never will like him. He got lucky to win titles in the 90s because of the players on the team, but I doubt Dallas ever gets close to the top again while Jones is the owner.

Just watched Wade's initial press conference. Jerry started off by
rolling through Wade's credentials (which I thought were
impressive). But I don't think he was saying them to flatter Wade. It
sounded like Jerry Jones was justifying not hiring a black guy. After
Jerry introduced the "son of bum", Wade also spoke on the process.
He was really emphasizing that he was never told the job was his all
along. Now maybe I'm crazy, but did anyone else get the feeling that
he was apologizing for being white? It seemed that his appreciation
for winning the position was an afterthought. I felt that Jerry and
Wade had to justify the integrity of the process in front of the media.

Which brings me to my next point. PLUS ONE WHITE HEAD COACH IN
THE NFL!!! Good News for us! Let's hope his staff only has a few
tokens.

Wade lost his job in Buffalo due to the infamous Flutie / Johnson QB
controversy. Johnson was the overpaid flash in the pan that was
signed by John Butler. Wade (and the rest of the Bills) knew that
Flutie had the goods and Johnson was a flake. Flutie battled every
game to get the Bills into the playoffs, but Butler insisted that
Johnson (coming off an injury) start against the Titans. Anyway,
Johnson played well, but most of us remember what happened.

In my own mind I like to believe that if Flutie had started that game,
the "Flutie Magic" would have worked for the Bills and not the Titans.

Congratulations to Wade Phillips for becoming the first white head
coach to decrease the population of black head coaches. (is this
true?)

I was always bitter about Flutie's treatment in Buffalo. I was a huge Bills fan until he got screwed over. I was 14-15 at the time but I do remember the Bills having John Holecek, Phil Hansen and Keith Shultz on the defensive side of the ball.

Does anyone know what Wade's view is towards the caste system? Is he another Jack Del Rio, Mike Martz, or somewhere in between? How does he treat white players in general?

I grew up in Dallas, always a big Cowboys fan. whiteCB...that's the same question I was wondering about Wade Phillips. Bobby Carpenter was a starter late last year as a pass rushing outside linebacker, he's a first round pick with loads of athleticism that was overshadowed by AJ Hawk when he was at Ohio State. Hope Wade doesn't change anything. I doubt he could be worse than Parcells as far as the caste system is concerned. He could only be a improvement.

"Nondescript" is the word that comes to mind when I think of Phillips. He'll probably be middle of the pack when it comes to whether his team is all-black or only nearly so. It may be that after four seasons with a strong-minded coach, Jerry Jones wants a head coach he can dominate again, ala Dave Campos.

I'm with Col. Reb, I've always disliked Jones ever since he took over the Cowboys and fired Tom Landry and hired Jimmy Johnson. Jones and Jimmy Johnson are two peas in a pod, both egomaniacs who know from their own college experiences that whites can play football with anyone at any position, but who are both big-time promoters of the domination of football by ghetto affletes. Jones looks like he's had his face reconstructed through plastic surgery or facelifts and Botox. He's a jackass.

Some years ago, I glanced at Jimmy Johnson's book, "Turning the Thing Around." At one point, Johnson remarked that Barry Switzer said that he (Switzer) "couldn't play in today's game." Johnson said that "I could play today." This means that Johnson, unlike Switzer, felt that he could play football as well as blacks.

Switzer, for decades has said publicly that blacks are much more athletic that whites. His teams reflected that belief. Jimmy Johnson's teams looked just like Switzer's.

My heart longs for Landry's Cowboys; they were the teams I grew up on and as a youngster back when they were truly "America's Team" with players like Staubach and Danny White and Charlie Waters. When Jerry Jones took over it closed one very long chapter in L'histoire des Cowboys. I was happy for the team when they were on top in the mid '90s, and I've always liked Troy Aikman, but Jones has destroyed whatever ounce of substance remained on this team.
