NBA 12/13 Season: Teams To Support

The latest NBA season began last night so it's an appropriate time to kickoff a new tread. Based on the Minnesota Timberwolves whitening tread, interest here on Castefootball might be at a recent high. They are far and away the team to support but that doesn't mean they are the only one. I'd like to rank the teams from most "diverse" to the least so we have a simple guide of who to tune into and who to tune out. A few years back, ToughJRiggins had a point system to rank teams based on starters, reserves and bench ornaments. I'm going to steal that idea and rank points as such:
3 points for a White starter (s)
2 points for a White reserve (r)
1 point for a White non-rotation player (b)

Bonuses:
Alpha / team leader / go-to-guy (+3)
All-star / All-star level player (+2)
15+ point scorer or 8+ rebounder or 6+ assister (+1)

I would suggest a corollary: deduct the same points for criminals. Minus three for felony accusation, minus two for misdemeanor conviction, and minus one for a plea bargain. Maybe we can let the misdemeanors roll off after a couple of years - I'm a forgiving guy.

Minus six points if a player could not muster a 780 score (or whatever it is nowadays) on his SATs to qualify for a year of college ball.

Minus eight points though if your team employs Gilbert Arenas.

Minus ten points if your team's star player converted to Judaism.

Minus twenty points if your star white player publicly endorses massive non-white immigration.

Minus fifty points if your team's star player consulted with a rabbi who doesn't speak any English for spiritual advice over international waters before signing his latest max contract.

Truly pathetic, they signed the uterly average Aaron Brooks to take Jimmer's spot as reserve point guard. Jimmer logged less than 1 minute last night. He needs to get outta there Asap.

Phall, I like your idea but every team except for Minnesota would be in the negative points.

Only in America can the College National Player of the Year just a couple of years ago only log 6 seconds on opening night. Get the hell out of Sacramento Jimmer. They clearly drafted you just to have you get splinters in your a**. What a joke. Incredible waste of talent and the Kings are horrible. They lost last year and this year will be no different. This is where I get mad at our white athletes. No matter what the sport is, they just almost always stay a gentleman and they never speak up for themselves. Sometimes you have to raise a little hell to be treated with respect. Every white man should have a little bit of anger in them. Think Jeremy Shockey. He would not put up with that crap.

The Suns also won after losing a heartbreaker on halloween night. Gortat had 16 points and 16 rebounds to go along with Dragic pouring in 15 points and Scola added 14 points. The Phoenix Suns are alot more fun to watch this year.

On a side note, the Lakers look like crap so far. Not that I care. Haha.

I watched the first half of the game. J.J. Barea was making plays left and right. He is going to be valuable to the team. Hope Kevin Love returns with no ill effects from his injury. Jimmer got in the game after no one for the Kings could hit the broad side of a barn. He hit three nice shots, one from outside and two in the lane.

Nice idea Freethinker. However, I think a consideration of quality vs. quantity would benefit this analysis. In other words, I think that there needs to be more points given to legitimate stars .i.e. Kevin Love, Dirk Nowitzki. After all, their impact in terms of the perception of white athleticism in basketball is disproportionately large.

And personally, I'd much rather watch a coal black team featuring a lone, yet clear, white Alpha dog like Dirk Nowitizki than a team with more white pine sitters, even if they do start a couple of three point specialists and secondary role players that go for 5-8 points a game. Obviously, Minnesota, featuring both the Alpha dog, multiple starters and strong bench players is "best of class" at this moment.

I would consider ranking the top ten white basket ball players 10-1 and then assigning that rank as an inverse point value. i.e. if Love is #1 on the list, give a team with Love on it +10 (instead of the +3 he gets as a starter), if Dirk is #2, give a team with Dirk on it +9, etc.

A mere +3 doesn't accurately quantify a guy like Love in terms of impact on perceptions or in terms of making a team watchable from our perspective.

I would also consider, eventually, giving non-player assigned points based on team winning percentage(rounded up). This would only apply to teams that have at least two white starters OR an Alpha. i.e. a 500 team would get +5, a 300 team would get +3, a 680ish team gets +7, etc. After all, let's be honest here, the most watchable teams are winners. I support white athletes the world over but I don't tune in to watch them lose to blacks night in and night out.

The only other stipulation I would make is I would deduct a -2 from any white star in the top ten who is NOT the alpha dog on their team (i.e. Gasol, Ginobili and Nash to the extent any or all of these athletes still fall in the white top 10). Of course the lowest point score they could get would be +3 (after all they are still starters).

Anyway, maybe this system is too complicated. :icon_grin: Of course, the most telling and objective system might be to evaluate teams by percentage of white generated statistics (points, rebounds, steals, assist etc.) weighing each category according to an agreed value, and then assigning the teams value according to that. Timberwolves net output (defensive/offensive) is based on 75% white contribution etc. so they have a 75 point value, etc and then find a way to add wining percentage as a value. Of course, this might require us to have an ESPN level research team.

As far as who they date, their politics, how similar their views and lifestyles are to our own, etc. It's fun to joke about but if we were really to apply this criteria to any of the professional sports that interest us, we wouldn't watch a one. And that enters into an entirely different discussion. Keeping the box scores in your periphery and catching the occasional game, especially if you can multitask (do it on a date, do it while catching up with worthwhile friends), while giving these leagues as little money and evidence of your viewership as possible, is fine in my book. A relaxing distraction. Just get your important work done.

Great points and I did think I needed an extra metric. Would I really rather watch the Cavaliers over a Dirk lead Mavericks? No. So I'll add some "bonus" points. Ranking Top 10 White players is subjective so I'm not going to do that. I was more thinking an additional +3 for the alpha, team leaders (not many unfortunately, Love & Dirk). +2 for allstar caliber player (David Lee, Marc Gasol, Steve Nash). +1 for a guy who produces either 15+ points per or 8+ rebounds per or 7+ assists per.

I plan on modifying the list as the season goes on to keep CFers current.

Maybe my setup is confusing. Gortat is a 4 point player. 3 for being a starter and "+1" for being an elite rebounder.

He's currently averaging a team leading 17.8 pts/gm, shooting 52% and 50% from 3pt range, and 5 assists/gm, despite not starting!

I'm happy about JJ Reddick. I have loved this kid since college but he still should be starting 100% of the time in my opinion.

We had a brief Jimmer siting last night in a rare Kings win. I can't stand Suckramento. Lol. Jimmer had 15 points in 12 minutes of play. He almost led them in scoring despite no one noticing. Get out of Cali as soon as you can Jimmer. Go somewhere that you can play every night. What a disgrace how they have tried to ruin his career. Thank God he is still young.

I hope to see Dirk back to his old ways soon. He is a hall of famer and I really want to see him move as high on the career scoring list as possible. Hope he can remain healthy the rest of the year when he returns.

I want to see the Suns step it up. They have played good outside of the Heat game. I want to see them get on a winning streak. Golden State is alot of fun to watch as well as Toronto.

The Detroit Pistons won their first game of the season tonight after posting eight initial laughingstock defeats. Against all odds, they won at Philadelphia (supposedly a competent squad) by almost twenty points, so I clicked through to the box score to see which affaleet went for 35-1-1 on his special night.

Duke's Kyle Singler was the Pistons' lone variable.

There are absolutely zero true white shooting guards in the NBA, and that's been so for years now. Singler, like Steve Novak and several other important white pourers, do their best to fill their desired role.

Orlando is starting J.J. Redick (we'll see how long that lasts) and he's responding by averaging around 15 points per game so far.

Matt Carroll got traded to the Hornets, making them even Whiter.

I gave B.J. Mullens a +1 as he's leading the Bobcats with 9 rebounds a game thus far.

Singler's first start was a great one. He played 40 minutes and was clearly instrumental in their first win. Unfortunately, he was only starting due to an injured afflete. Hopefully, he can become a starter at some point this season which would be impressive considering he is a rookie.
