I was reading Pro Football Weekly's 2012 edition yesterday and they have Ebner listed as a corner back. This could be a misprint but upon doing a little research he actually did wind up playing corner and safety for Ohio State. This could get interesting. I would love to see Brandon Hardin and Chris Conte get a chance to play some corner with Chicago. At least Seattle is giving Donny Lisowski a 4 year contract to play corner. Now if Weddle and Gregory were moved back to their natural positions I would not hate the NFL so much.

I think Ebner is being groomed to be a WSTD, same as he was at Ohio State. Though Belichick at least acts outside of the box on occasion.

I don't expect any Whites to play CB in the NFL this year, even as backups. The perpetual all-black monopoly at that position is protected even more fanatically than at RB, despite (or maybe because of) the wretched play of so many CBs. Hope I'm wrong. . .

You are probably right. I don't see this guy getting any real time at corner at least for now but its nice to see he is listed as one. Edelman played corner as we all know though I wish he got a chance in the Super Bowl but I do not remember seeing him on the field.

Well, the "limited" white skillset can be used at RB, with the occasional powerback or the versatile guys (like Woodhead and Leonard). But CB requires magical, unmeasurable qualities that ONLY blacks possess, like "loose hips", "wiggle", "closing burst", etc. I think that having a room-brightening smile is also in the fine-print conditions for playing "on the island".

Quite right. There is no position where the mystical magical unquantifiables are valued then at CB. My own opinion is that it is also a combination of two other things. 1) blacks are absolutly oblivious to reality so being burned time after time for TD after TD does not faze them, they still think they are the greatest CB in all of football. This is true for the best at the position and the worst. In a league where the rules have been so screwed up to favor the receiver over the d-back-- having a very thick skin is paramount.

2) its very important for CB's to be nameless souless proles prowling the last line of defense in an offensive game. If ever anyone breaks the pattern and can stick out, like having bright white skin, then they will get ALL of the blame whenever possible. Look how many times the camera pans to the only white guy in the backfield after a long TD, even if he had nothing to do with the play. Coaches CANNOT put a white guy out there, it would be too cruel. At least at safety the white guy is backing someone else and usually not wholly responsible. I have watched for the last few years as Michigans All Amerkwan safety Jordan Kovacs gets blamed for every bad defensive lapse. Even though he's the best guy out there.

Also the refs would be even more merciless on white CB's then they are on black CB's and they treat those guys like sh*t, pass interference is the most falsly called penalty in the game. Even the media guys don't bother to comment much on it because it's so pathetically bad there is nothing much to say.

additionally, blacks' obliviousness to reality is even more evident in the real/non-football world. i've taught them for several years now, and regardless of how much evidence is presented to prove the opposite blacks ALL think they are 1) smart, 2) talented athletes, and 3) good looking. ALL OF THEM BELIEVE THIS. and theres' nothing anyone can do to prove it otherwise. it'd really be quite laughable if it weren't so pathetic.

Whites' attitudes of inferiority and self-loathing are as entrenched as are blacks' of false superiority. I had some hope that the consistently strong performances in recent years by the Whites "allowed" to play in the NFL combined with so many black flops would make a difference among the 20 million or so DWFs who play fantasy football. But after participating in rookie drafts in several ff leagues so far this year, it's obvious very little has changed. Every black is assumed to be a star, while the few Whites who were drafted in the early rounds are always regarded with strong suspicion and drafted later than they should be (at positions other than QB).

Comments after articles are still almost as bad as they were pre-CF. There is an occasional sane, objective voice, but mostly there remains an irrational dislike of White players combined with hero-worshipping of just about any and all blacks, though polls on the popularity of players show that the number of non-brainwashed Whites isn't as high as those that tend to write the hate Whitey comments. But overall truly a successfully Pavlovian conditioned society.

I agree 100%. A white CB will be the Number 1 whipping boy no matter what.

Many years ago (around 1970), I read a quote by an unnamed coach or scout that said low intelligence is an advantage for a CB. Why? He doesn't realize (or it doesn't register) how impossible the job is.

This was before the 1978 rule changes which made pass defense much harder.

Whites would likely have to become at least one-third of CBs, safeties, WRs and RBs to get any respect and be accepted as "legitimate," maybe even half. Even then there would be lots of whining and gnashing of teeth about blacks "being deliberately phased out" because White fans were allegedly fed up with them, similar to the articles several years ago when the NBA began drafting an "alarming" number of European players before that quickly ended.

That's not going to happen anyway, at least not from top-down pressure. The NFL is wildly successful financially with its current template and has no incentive to change other than to pretend to be "getting tough" with the worst of its substantial criminal element.

Ebner has been getting some pretty nice recognition for his play in the pre-season and in camp. he led the Pats in tackles against the Bucs, after he had an interception the week before.

Safety Nate Ebner took advantage of added playing time tonight and did what he’s been doing nearly every day for the last week. He intercepted a pass.

Ebner picked off Nick Foles‘ final attempt of the first half. He was a little too shallow in his zone, but Foles underthrew the ball and Ebner broke to his right and stole it from the reach of wide receiver Jeremy Maclin. It capped off a week in which Ebner picked off a few passes during practice.


“I just try not to think about that,†Ebner said of the run he’s on. “If the ball comes to me, make the play. It’s not too good. It’s not too bad. Just try to stay even, level-headed with it, get better and make the plays when they come to me. That’s really all I’m thinking about.â€

Safety Patrick Chung went down with a shoulder injury in the first half, and the Patriots were already without Tavon Wilson and James Ihedigbo. So, Ebner got his chance to play, perhaps due to his big week of practice.

He said he has developed more confidence because of the string of interception success.


“Yeah, I’d say I’m developing everything, all my skills, everything,†Ebner said. “With more practice, obviously, you get a little better at everything.â€

TAMPA _ It is looking more and more as if Chandler Jones and Dont'a Hightower will not be the only rookies making an impact for the Patriots this season.

Defensive backs Tavon Wilson and Nate Ebner both received extensive work Friday night against Tampa Bay, a development that only reaffirms what has been happening through training camp. The two defensive backs not only look as if they will make the team, they appear to be on their way to earning significant playing time.

Ebner is another of the reasons it is crowded at that position. The sixth-round draft choice out of Ohio State _ he is the guy who walked on the team after playing rugby as a youngster _ has been an even bigger surprise than Wilson.

He came billed as a guy who would concentrate on special teams, which is what he did at Ohio State. He is playing on most of the Pats' special teams. But he has worked more and more at safety and has shown a nose for the ball. He was one of the first guys in against the Bucs.

With the rookies coming on, there does not appear to be enough room for James Ihedigbo, Sergio Brown and Josh Barrett, all of whom were with the Patriots last season. At least one guy in that group, if not two, figures to lose his spot when cuts are made over the next week.
