Usyk and Gassiev are 6'3" and 6' 3 1/2" fighting at 200 lbs. They are what used to be known as heavyweights, and big heavyweights at that, before 6'6" or 6'9", 250 pounders came along, and those big fellows should have their own super heavyweight division.

The Holmes that fought Cooney wasn't really larger than either of these guys. He was 212 but Usyk sweated down from 215 to make 200 and Gassiev probably did the same thing. One problem with a Super Heavyweight division is the new Super Cruiserweight division would further cannibalize the new Heavyweight division. You would just see fat Kirk Johnson types fighting in the new division.

Just watched the replay. Man, what a complete fighter Gassiev is. Subliminal boxing skills for a big man, quick hands, and incredible stamina. A deadly combination for his opponents. His future is bright. What an incredible prize fight between two elite professionals. Not a clitch the whole fight! Kudos to Doritics. He kept coming the whole fight until he was worn down in the last two rounds. Incredible courage. Gassiev has this great combo. When he left hooks to the body or head, while his opponent winces from pain, he immediately whips a vicious uppercut. I can not see anyone beating him at 200 lbs. He resembles Marciano in build, but way more skilled. There is not doubt, he will become an undisputed champ and top 10 or 5 PFP fighter!
Hold on not so fast did you forget what happened last week? Anyway the final will be a donnybrook and should be the greatest Cruiserweight fight ever.

That fight is still a sore point with me. Cooney could have and should have been champ.

Cassius Clay/M. Ali was fighting guys who weighed only in the 180's and losing to them too, namely Henry Cooper and Doug Jones and Alonzo Johnson, but of course getting his usual crooked "wins". He himself would have been a cruiserweight until his sixteenth fight.

I'd rather not see Usyk and Gassiev fight each other.

Is Gassiev a Muslim?
He wears a cross at his weigh-ins, so he's definitely not a Muslim.

I'm not sure what denomination of Christian he is. Most North Ossetians are either Orthodox Christians or follow the ancient pre-Christian religions of Scythia (what the Romans called part of Ukraine and Southern Russia).

Another nice addition to the HW ranks. Another one for the LDBC to fear.

Gassiev is big enough for HW, has P4P power, a granite chin, is still young ( despite looking older). And will be a player in the division for sure

Gassiev won his first fight Thursday KO'ing Micheal Wallish from Germany at the end of the 4th round. He wasn't throwing a lot of punches but when he finally connected it was pretty much a done deal. He is a very powerful puncher. If he tightens up his defense he could make some noise in the HW division.

It's annoying how inactive he is.
Yes. Many of the best white heavyweights are being poorly managed, an example being Hrgovic who looked like the successor to the Klitschkos a few years ago but may be ruined by inactivity by now.

You can't blame the pandemic because the minute he got the okay from various medical health boards Eddie Hearn has secured dates for his fighters. I have heard nobody wants to fight him, but on PBC/ESPN Fury vs Wilder III PPV two cross roads fight happened with fighters of similar stature as Hrgovic fighting each other.

Hearn always lines up fighters for Chisora and Whyte but he can't line anybody to fight Hrgovic?

Great win and great right hand by Gassiev. Balogun beat Trey Lippe by TKO and up until that point I thought maybe Lippe had something special like his dad. Unfortunately, I think I was wrong about that!
