I thought it was a gutsy play for a 40 year old undersized QB with a cracked rib and shoulder problems. Kinda of a stupid play for coach Childress to call in a preseason game. Favre has no history of dirty play and this is nothing. A penalty was called and that's the end of it. Hopefully the guy wasn't seriously injured.

It was the lead story on ESPN's 6:00 Sports Center.

Well, at least it bumped the latest breathless update on the condition of T.O.'s toe.

A stupid call and a little low on the block by Favre. Big deal, it's not like Brett Favre dropped a house on the afflete.

Its just a cut block, happens about 100 times a game. I dont see how its an issue.

Why does everyone hate Favre so much?

Because he's a media whore and a phony. Acknowledging the reality of anti-social and psychopathic black behavior doesn't mean we have to be silent about the character flaws of whites.

I disagree totally. I to was little upset with some of Favre's crap but he is a great quarterback and a great person.

I used to like him until I saw how he treated his OL. I'm not even talking about the Strahan incident as much as the Clifton incident. That was beyond shameless.

I don't think his behavior is either anti-social or "psychopathic", just because he wants to move around and play for different teams after playing in one spot for about 50 years doesn't put him in the Pacman Jones catagory.

Jaxvid,

I wasn't comparing Farve to the likes of Pacman Jones, or even to run-of-the-mill obnoxious black athletes. I'm saying he has severe character flaws, and this makes him an un-admirable person in my eyes. I'm also saying that there is a tendency here to excuse white mis-behavior by pointing to the much worse behavior of blacks.

All this drama was caused by the way the Packers treated a Hall of Fame legendary QB who had just come off one of his greatest seasons and they let him go for a young unprobven QB. He wanted to retire a Packer and he was not allowed that well earned right and that set off all the drama these last 18 months or so. He certainly is no media whore as one poster put it. I am not saying I have no issues with him but on balance I respect the guy, enjoy how he plays the game and root for him to finish his career on a high note.Edited by: guest301

Leaving aside the question of whether someone has a "right" to retire on ones unilateral terms, Farve had the opportunity to retire a Packer, and took it. Then, after the team moved ahead with their continuation plans and drafted accordingly (they had drafted accordingly six years ago in anticipation of this eventual event), he changed his mind and expected the team to accomodate him. Perhaps you would prefer the more technical term narcissist to something like attention whore? It's pretty clear that the whole retirement drama is something orchestrated and encourage by Farve himiself, and not some media ploy to push out a prominent white quarterback as has been suggested on this site.

I'm sure Vikings fans also hope that he end his career on a high note, and not with a game-killing interception as has been his pattern.

IT seems like me, jaxvid, and guest301 are the only ones who have any respect for Favre.

Wassall has some respect for him as well but didn't like the whole Strahan incident that has been well chronicled on this site.

Like I said in my above post and in a few previous postings in the past, I do have some issues with the way Favre handled this whole thing and the Strahan incident but on par I have enjoyed watching his career unfold and the way he plays the game and not to mention the fact that he is a white larger than life persona in a black man's game. Black superstar athletes retire and unretire all the time and it's not held against them. For you to harp on Favre's interceptions instead of his outstanding play on the field, Super Bowl championship, MVP, Pro Bowls, longevity and other records is unfair and a cheap shot. I totally understand why you don't like him but perhaps you should understand why some of us do like the guy and root for him.

Guest301,

How is pointing out that Farve has thrown a lot interceptions in big games a "cheap shot?" It's simply stating a fact.

Really don't want to get in a back and forth posting battle with you on this because I feel to each his own on this particular subject. However, in answer to your question, the reason your comment is unfair is you seem to be parroting the line that some of Favre's MSM critics use to demean him and take away from his accomplishments, they constantly bring up his interceptions, talk about him being overrated and that his statistics are based totally on longevity and not excellence. You seem to be parroting the same line of thought to a degree. You have made some good points in this thread but I obviously disagree with your conclusion about Favre and I remain a fan. But to each his own. I look forward to the two Viking-Packer showdowns, the drama will be incredible.

Guest301,

I too am not going to post back and forth on this. My final comment here is to note your statement on Farve's critics in the MSM. I very rarely see anything written about Farve that isn't worshipful, quite frankly. This could change, obviously, but Farve clearly seems to be a favorite of the media. There were certainly more negative things said about Marino or Young, just to use two examples.

Yes Warnipple, some of the MSM are still complimentary of Favre but others like Stephen Smith, the two twin black brothers on First Take, and some other white commentators and bloggers are all over Favre as well as the DWF. Both his fans and detractors have some good points to make but for anybody to hate him and to take away from his accomplishments is unfair. Not saying that's you and I am done posting on this topic for now. Hey Jaxvid, you got what you wanted, another nice back and forth controversial thread on Favre, but I will let someone else pick up the ball and run with it for now.

Even if Favre is worshipped by some so what. Look at a guy like Vick who commits a horrendous crime and gets a standing ovation. Now that is sick!Edited by: whiteathlete33

It seems like Favre has had the media turn on him lately. The story about dissntion in the Viking locker room is one example and they have been highly critical of his retiring/unretiring not to mention the latest attention on the cut block. The media was always on him to retire years before he did (the first time) yea the media has treated him better then other white players but still goes after him.

It's not a cheap shot. Wayne Larrivee, (Voice of the Packers) who is the play by play man for all telecasts, has witnessed and described every snap for years. He wrote this in his blog about Favre.

"Don't write off the Packers when they play the Vikings this season and don't think Favre is the quarterback he was five years ago. The one thing you can count on, at some crucial point, Brett will throw the pick that will doom his team's season. In Green Bay we know that all too well."

I like Favre's play & grit, but wished he would have retired (for good) with the Packers (with some finality & class). He says it's competitive drive that motivates his "returns", but I think there's a little too much ego (as well). All in all, Favre's an all-time great...although not on the Montana & Unitas level.Edited by: DixieDestroyer
