Bitter Harvest (2017)

Great movie. Some (((critics))) were predictably very negative about it and gave it unfairly harsh reviews, and the so-called "Chosen" very likely prevented it from being widely shown.

Here's an honest and fair review: http://behindthelensonline.net/site/reviews/bitter-harvest/

The only fault in the movie is not showing Lazar Kaganovich, who was the architect of the Holodomor. Also there was a line by an actor playing a Bolshevik "we know about the famine in Ukraine, and in Kazakhstan, and the famine of the Jews in Belarus". There was no famine among the Jews in Belarus - in fact, the Belarussian Soviet republic didn't exist in 1932, it was the Eastern part of Poland at that time.

Otherwise, it was one of the best historical movies I've seen.

There is a recent Danish film on the bad (against the Geneva Convention) treatment of young German POWs after the end of the war titled "Land of Mine." Rex Reed, a mainstream critic calls it (http://observer.com/2017/02/land-of-mine-movie-review-martin-zandvliet/) "harrowing, intelligent, compelling, and intensely suspenseful investigation of a little-known footnote to world history: what the Danish people did to the young German soldiers left behind after the surrender of Nazi Germany in 1945."

The German youths, mostly age 14-17, were forced to remove some 45,000 land mines the Germans left on the west coast of Denmark. Food and water was withheld. About half were blown to bits from May-October 1945. The theme is the Danes acted as brutally as the Germans supposedly had. Like the better European films, the point is gotten across in a subtle way.

It was favorably reviewed in the United States with a very limited release. "Land of Mine" is on Blu-Ray and DVD. It sometimes plays on the STARZ movie channels.
I watched it last night. Thanks for letting me know about it, excellent movie.

Land of Mine (2015) 9/10

I watched Land of Mine a few months ago and I thought it was well written, well acted. I did see the hatred towards the young German soldiers more than subtlety. It was a mentality that the Germans were nothing but animals/slaves to be hated and forced to die clearing mines as a way of killing them in retaliation. I do not know how true or if anything like that did happen(the ending).

Churchill (2017)

For those of you who loathe Winston Churchill, this is one you'll like. It portrays him as a selfish old alcoholic and suffering from depression (due to memories of his colossal blunder at Gallipoli). He's portrayed as living in the past, uncooperative, and unreasonable (and jealous of Montgomery).

I watched "In Tranzit" about German POWs kept in a female guarded Soviet hell hole last night thru Spamazon Prime. OK movie, didn't shed any glory on the Soviet Union so it gets a thumbs up from me.

For Christmas one of my sons bought the extended releases of the Lord of the Rings trilogy. They added over two hours of cut/edited material to EACH of the three movies, making them over 5 hours long each. It's like seeing the movies for the first time. I love these movies. The movies are true to the novels by Tolkien, and with the added footage, vastly more than the theatrical releases.

I love watching movies where ALL representation of proper civilization is portrayed by whites, just like in real life. "Others" represent chaos, whether it be the orcs, who just happen to be black, or the east Indian types that ride giant elephants. These movies are wonderfully heroic. If you can get your hands on a set of these, set yourself down with 16 or so hours of popcorn and enjoy!

FD, the Lord of The Rings trilogy are some of the best movies ever made, IMO. I own the uncut version that you describe. I don't know how many times I've watched them. Just awesome. Yes, civlizations are correctly portrayed in these movies. The exact opposite of almost everything else that comes out of Hollywood.
