MLB 2025 Season

The Big Dumper adding a Homerun Derby Crown to his MVP worthy season. Tonight he bats cleanup for the AL. Hope he has a good showing there as well.

Raleigh had a base hit in 2 ABs.
Crow-Armstrong had a double.
Alonso hit a 3-run HR!
Donovan had a hit.
Skenes had 2 Ks in one inning.
Carroll with a solo shot.

6-0 NL in the bottom of the 6th

Pitching aside, the AL appears to be like 75% or more none White. The NL is much Whiter, with our guys constituting the majority.

I play fantasy baseball so I’m pretty in tune with which players are having good years. The AL definitely has some undeserving guys that might be there for DEI purposes. I’m sure MLB is no different in bias to over represent non-Whites as all-stars.

Baseball is tough to watch as a casual fan. Tarik Skubal had 10 Ks through 6 2/3 innings along with allowing no runs at that point. He has 1st and 3rd with one out and gets his 11th K. You would assume this is at least his inning, but the manager takes him out. Well, the reliever throws a wild pitch and now it’s a tied game.

What has happened to this sport?

One of a number of reasons I lost interest. And I loved baseball as a kid -- collected zillions of baseball cards, read tons of magazines and books, watched and listened to every game I could, attended Pirates games, played Little League, wiffle ball with friends, etc. I could tell you every pennant winner in both leagues through the years and most of the batting and homerun champs among other trivia. I couldn't get enough of baseball from childhood until early middle age, but now every year I become a little more detached from my long-time favorite sport.

Paul Skenes is being seriously mentioned as a Cy Young candidate -- and his record is 4-8!! Yeah, he's on a terrible team but Cy Young winners to me always had at least 20 wins, or if less than 20 they were close and combined it with other great stats. And the regular season is closing in on being two-thirds over and Skenes has pitched all of 121 innings. No interest and I don't see that changing. Baseball's gone way too far downhill from the things I loved about it.

Analytics going too far!

I forgot to add that it was a lefty replacing the lefty Skubal. I can somewhat understand a manager going lefty for righty and vice versa, but this is arguably the best pitcher in the game coming off of his 11th K and was on only his 105th pitch.

This year there has only been 23(!) complete games pitched, total. By comparison there were only 28 complete games pitched in the entire 2024 season. There used to be that many pitched in a week back when I was a big fan.

Like you said, we are roughly 2/3rds done with the season. There's a pretty good possibility that there are zero 20 game winners this year. Only 3(!!!) pitchers have more than 10. Guys just aren't allowed to pitch deep enough into games to be involved in the decision, win or loss.

Yes I agree with the rest of you here. Back in 1977 the NY Yankees had two twenty game winners on the same team. Baseball was far
more enjoyable to watch at that time. The more they change the game, the worse the product becomes. Especially the huge influx
of the Latin American Players. I root more for players than teams like in most sports. I do enjoy what the Dodgers have done over the last decade though.

The 1971 Baltimore Orioles had four 20 game winners on their staff, the season before that they had three.

Living Legend Mike Trout hit his 18th Home Run of the year today. He now sits at 396 career homers. So he needs 4 more to get to that
400 number. At one time I thought Trout was a lock for 600 to 700 home runs. With injuries taking away 5 or 6 years of his career I will be
happy for him to just reach 500. It's still possible for 600 but unlikely. We can forget about the magical 700 sadly.

He is only 33. His move to DH will prolong his career. I predict his goes off this last part of summer and hits over 30 home runs. Next year he will stay healthier and have a huge season.

His birthday is August 7th so he will be 34 in two weeks time. I'm a huge fan for over a decade. I hope your right. Just trying to be a little more realistic in my expectations. I hope he can make 500 to 600 home runs before he retires! That would be cool. I will always wonder just what could have been if he had only been healthy for the majority of his career?

A’s rookie sensation Nick Kurtz, aka Big Amish, with a historic and all-time great game. 6 for 6 with 4 homeruns, a double and 8 RBI.

Nick Kurtz makes MLB history with a stat line no player has ever achieved in 150 years

“Never in baseball’s 150-year history has a player finished a game with at least six hits, six runs and eight RBIs until Nick Kurtz tonight,” reported ESPN’s Jeff Passan on X. “His 19 total bases tie Shawn Green’s single-game record—and Kurtz had one more RBI. There’s a genuine argument it is the best game ever.”
