Braves Freddie Freeman hit for the cycle again becoming the only player in Braves history to do it twice. The reigning MVP is in the hunt again for two in a row. He's currently leading the league in runs and total bases while hitting .300 and has 27 home runs and 70 RBI.

Ryan Braun retired today after 14 years in MLB, all of them with the Brewers. He was a superstar the first half of his career, regularly hitting over .300, having two 30/30 seasons and scoring over 100 runs and knocking in over 100 for four straight years. Then the injury bug hit, and also a long suspension for PED usage, which he had overturned by claiming the man who tested him was "anti-Semitic." He was just another player the second half of his career, his retirement barely registering a blip in the sports news cycle.

Yep. Harper should get serious consideration for a second MVP. He's leading the league in OPS 1.055 and OPS+ 183. If he could somehow win the batting title it might cement him as the MVP.

The race of some of these young men are sometimes difficult to tell. His father looks white, although his mother not black, may be of Mexican descent. Sometimes they're adopted as well. Anyway, could be a future star.

This year's MLB season has been a little disappointing with Trout only playing in 36 games. He was off to tremendous start and could reached career high in HR's and BA. With that said it looks like the MVP race in The NL will be tight between Bryce Harper and Fernando Tatis, Jr. It seems most are giving Harper the edge right now. The AL MVP consensus seems to going with Shohei Ohtani over Guerrero Jr. We'll see.

Also, there are some younger rising stars to keep an eye on for next season.
Ryan Mountcastle, 1B has slugged 30 HR's to go along with 83 RBI's for Baltimore. 24 years old
Dylan Carlson, CF has 15 HR's and 59 RBI in his rookie season for St. Louis. 22 years old
Jarred Kelenic, CF Seattle. Started slow is batting .320 and has 3 HR's in the last seven games. 21 years old
Alex Kirilloff, OF was playing well for Minnesota before injury his hand. 23 years old
DJ Peters, 1B a mountain of a human at 6'6 for Texas has 12 HR's and 34 RBI's in 62 games. 25 years old

Really disappointed that Bobby Witt Jr. wasn't called up. 21 year old hit 32 HR's and 93 RBI's in 115 minor league games!

Witt’s numbers are great - was he in AA all season?Did not think he had that power as a short stop.

Votto has had an amazing 2nd half of the season. As has Ian Happ who was awful pre all star break. Myles Straw is emerging as a speed merchant type OF - capable of 50 SBs

Witt began the season in AA in Arkansas for 61 games where he hit 16 HR's while batting .295, then was promoted to AAA Omaha for 54 games he has hit another 16 HR's and batting .288'
Right Votto having a great year as well as a couple of other veterans
Paul Goldschmidt who was robbed of the MVP in 2013 has hit 26 HR's with 88 RBI and batting .285 is 2-2 so far this evening. Goldschmidt has always been a great base runner stealing 12 bases this season without being caught. He has 140 stolen bases in his career and 81% success rate.
Future HOF catcher Buster Posey has his .300 all season is at .299 currently. He has 18 HR's and 48 RBI.

Thanks Bucky for posting this article about the Cardinals. I've been meaning to mention them in hopes that they would make the post season. They have a very white lineup. By making this late season run they made the second wild card playoff spot, however it's against The LA Dodgers thus eliminating one of the other white friendly teams.
2B Edman leads off and has good speed with 30 steals.
1B Goldschmidt with a fantastic season, .294/32 HR/99 RBI
LF O'Neill, .286/34 HR/80 RBI
3B Arenado is he white, maybe? 34 HR/105 RBI
RF Rookie Carlson .266/18 HR/ 65 RBI
CF Bader .267/26HR/ 50 RBI
And Paul Dejong a reliable part time SS with 19 HR/ 45 RBI
P Wainwright 17-7
P JA Happ 10-8
P Flaherty 9-2
P Lester 7-6

I followed baseball closely for many years and can't recall a season like this one where four teams lost over 100 games, including two (Baltimore and Arizona) that lost over two-thirds of their games.

Since I didn't follow the '21 season I don't have an explanation, other than the possibility that more teams are following the formula of the putrid ownership of the Pirates (101 losses) and believe they can best maximize their profits by keeping the payroll down and offering a substandard product that still draws enough fans in the stands and on TV to line their pockets each year.

Interesting also that three teams won over 100 games, including the Dodgers who won 106 and still had to qualify as a wildcard!

Tonight the NL Wild Card game ST. Louis at LA. Wainwright against Scherzer. Max Muncy and his 36 HR's won't be playing. Dislocated elbow. Clayton Kershaw will miss the entire post season should LA advance.
Plenty of white talent on both teams.
