Miscellaneous Boxing News

Loma's retirement was likely after the period of silence since the Kambosos win.

He did us proud, possibly the most loathed boxer by castecucks, at least of modern times. I reckon if he was 168 lbs+ he would not get half the grief.

The Haney debacle is a black eye, unforgivable.

I agree Arearequired. Should have made 100s of millions, but kept getting screwed over.

I would say he was robbed of a 8 figure A side title fight against Haney at worst and a possible split purse against Davis which would have been even larger but still in the low 8 figures. I think the loss against Lopez set him back further as he had an injury and had to rehab the injury and have a few comeback fights to gauge his abilities after the injury also the war was another hinderance to his ascension to the top of the 135 pound mountain as he scrapped his title fight to serve in the Ukrainian militia instead of having an undisputed title shot.

On the weekend in the chief support of the Wardley vs Huni card Pierce O'Leary had a workman like victory over Liam Dillon and the won the European 140 pound title this victory will lead to higher profile clashes for world level belts or higher profile domestic clashes. I only watched this fight in passing but it looked like O'Leary was only willing to punch what the reluctant Dillon exposed in his defense which made it look like a paint by numbers fight.

He will need to risk more to capture the publics attention for big money clashes in Saudi Arabia or GB.

As for the main event what can you say but Wardley will be in a fight as long as he conscious as his power that he demonstrated in his recent fights is sudden fight ending power similar to what Wilder had. One difference is Wilder has a freakish length to him and he was babied for years with winnable fights even when he was the paper WBC champion. Wardley has been matched tough for a pro with only 4 sub novice fights in his amateur career and while being 6'5" that isn't that long in this era of the giants.

While I don't see Wardley ever being the undisputed champion with his power he can beat anybody if they zig when they should have zagged.

Yes in my mind he is already a B side name opponent but he is still in the mix for meaningful fights if he wins this fight or at least puts up a credible fight in a loss.

I looked over the cards and they look devoid of White fighters less an obscure prospect or B side cannon fodder opponent. I did notice Nonito Donaire is "back", I hope this isn't for financial reasons like Pacman as the last time I saw him in the ring he and his wife were involved in training a fighter.

PS Donovan vs Crocker II might be for the vacated title of Ennis who "out grew" the welterweight division. This would be the first time an Irishman could claim a welterweight world title since the late Jimmy McLarnin reigned in the golden era of boxing in the 1930's.

Updating the card from the MSG theatre and this prospect isn't White but he is a frightening puncher Teremoana Teremoana destroyed a fat weeble wobble opponent where his opponent was knocked out before he hit the ground in the first round. The Eurasian(half Polynesian half Scottish Aussie) is a potential contender down the road off of size and punching power.

Many prospects look like superman against cannon fodder opponents but few have the mobility and power of this prospect with his size and length (6'6" and 260). A step up to a faded veteran will tell us more of what he is or the potential to be in the heavyweight division.

In the main event what Booth and I speculated about happened as Kambosos was dominated through 8 rounds and stopped after rising from a body punch with the fight half knocked out of him. Veteran referee Michael Griffin showed mercy on Kambosos as while there was still fight left in him the odds of a victory were looking like Powerball ticket odds.

At this point Kambosos could fight on but only as name B side opponent as former undisputed champion will sell tickets for prospect fights but I can't see him being a contender again as all of the problems he had with Hitchins will surface again against younger longer and naturally larger opponents. Hopefully he calls it day.

Vito is fighting a Pole with an undefeated record but his boxing record is filled with questionable opposition and he is a non puncher it should be a win. Kynaba is the semifinal bout, hopefully he isn't fighting the typical fat human punching bag that many heavyweight prospects fight.

The British card has a few White prospects and once again Callum Walsh is hidden away on UFC Fight Pass. Hopefully with White being a front man for the Saudis Walsh can graduate to the new Saudi financed league where more eye balls can see him. Fight Pass is so obscure that streams don't even work on these cards.

Updating the Saturday night card and Damian Kynba is still a work in progress as he clearly was beating his fellow Polish national opponent but he had an opponent who could have made him look spectacular if he did the things that elite large heavyweights do to short 6'1" and 240 pound opponents who aren't elite skills wise. Kynba never punished the fireplug opponent with a heavy jab and let the shorter man burst into his punching zone instead of stepping around him or freezing him in his tracks like Lennox Lewis, Vlad and Vitali did to an art form.

In the end he got a corner stoppage at the end of the 8th round but for a few rounds the commentators were mentioning that Siwas was begging to be stopped as he had a similar look to Tyson against Paul but unlike Paul, Kynba didn't carry his opponent he just didn't have the technical skills to stop him violently.

I missed the Mielnicki fight as the stream I was watching started freezing so I read off of the wire reports he shut out his Polish opponent. Vito could be ready for a fight with a fellow prospect but he is slowly becoming a local hero with a budding fan base so risking a loss could be financial set back for Top Rank.

Mielnicki could be ready for a faded veteran type in his next fight.

PS I missed the British card and the Callum Walsh card less the interim title fight with Yafai getting battered like a pinata by a tough Mestizo from Mexico who was a former minimum weight champion.
