The other guy just had Tszyu's number. He took advantage of Tszyu's lack of footwork and head movement and Tim was a sucker for that left hook.

I've seen a lot of guys start dropping off after a loss like this.
Hock, I agree with you. A beatdown like this sometimes ends a boxer's career. I read this week that Murtazaliev had broken the knuckle on his pinky finger on his right hand two weeks before the fight. That's why he was throwing so many left hooks.

A light boxing schedule this weekend, starting tonight. It looks like the Catterall vs Prograis is the main event this week.

October 25: Massachusetts (DAZN)

  • Rashidi Ellis vs. Brian Chaves; Super welterweight
  • Francis Hogan vs. Elvina Ayala; Middleweight
  • Tommy Hyde vs. Aro Schwartz; Super middleweight
  • Mike Fontanez vs. Bruno Leonard Romay; Super welterweight
  • Joe Bush vs. Keenan Raymond; Welterweight
  • Matt Doherty vs. Eric Palmer; Lightweight
  • Tevin Regis vs. Yeison Berdugo; Lightweight

October 26: Manchester (DAZN)

  • Jack Catterall vs. Regis Prograis; Super lightweight
  • Reece Bellotti vs. Michael Gomez Jr; Super featherweight
  • Campbell Hatton vs. James Flint; Super lightweight
  • Pat McCormack vs. William Andres Herrera; Welterweight
  • Junaid Bostan vs. Maico Sommariva; Super welterweight
  • William Crolla vs. Lorenzo Grasso; Super welterweight
  • Ste Clarke vs. Mateusz Pawlowski; Middleweight
  • Joe McGrail vs. Lewis Morris; Featherweight
  • Emily Whitworth vs. Sara Orszagi; Bantamweight
Yes a slow weekend the American card seems to be a prospect card with a few White prospects on it but I will probably pass on watching it over the World Series. If there is a violent knockout or a brilliant performance I could review the fight as I have DAZN(well worth the money for the boxing and NFL in Canada).

On Saturday the main event is essentially a semi final to a Saudi sweepstakes fight against a champion there. Previous to the recent form of Prograis I would say the fight is a near coin flip but Prograis has looked poor and is 35 and probably fading. So Catteral should win this one going away but that's only on the form sheet. The rest of the card is essentially a prospect card but has some interesting White prospects.

I hope the Polish prospect has the fight on television as it looks like it's the opening bout of the card.

Bek "The Bully" is fighting the semifinal bout on the DAZN card. His management team has eased up on the reigns since his shocking prospect loss in a cross roads bout against ethnic PR junkyard dog Rosado. He was streaking towards a title shot at Alvarez in under 10 bouts but has had developmental fights since the loss, less his rematch with the retired Philly veteran. I suspect his opponent isn't an elite opponent, the Uzbek needs to fight an eliminator as he was on the verge of fighting in one before the upset loss.

The British card has a White headliner in Davies but it is essentially another prospect card similar to the one last week. It's telling about the headline abilities of female fighters as Chantelle Cameron is defending her world belt and is the semifinal to the domestic clash with Davies and Masoud.

PS Bek is in a WBA eliminator but his opponent is a rather obscure opponent but Bek didn't make weight for the eliminator and only Stevens can earn the title shot opportunity if he wins the bout.

Updating the cards from last night it seemed like Kynba toyed with his opponent and then stepped on the gas in the 3rd round and forced a stoppage over his veteran opponent Richard Lartey. I did not watch this bout and read about this off the ringside reports but if Kynba can convincingly beat a Coffie then opponents like this are either resume padding or are marking time bouts.

The Polish prospect could use stiffer opponents than this, IMO.

Local boxer Bryce Mills battered around his club fight level opponent until his opponents corner pulled their fighter at the time of the stoppage Ohan was just absorbing punishment and not firing back for long stretches of the bout and the referee was looking at the Ohan closely so the corner pulling the plug on the beating was reasonable. Mills looks like he is a prospect worth watching.

On the DAZN card Bek "The Bully" should have earned an obvious decision but one judge was either mailing in his scorecard or on inebriating substances as he scored it for Bek's opponent but it was obvious that the Uzbek easily out boxed his opponent down the stretch of the bout as Stevens seemed to go into a defensive shell in the last 5 rounds of the bout and that made the difference in the fight as the fight until that point was roughly even on the scorecards.

Boxing politics might get Bek a mandatory title shot after this win but I don't understand how you win an eliminator for the 168 pound title and weigh in at 170 pounds.

The b side of the Quebec based main event is a Ukrainian fighter who has been fighting in Quebec and I am assuming the same promotional shows. It's rare that a promotion cannibalizes one of their fighters so that a bigger star can emerge. I suspect the Ukrainian was brought in to make the Afro-Cuban shine but I could be wrong.

Steven Butler is on the comeback after losing at the domestic level another loss and his career will be on the skids at even this level of boxing.

On Saturday DAZN has a double championship card with Karen Chukhadzhian getting a rematch with Ennis from what I remember of the first bout it wasn't remotely competitive but the West Asian based out of the Ukraine went the distance and took a beating from the budding welterweight star.

Also Bam Rodriguez has a showcase bout and is rumored to have big fights lined up in 25' and I assume will fight in Saudi Arabia if the opponents can be financially satisfied, which should be easy to for the Saudis as champions in the sub 126 pound range rarely earn 7 figure purses.

PS the biggest out of the ring news is that the "Monster" signed with the Saudi promotional firm and will have multiple fights lined up in 25' and is rumored to earn low 8 figures for his bouts which is a record guarantee for sub 126 pound fighters. https://fightnews.com/riyadh-season-inks-monster-inoue/166626

Updating the weeks bouts and Steven Butler beat his club fight opponent and saved his career as viable A side fighter on the domestic level scene. I wonder if he will get a cross roads bout against a prospect on a Top Rank card in the future as his promotional company have a working agreement with Top Rank to cross promote their fighters.

Also as speculated Osleys Iglesias wiped out his Ukrainian opponent with one punch in the 5th round and retained his minor world level belt. I missed both bouts and I just read the results off the wire reports but the Afro-Cuban sounds like he is a live dog in the 168 pound division and could be in the Willian Scull sweepstakes. As every viable contender will have a decent purse offer to Scull to win his world belt as Scull seems vulnerable after his disputed win of the IBF belt last month.

Also I missed mentioning Gustavo Lemos was fighting former prospect and now at least fringe contender Keyshawn Davis. Lemos was last seen losing a tight decision against Ritchardson Hitchins at 140 pounds in an IBF eliminator but he dropped down to lightweight against Davis and failed badly in making weight. The fight was in limbo but the Virginia boxing commission allowed the bout to continue.

It would have been better for Lemos if the bout and the card was scrapped as he was wiped out inside of 2 rounds and he will need a rebuild after this loss as he was dropped 3 times in the second round. The aggressive Argentine was caught with his temple exposed and never recovered from the first knockdown. If Lemos wants hard currency and B side work he will get it off the Hitchins fight but it will be visiting prospects home towns and hoping to score a spectacular upset in his future if he wants Top Rank or Matchroom work.

On Saturday night Karen Chukhadzhian applied a different approach to his mandated rematch against Boots Ennis and lost a tougher fight than a quick glance of the scorecards would indicate. At the start of the 5th round he seemed to be even up with local champion but was forced to take a knee while under heavy fire. After that most rounds went to Ennis but the Ukrainian national won rounds but never seemed to have the same pop in his punches he had prior to the 5th round and that may have been the deciding factor of the bout.

He's not White but he is a budding superstar as Bam Rodriguez easily disposed of Pedro Guevara with 2 violent knockdowns with the 2nd leaving the former champion too woozy to rise and no count was given to the prone challenger.

After the showcase bout Hearn confirmed what has been speculated about writers and fans that Bam would have a fight on Saudi soil for a mega purse for the 115 pound division.

Yes the Paul vs Tyson circus is the "big event" of the weekend. If it is regarded as an event this fight will be big as stories have popped up on the internet that the clown show has taken the most action in years on a boxing match and the betting public/suckers are betting on Tyson.

The undercard has a rematch of probably the greatest female match in the short history of female sanctioned boxing matches in Taylor vs Serrano II. Also the undercard has a WBC welterweight title fight so the card is loaded for a free card for Netflix subscribers.

I don't expect much of the main event and with the handcuffs on the younger Paul with heavier gloves and shorter rounds Tyson may be able to go rounds. If Paul is smart he circles on the outside and waits for Tyson to start breathing like a 2 pack a day smoker forced to catch the last public transit bus for the night and then either boxes his ears off or goes in for the kill and badly stops Tyson or forces his corner to throw in the towel.

Lost in the shuffle is the cruiserweight unification match with Billam-Smith vs Ramirez on Saturday night. This fight is also up against Jones vs Miocic headlining a UFC card in a heavyweight title fight so this fight might slip through the cracks with the public but is probably the top fight of the weekend skills gap wise. https://fightnews.com/

PS Tyson slapped Paul at the weigh in which probably means there aren't handcuffs on either boxer as Tyson has done weird things at weigh ins over the years due to high stress. You think he would be calm as he is essentially free rolling with the boxing public considering he is fighting a man who is the age of one his many bastards floating around the United States.

Updating the Paul vs Tyson card and it is one down with one to go as Irish superstar Katie Taylor edged out PR spitfire Amanda Serrano with a controversial one point victory on all 3 cards. I had a crappy feed that wasn't working properly and it might have been the Netlfix servers as othe people complained about the same problems as myself with a Netflix subscription so I can't say if Serrano was given the bum steer but on the surface it looked like she edged out Taylor but I missed too much action to say either way.

Well the Paul vs Tyson fight ended with Tyson limping across the finish line. If the rumors of Tyson grossing 20million for the fight are true then he could have grossed more than decades worth of hustling the memorabilia circuit and casino and hall appearances for this fight. After about a minute Tyson had nothing left but a shot here and there and Paul just circled and boxed Tyson with the occasional power combo. After the 3rd round it was obvious Paul was carrying Tyson (to a point), things were so bad energy wise that in the last round Tyson literally ran like a rabbit to hear the final bell.

I'm kinda glad that the Tyson-Paul fight didn't get its own thread here. I was sucked into watching most of the program while multitasking from my couch on a slow Friday night.

In two-minute rounds, Tyson was looking every bit of 58 by the third round of eight. He looked wobbly and downright Biden-esque in rounds four and five, but "rallied" to finish the fight on the short end of a lopsided decision.

The betting odds were against this fight going the distance, and I have no reason to not believe that 27 yr old Jake Paul deliberately paced slowly against his 58 yr old opponent to pad his pockets even further (plus those of his owners, who control his fame and direction and could take it away at any time). They even brought on a "betting expert" from the branded sports book sponsor to highlight that both Paul +180 and Tyson +290 were good bets to finish the fight by knockout... you know, just in case you hadn't placed your bets yet.

The whole thing had a very "Colosseum," bread-and-circuses feel to it. It was another distraction from the everyman's real everyday problems, and everyone going home happy was the logical conclusion.

I love the line "Tyson lost to an Ed Hardy shirt that came to life".

Yes the fight did have a Roman Coliseum fight type feel to it without the emperor giving the thumbs up or down for Paul violently stopping the beyond shot Tyson(or maybe Paul mentally gave the thumbs up).

The Saudi card is during the day and the first quality fight of the card just finished and White Mexican Oscar Duarte beat Russian national but Eurasian Tatar(descendants of Mongol invaders and Caucasian people that interbred with the invaders) Batyr Akhmedov. Akhmedov can't seem to win a tight fight as he is now 10 and 4 but every loss has been a tight controversial loss. He went back to Russia to rebuild and unless he gets an immediate rematch he may do the same thing again.

Duarte is looking for an eliminator or title shot but I still have memories of him being flattened by probable drug cheat Ryan Garcia so that could inhibit a decent purse offer from a 140 pound champion.

Updating the Saudi card and White Mexican William “El Camarón” Zepeda escaped with a split decision win over formally "shot" Tevin Farmer. Zepeda was dropped in the 4th round by a straight right hand and had to win every round down the stretch of the fight to secure the decision. He is now the WBC interim champion and is a mandatory to Shakur Stevenson. Off this form he would be a decided underdog against the smooth boxing Stevenson.

I missed this fight but reading off of wire reports Chris Billam-Smith lost a hard fought decision to Zurdo Ramirez. It seemed like CBS ate too many punches and didn't impose his superior strength on the naturally smaller Ramirez. It looks like the decision was accurate and wasn't a house decision too.

The Duarte vs Akhmedov fight was one of the best fights I have seen in a long time. Both fighters were technically great. A rematch is in order.

I overheard people talk about the Tyson fight in real life beforehand, such was it's reach. Not a big surprise it would be pedestrian with Paul not brutally KOing a 58 yo man and essentially a sparring session.

A lot of people who aren't really boxing fans got suckered into watching it.

People are really feeling sorry for Tyson. He made over 20 million dollars at 58. A lot of great fighters in their 50's, 60's are broke and 99.9 % of everyday people will never see that kind of money.

Yes he grossed a reported 20 million, the standard split is half goes to your team and management so that would leave Tyson with 10 million before taxes and he would net about 6.2 and change if he can't manage that amount of money into a nest egg to deal with health issues down the line then he can never have enough money.

As you stated many champions of his era have squandered millions. This week Oliver McCall had a 4 round fight against a journeyman fighter who was only 5 years younger than him. At best McCall grossed 10k with the standard deductions he might make more on SSI if he doesn't have another source of income and McCall grossed at least mid 7 figures in his career. https://fightnews.com/mccall-59-crushes-frazier-in-two/167011

Concerning the action this week only the Adams vs Andreas Katzourakis is on standard North American television on DAZN. The Greek national is a bit of mystery to me but Adams is a known quantity who momentarily stopped the career momentum of Bohachuk with a mid rounds rally to stop the undefeated prospect after losing every round and nearly every minute of the fight. So he is dangerous.

Updating the main event from last night and "Katz" won a tight decision over the veteran Adams I missed most of the fight so I can't tell with certainty if the Greek national won a house decision but Adams had to know that as veteran without much a future if the fight was tight he wouldn't be given the benefit of the doubt.

The smothering style of the Greek boxer made the scoring near impossible to decipher on television let alone in person with one angle as it seemed after he scored with combinations the Black American veteran replied with similar combos. It was a proverbial pea soup but a fan friendly one.

There are potential big fights out there for the Greek boxer if he keeps on winning as the favorite "son" of the crown prince(Crawford) is planting a flag in the division and any B side challenger will be compensated well for the time. Also Tszyu, Madrimov and others are in this division as possible foils too.

The boxing schedule for this weekend is light or I missed some bouts. White is right the Adams vs Katz fight was terrific. It could have gone to Adams, but Katz got the nod. Katzourakis was much better than I thought he was.

It's a slow week as far as I know this is the only card broadcast on North American television. Edwards vs Yafai is the only world level bout on essentially a prospect card. Edwards is the favorite to beat the Arab-Brit but he could be damaged goods as the beating he took from Bam was violent and a prolonged beating many fighters are ruined from these beatings.

Two big press conferences announced B level fights but they both may have A level attention as Chisora vs Wallin was announced and Garcia vs a Japanese kickboxer fighting under boxing rules was also announced.

Wallin similar to Chisora is in must win mode, if you can't beat Chisora who can you beat at the world level. Similar to Edwards Wallin may not be the same fighter he was entering the Joshua bout but he was rescued by his corner before he took a real bad beating as he looked like he had at least a few rounds in him before the corner surrender.

The Ryan Garcia fight is Jake Paul 2.0 with a novice boxer in the opposite corner and the fight being scheduled for 8 rounds and only 2 minutes a round. As far as I know the Garcia bout is an exhibition so it could be similar to Ali vs Alzado or it could be similar to Mayweather trying to decapitate the various MMA fighters he fought in "exhibitions".

Hopefully for the Japanese opponent Garcia carries him similar to Paul vs Tyson or this could be an ugly knockout.

The boxing schedule for this weekend is light or I missed some bouts. White is right the Adams vs Katz fight was terrific. It could have gone to Adams, but Katz got the nod. Katzourakis was much better than I thought he was.

Nov. 30: Birmingham, England (DAZN)

  • Sunny Edwards vs. Galal Yafai, 12 rounds, for the vacant WBC interim flyweight title
  • Kieron Conway vs. Ryan Kelly, 12 rounds, middleweights
  • Troy Jones vs. Michael Stephenson, 10 rounds, for Jones' English light heavyweight title
  • Cameron Vuong vs. Gavin Gwynne, 10 rounds, lightweights
  • Conah Walker vs. Lewis Ritson, 10 rounds, welterweights
  • Troy Jones vs. Michael Stephenson, 10 rounds, light heavyweights
  • Hamza Uddin vs. Benn Norman, 8 rounds, middleweights
  • Ibraheem Sulaimaan vs. Marvin Solano, 6 rounds, junior lightweights

VERY impressive pro debut from Taylor Bevan. Definitely one to watch out for!
I missed the prospects and the domestic championship level fights live and so far have only seen the Indo-Brit prospect at flyweight opening the card.

I did see the Sunny Edwards bout and he seemed to being seeing ghosts from the punches of the Afro-Arab Brit as he complained to his corner about wanting to quit after the first round. Only his defensive acumen kept in the fight to the 6th round and a telling sign of how the fight was going to end was at the end of the 5th round when Edwards bounced a bomb of the chin of Yafai and Yafai laughed at the punch and kept on coming. The stoppage while looking premature was inevitable as Edwards was never a puncher and couldn't avoid the punches of Yafai.

Edwards announced his retirement after the bout as he said he lost his desire for the sport but left the window open for a comeback but he is between a rock and hard place as he really doesn't have the power to hold off naturally bigger stronger men and will give up more height and reach too. I hope his potential training of prospects sticks but the lure of a payday could get him back in the ring as he still in his late 20's.

Paro vs Richardson is the crown jewel fight of the weekend. Paro is only a marginal favorite but IMO should be a solid favorite. Hitchinson got a gift house decision to defeat his gritty Argentine opponent and looked terrible at times in the fight. Off of that form it should be easy work for the Australian less Hitchinson's form rapidly improves.

Charr vs Pulev is for the WBA regular belt but the winner could back door a legitimate title fight and get a decent 7 figure payday against whomever emerges from the dust of the current title situation and could even get promoted to a full champion if all the belts split up after Usyk vs Fury II as the title defense for the winner would be the least lucrative title fight imaginable in the current Saudi sweep stakes financial environment.

If Pulev wins he would be the oldest White champion in the history of the division and would certainly be as a challenger for the lineal title but I am getting ahead of myself here.

PS the crown prince is having fantasy camp and dialed up 48 and soon to be 49 year old Wlad Klitschko to challenge for Dubois' paper title as the crown prince wants Wlad to break George Foreman's title winning age record. Let's hope that this fantasy doesn't play out as Wlad should have nothing left and could look as bad as Tyson did last month without an opponent carrying him beyond a round or so.

PS2 Vinny Pazienza was voted into the IBHOF while I don't agree with his induction as he didn't have enough quality wins to merit induction but he will always have warm place in my heart for this win...

Updating the fights from Europe and Kubrat Pulev won the WBA regular title as he peppered the game Charr but never had him in serious trouble. Pulev seemed a reasonable copy of his prime conditioning wise but I suspect he would have the Syrian national knocked out at some point if it was the Pulev around his ill fated challenge of Wlad.
