Mike Trout is a part of yet another record at still a young age. Trout only the second MLB player to win three MVP's by his year 27 season. The other was the great Stan Musial. He also has four second place finishes.
I was watching the announcement and before he won they asked him about his season being shortened by his foot injury. He said he played with the injury for a month, before he had to have surgery. Seems like a pretty tough/courageous young man as well.

I did not know Trout played through that injury. Stan Musial was another universally loved player like Trout.

In all my years of watching sports Mike Trout has to be one of the nicest stars I have ever witnessed.

The season was tainted for me because he missed roughly the last month. I couldn't relax after that. But after signing that big long contract he made Angels fans proud and I can't wait for next season. Trout has had minor injury setbacks the past few years and I hope those days are behind him.

I believe the Angels are zeroing in on getting P Gerrit Cole.

Can't help but wonder how Trout missing about 90 games over the last three seasons due to injury and now missing 90+ more this season due to Covid-19 will affect how he goes as far as what could have been? He could still go down as the greatest ever, but his chance of having the best WAR ever is going to be difficult. He was on pace to pass a lot of other players on HR's, hits, runs and as mentioned WAR. He has missed 180 games during the prime of his career. Hopefully he'll be hot over the 60 game schedule and hit about 30 HR's

Trout, two more homeruns last night. Went 4-5, 4RBI, and 4 runs scored. He's now second in MLB with 7 HR's despite missing 4 games to be with his wife for the birth of his son.

Simply put, he is an all-time talent. This shortened year is going to hurt his career numbers which is unfortunate.

When you look at all the time some players lost to military service I don't think this will be too much of a downgrade on his career records.

It won't downgrade his career, however it will likely affect some of the all time records he could break. He was ahead of Ricky Hendersons' all time runs scored record, which would've been really difficult to break considering Henderson played for 25 years. Trout currently has 917 career runs scored and would have most certainly went over 1,000 this year, can stay on pace with RH if he can score at least 23 more runs this season. He's on track for about 26 more.
The all time WAR record at age 28 will go back to Ty Cobb. Trout was on record pace for that as well. He definitely won't catch Cobb in that category. Trout currently at 73.4, needs another 5.2 this season to catch Ty who's at 78.6 through age 28 season. If Trout can continue to play well for the rest of the season, he could catch up to Cobb by the end of next season as Cobb had a down year for WAR; 7.9 during his age 29 season. We'll see?
So many things have go your way during a long career to break these records. It's amazing what guys like Cobb and Ruth and Johnson did during their careers. I'll even throw in Hank Aaron. These guys were consistent over a long period of time.

BTW, Trout hit a league leading 9th HR last night against the LA Dodgers.

Speaking of Trout's WAR climb, he just passed HOF Jim Thome.. Next up HOF's Pud Galvin and then Frank Thomas. Trout is really showing his greatness at a young age by already passing some big time players. He'll likely pass Reggie Jackson and possibly the great Johnny Bench this season.

Breaking the record set by Willie Mays who hit those marks in 1,295 contests. Sadly, Trout probably won't be stealing many more bases in his career. Managers these days won't risk injury to Trout by letting him go.

From a shear stat comparison, it's not even close!! Betts doesn't have one stat better than Trout's. Yes, Trout has played the equivalent of two more seasons, but Trout is still way ahead in percentages! His career BA is even better than Betts' Betts is a lead off hitter. I thought they were supposed to be the best contact hitters?
Betts does have an MVP and a WS ring. Which brings me to my next point. Betts has been surrounded by good/great players and played in Fenway Park for most of his career, a hitters dream! Trout plays in a spacious field in LA.
If not for injuries Trout's stats would be astronomical.
Trout is not only the best player of this generation, He's in the conversation as the GOAT through his age 28 season! He's in the Babe Ruth/Ty Cobb/Mickey Mantle/Willie Mays company!

WAR stats have now come out and Trout is leading the league at 0.8 through 7 games.
Barring some kind of injury, he should start to pass some of the greatest players of all time. Up first, arguably the greatest catcher of all time, Johnny Bench. Bench is the leader in WAR for all catchers at 75.1. Trout is at 74.8.
Then the likes of Paul Molitor, Ozzie Smith, Robin Yount, Brooks Robinson, Joe DiMaggio, and Pete Rose. Should pass all of those with ease by the end of the year. Then Rod Carew and Nolan Ryan. He has an outside shot of catching what some have said was in the top three five tool players of all time in Ken Griffey Jr. Jr. is at 83.8.
Trout could've have caught him already, but missing games due to injury and last years shortened season has derailed him a little.

He now leads the league in OBP: .508, SLG: .769, OPS: 1.277, and OPS+: 256.
He's tied for the league lead in WAR: 1.2.
Trout has passed arguably the greatest Catcher of All Time, Johnny Bench in career WAR. at 75.3. He's now tied with HOF OF/1B Sam Crawford. Crawford BTW is the career leader in Triples, 309.
Trout no doubt is on pace for his fourth MVP.
