Earlier on the Mike Trout thread I did a comparison of Mike Trout and Ken Griffey Jr. stat wise at the end of their first three seasons. I projected Trout's numbers because he hadn't quite finished a complete third season, but now Trout has come up on his 1600th career at bat, actually he's at 1598 and should get 1600 today. Griffey finished at exactly 1600 at bats at the end of his third season and is widely regarded as one of the top 5, 5 tool players of all time. He was highly praised as soon as he entered the major leagues.
Here are their stats after 1600 at bats. I will adjust Trout's after he gets 1600. I've adjusted Trout's stats after he went 4 for 5 and got his 1600th at bat.
BA: Trout: .313, Griffey: .299
H: Trout: 502, Griffey: 478
R: Trout: 321, Griffey: 228
2B: Trout: 96, Griffey: 93
3B: Trout: 22, Griffey: 8
HR: Trout: 83, Griffey: 60
RBI Trout: 264, Griffey: 241
SB: Trout: 96, Griffey: 50
SB% Trout: 89%, Griffey: 68%
OBP% Trout: .403, Griffey: .367
SLG% Trout: .556, Griffey: .479
OPS% Trout: .959, Griffey: .846
TB: Trout: 891, Griffey: 767
Unluckily for Trout, he's been in a mild slump over the last 6 or 7 games or his numbers would have been even better! However, he's still clearly the SUPERIOR talent to this point. Leading the great KG Jr. in every category!
He's in the Mantle/Mays category at this point, but as I've repeatedly said, he's going to have cut back on his SO's (397), if he's to be the greatest 5 tool player of all time!
I look forward to observing the rest of his career!
