I expected Sam Hubbard to have a huge breakout second season in 2019, and he has, but Maxx Crosby is already a star as a rookie.

In Week 11 Crosby was named AFC Defensive Player of the Week after becoming just the second rookie since 1988 to record four sacks in a game.

Madd Maxx has been a terror for The Raiders! Outstanding start to his career, this is just the start.

Crosby has “flashed” anytime I have watched the Raiders. He is a fun player to watch.

I have to give Mayock and Gruden credit for their draft class. Hopefully they follow it up with a similar draft class in 2020.

Raiders DE Maxx Crosby snubbed for spot on PFWA All-Rookie team

by Levi Damien

There may not be a better story among this year’s rookie class than that of Maxx Crosby. He was a 4th round pick out of Eastern Michigan who finished the year boasting numbers that have him in the conversation for Defensive Rookie of the Year. Or at least making an All-Rookie team.

The first of those All-Rookie teams was released Tuesday with the Pro Football Writers Association putting out theirs. Josh Jacobs was there. He was named their Offensive Rookie of the Year. Notably absent was Crosby.

Crosby has the misfortune of playing the same position as Nick Bosa, who had a rookie record 80 pressures this season. Even with fewer sacks (9.0) than Crosby (10.0) those pressure numbers are hard to deny. Bosa was named the PFWA Defensive Rookie of the Year.

There are two DE spots on the PFWA team though, so Crosby would seem to have had a decent shot at the other one. He was passed over in favor of Josh Allen.

On one hand, it’s impressive for a 4th round pick to be going toe-to-toe with the 2nd overall pick (Bosa) and the 7th overall pick (Allen). On the other hand, Crosby is a better overall player than Allen.

Allen had only slightly better pressure numbers. He had 10.5 sacks to Crosby’s 10.0, 22 QB hits to Crosby’s 14, and 49 pressures to Crosby’s 45. But Crosby blows him out of the water in every other statistical category.

Crosby has more tackles (46) than Allen (44), five more tackles for loss (16), eight more run stops (23), two more forced fumbles (4), and four pass breakups while Allen had none. By the fifth game of the season, Crosby had proven he was an every-down defensive end. Allen was never given those responsibilities.

So, if you’re thinking Crosby deserved the nod over Allen, you have a legit gripe. Playing the position shouldn’t be just about how many times you can get to the quarterback.

It’s nice to see an article strongly advocating for Crosby using the Player A to Player B type comparison we often use on CF. Makes it clear for the casual fan or dwf to see.

However, I do have to say that the writer is coming from the perspective of a Raider’s fan site. If Josh Allen was on Oakland and Maxx Crosby on Jacksonville, would the article take a different direction? I can see the headline: Why Josh Allen Deserves his Spot on the All-Rookie Team Despite What the Stats Say.

Here's a highlight video of Crosby's first year. He's fast and quick and will be a long time star in the NFL. Also the video has decent football music instead of low quality rap.

Crosby had a terrific rookie year and I can't wait to see how he builds on it this season. Here's a highlight reel (the one in the post above is no longer available). It has to be watched on YouTube:

Nice highlights of Crosby. He is just relentless. A real draft steal. As was Hunter Renfro. Imagine that, the Raiders get two white impact players in the same draft.

Would never have happened under Del Rio.

Maxx continues to be very under-rated:

DE Maxx Crosby Leads 2019 Draft Class With 93 Pressures
The numbers say that defensive end Maxx Crosby leads the 2019 NFL Draft class in career sacks and notably, career pressures

by Hikaro Kudo

The numbers don’t lie.

While initially, it may seem that Las Vegas Raiders defensive end Maxx Crosby took a step backward last season due to his sack total dropping from 10 in 2019 to seven in 2020, that’s not the full story.

Time and time again I have said that Crosby is an all-around defensive player. Sacks can’t be the thing that shows how effective and valuable Crosby is to the Silver and Black.

After two seasons in the NFL, Crosby has 93 total pressures in his career. That leads the entire 2019 NFL Draft class.

In addition, his 17 career sacks book as the 15th-most sacks since entering the league in 2019. Crosby also has the most sacks of any player in the 2019 NFL Draft class.

I have continued saying that Crosby is missing a key element with the Raiders: support. With an overhaul of the Raiders' defense this offseason, Crosby may finally receive the defensive support he has been missing.

Raiders' third-round pick (No. 79 overall), defensive end Malcolm Koonce, from the most recent draft could turn out to be the player Crosby needs on the other end of the defensive line for a dual threat.

Of course, don’t forget about defensive ends Yannick Ngakoue and Clelin Ferrell, as well.

However, with the overhaul of the defense this season after the hire of defensive coordinator Gus Bradley, we’ll see his approach and who he decides to pair up with Crosby.

Madd Maxx is due for stardom. Has a lot of upside for a 4th Rd pick! ;)

As I've maybe said before "value pick" could be a code word in the draft room for melanin challenged players who will play above their draft status.

"I think I see a value pick coming up" with a wink and a chuckle.

"I think I see a value pick on the board -- despite his obligatory stiff hips and slow 40 time even though I have no idea what it is"

I didn't realize Maxx led the Raiders in tackles this season. That's extremely impressive for a defensive end.

Maxx is hooper as well as one of the best d-ends in the nfl. Several nice dunks while playing street ball.

Nice! Look where Maxx took off from on that first dunk. He’s clearly a fantastic athlete! Top 99% for his size / mass.
