Matthew Boling 9.98, 19.92, 44.84 and 8.25 LJ

So Boling ran a 6.56 out of lane 8 with a horrible start! WOW is that some kind of closing speed. I assumed he had a good start until I watched the video a few times. He
was playing catchup which is hard to to over the 60 meters. He closed like a speeding bullet. If he gets a better start in the 60 finals he may go low 6.50's!

 
Good run by Boling.
Since the top 2 favorites were eliminated for false starts in the heats, Boling is looking better for a medal in the 60m.
A bit disappointed with his Long Jump performance. He took 3rd.
 
It was a weird 60 meter finals. They had a false start where most of the sprinters kept running except for 2 of them. About a half hour later they finally ran the race
and Boling was only average today. Dissapointing as he only finished in 5th place running a time of 6.63. No excuses as all the other sprinters had to experience the
same delay and nervousness. Boling just didn't get a good start again and most of the time that determines who wins over 60 meters. All is not lost as this again will let
him and his coach know that he has to work on his start and drive phase until he doesn't have to think about it anymore. It doesn't factor nearly as much over 100 meters
as it does indoors. Sad perfomance so far in both the long jump and the 60. He still has the 200 meters in a little while from now. Good luck to Boling and I hope he can
bounce back and break his p.b. over 200 meters indoors and repeat as national champion!

The NCAA National Champs was just a nightmare overall for Boling. He did take 3rd in the long jump so I guess he got one medal. He was 5th in the 60 and second
in the 200 but was then disqualified for running out of his lane. Just one of those weekends. The pressure must have got to him. He is human and it happens.

On the bright side he has set two new personal bests in the 60 meters. He ran 6.59 and the 6.56 so that should help him outdoors. As always it's his start and drive
phase that needs an incredible amount of training and hard work to get it right. My advice to him is give up the long jump and just focus on the sprints.
 
tough day for Boling, but i am confident he will learn from this and continue to improve. he’s hungry to be the best, and this is just another step in the journey.
 
I look at the comments on track boards and under the track videos with Boling in them. I notice that many track fans and even people that still run track
think he is over raced just like last year. The long jump takes so much out of you. How can you have much left? Today his body was shot before he even ran
the 60 and the 200 meters. So I'm not the only one to think this. Boling needs to give up the long jump. At least for a season to really work on only the sprints.

He owes it to himself and his family to not keep taking on so many events. It's killing the kid. I believe he turned his ankle once or twice in the 200 meters final
which led him to a DQ because of a lane violation. Why would your ankles give out like that? Two reasons. Long jumping takes it's toll. Second just being over raced
and his body is worn out. This is only indoors. His coach should know this. She is not giving him the proper advice. Screw the points for the team. They are really
hurting this kids chance at a pro career. Boling has a p.b. of 10.11 in the 100 from way back in 2019. Explain that? I can. Bad coaching and over racing period!

Age and time flies by quick for any sprinter. At 21 years of age he needs to get focused on 2 things. The 100 and 200 meters period! That's it. Add more 60's in the
indoor season and quit the damn long jump. Unless that is what he wants to do then just do that. This multitasking is hurting his career.

I still stand my my prediction that he will go sub 10 and sub 20 wind legal this summer.

Boling turned his ankle whilst trying to keep his step inside the lane marker, he did so because his momentum was carrying him to the outside of his lane. He misjudged his corner(we've all done it) and paid the price. I agree he had too many events this Championships but as I keep saying he has been quoted in more than one interview his favorite event is LJ so I can only surmise it is his choice to do long jump. Personally if I were his coach he wouldn't get anywhere near the long jump pit. Far too much risk of serious injury....

If Boling had made his corner better he wins easily. I noticed he was extremely fatigued in the 4x400m relay but he is one tough kid and he fought through it. I also noticed in his 200m semi he was struggling with tired legs you could tell on the last curve and in the straight to the finish line.

Yes he will learn from this.....hopefully after outdoors are wrapped up he turns pro...

With NIL he is essentially a pro now, there is no need to turn pro unless he can make the national team in an individual event as his NIL deal could taper off if he were to drift down to a middling pro who isn't getting Diamond League lanes or invitations to jump the long jump.

They are definitely overrunning Boling. Look how burned out he appears to be in his 400 meter relay leg. I hope he gets a good recover break before the outdoor season starts.

Judging from the weather there is more time to shave off of even if his peak was achieved for the season(I can't see it as it's still late March). I saw various spectators wearing spring/fall clothing so the weather while warm wasn't anything close to 90 degrees+.

He could do sub 10 and 20 in the same season if the wind gauge cooperates.

I hope Boling can get close to 20 seconds this weekend. I wish he would have skipped the 4 x 100 relay and just run the 100 & 200 meters. Those are his main
events and he needs to focus on getting his body used to doing both events on the same day or weekend. That's the only way to prepare for running rounds
in championships. Cole Beck is even in both the 100 & 200 meters. I'm shocked to see both Quinn and Beck running the 200. I'm guessing just to build their speed
endurance as neither of them are the level of talent that Boling is over 200 meters. Anyways, good luck to Matthew Boling. Hope he puts down a very fast time!

Reminds me of this (non)classic scene:


I remember hearing that Michael Phelps used to eat something like six McDonald's breakfast sandwiches every day! Perhaps not necessarily before his Olympics races but rather during his training phases in Ann Arbor.

Old words of wisdom: "you can't out-train a bad diet"... unless, of course, you can.

Boling is in lane 7 today with Joseph Fanbulleh in lane 6. Joseph has a PB of 19.91.
 
At the Tennessee Relays next Friday the 8th, the 100 is contested at 3:10 PM and the 200 at 5:30 PM. I hope he lets all hang out on the 100 and if he doubles, let what ever happens, happens.

I remember a workout partner of mine from years ago saying that phrase. I always wondered if I could actually put train a bad diet if working out became my full time job. I’ve heard various stories over the years of athletes living on fast food haha.
 
Lane 6 was a big competitive advantage for Joseph Fahnbulleh. He could see Boling but Boling couldn't see him. Boling will beat Joseph in both the 100 and 200 before the season is out.
 
I am sure this conversation has been brought up but what are the chances Boling turns pro after this season ? I think he might do it if he can go sub 9.96 this spring. This guy should be a sub-20 200 meter guy soon as he does own the 4th fastest indoor 200 meters of all time I believe. At one time this indoor season he was the worlds best 200 meter runner, top 3 in the long jump, top 20 in the 60 meters and his college team was ranked # 1 in the 4 x 400 relay. Pretty damn impressive.

Boling may turn pro but my guess is he will come back for 1 more year of college. Between his struggles at this years NCAA Indoor Nat'l Champs and a few more losses
than he would like. He is making money now with endorsements so there is no rush. If he does turn pro at least I know that he wouldn't be overraced anymore trying to
rack up points for a Georgia Track Team that to be honest isn't gonna win any National Championship Titles as a School in my honest opinion.
 
Boling may beat Fanbullah over 200m this season but at the end of the day it doesnt really matter except in the essential races ie WC qualifying races. Also Fanbullah is not a "superfast closer" like all the announcers like to salivate over, he intentionally runs the 200m slower in the first 100m then goes fullspeed in the last 100-120m so it looks like he is this amazing speed endurance freak. If lanes were reversed it may have ended differently as I agree seeing where Fanbullah was in the race would have helped Boling.
