I caught an interview with Rod Marinelli, Lions head coach, after their loss yesterday, it was typical caste BS and is part of the reason I have little hope for the game. The Lions started 6-2 but finished 1-7. They basically fell apart. The interview went something line this:
Interviewer: Coach, that was another tough loss, what do you think was the reason for the 2nd half downturn?
Marinelli: same reasons as always, dropped passes, missed tackles, blown assignments and too many penalties.
Interviewer: How do you fix that for next year?
Marinelli: We have to get faster, we have to go out and get guys that are faster.
WTF????? Can anyone tell me how getting "faster" is going to solve any of the problems he mentioned? Is this guy a retard or does he think everyone else is. Was he reading from a script or what? Speed is NOT the teams problem and any idiot can see that.
And BTW his comments were not racial in that the team has an all black defense, unless he wants to put Furrey even more in the background then he already is. Perhaps he wants a "faster" o-line filled with black sumo lineman, or maybe he wants the TE's all to be black.
But coaches mindless fixation on "speed" and the idea that only black players have it, is why the caste system lingers on. I wish the interviewer asked the simple question, Coach how is speed going to help with the dropped passes, missed tackles, penalties and blown assignments?
