It may not happen in his rookie season because he only began playing football in 2009, but don't be surprised if Margus Hunt becomes a dominant NFL defensive end in 2014 or 2015.

Hopefully the Bengals don't move him to outside linebacker because Hunt can dominate the line of scrimmage. Cincy already has a strong d-line, which can work in Hunt's favor as he won't have to worry about double teams early on.

This kid is impressive. He learned English by watching American movies in Estonia and now speaks with almost no trace of an accent. His physical measurables are out of a video game, a blend of height, strength and speed never before seen. He has a great work ethic and wants to excel. The key will be learning to leverage his height to his advantage. My guess is that he will make a lot of NFL sumos look like the slow-footed lardasses they are. Looking at this highlight film it appears all of the big plays shown where a determination can be made, are against sumos.

Here's a clip of Margus rep'in out 385 on the bench press. Yet, he's hardly given an opportunity to play, despite being the best (overall) athlete on the team. Meanwhile, overhyped Ansah starts (& underperforms) for Detroit. And the DWFs deny there's a caste system.

When the Bengals have been rotating other ends in besides the two starters, they've been using the legendary Wallace Gilberry rather than Hunt. Guess poor Margus, who became fluent in English from watching Western movies, just isn't bright enough to pick up his team's "complicated" defense.

I feel sorry for Hunt and Rex Burkhead being on a team that will likely completely screw them over.

Hunt will turn 27 in July. After a year of not using him, the Bengals better let Margus play this year after drafting him in the second round or else he'll be written off as a bust. There's no reason not to give him plenty of playing time after Michael Johnson signed a big contract with Tampa.

Margus Hunt Set for Big Jump?

With Michal Johnson out of the picture, all eyes turn to Margus Hunt — the freakish SMU product the Cincinnati Bengals selected in the second round a year ago.

At 6’8″ and 280 pounds, Hunt has clearly been Cincinnati’s insurance policy if the front office could not work something out with Johnson. While a bit raw from a football sense, Hunt has the physical prowess simply in need of the proper mold to succeed at the pro level.

Former defensive coordinator and now Minnesota Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer is one who believes Hunt is in for a bit sophomore jump, according to Geoff Hobson of the team’s website:

“Those guys have a good team. That’s a good defensive team,” Zimmer said. “They’ll be fine. (Wallace) Gilberry is good. I think Margus Hunt will take a big jump. They’ve positioned themselves we’ll for a long time.”

“Yeah, we’ve talked some. Those are good players. He’ll do fine,” Zimmer said. “He’s got a good defensive team there. He helped me with protections and he did a good job with the linebackers.”

While not eye-opening in any regard, it has to be reassuring to hear that Zimmer believes Hunt will still take a big step — without him there.

As far as concerns this offseason go, that had to be high on the list. Would the defense, without the guidance of Zimmer, still play at a high level? Would some of the project or rehab players continue their successful play without Zimmer leading the way?

Zimmer himself believes Hunt will still thrive under new coordinator Paul Guenther. That’s a big co-sign, and it meshes well with what we already know about Hunt. Not many should expect Hunt to explode on his own, as a rotational role with the likes of Wallace Gilberry and possibly a rookie makes sense at this point.

But Hunt flashed last year as he was granted more playing time. If it continues and Zimmer is right, it is easy to understand why the Bengals were comfortable with letting Johnson get away. Similar production at a fraction of the cost keeps free cap space relatively high, which in turn means guys like Vontaze Burfict and A.J. Green will stick around for the long haul.

Oh, and it also means Hunt is the next successful gamble at defensive end who turns into a pretty solid player. Not a bad deal overall.

Hunt has had a year to acclimate to the league. It's time to stick him in the lineup and leave him there.

If, with Hunt's tremendous athleticism, the Bengals don't give him an opportunity to play it will only be because Hunt is white.

I agree. I keep hearing about how all these black athletes play and start in the college ranks, NFL, NBA, etc. for years based on their "potential" and "raw talent" however, when a white player (such as hunt) is said to have "raw talent," they don't play at all, or are "eased in to the lineup," their coaches citing the need for them to "develop," yet will often lose their jobs over playing blacks with this "raw talent" all the time. This, my friends, is the Caste System in action yet again.

Just like Brian Leonard, Jacob Hester, and Toby Gerhart, Hunt was drafted so that he could be buried. This rigged NFL is such an obvious joke.

Sure hope Hunt (doesn't seem like an Estonian name) can bust out next year.
I consider him sort of a personal find as I'd never heard of him when first watched him in a college game. Just hope he has the inner fire to match his talent.

What would have been interesting is if the Texans had drafted Hunt and paired him with Watt at defensive end. Hunt has the athleticism to develop into an impact player, if he ever got the opportunity.

By the way, Hunt holds the NCAA record for blocked field goals with 10. He did this despite never having played high school football and walking onto his college program.
