NBA Summer League has just got under way, and one of our guys has already lit the place afire! impressive blurbs...

A day after the top two pupils from the class of 2007 received less-than-spectacular grades, Belinelli looked like the valedictorian of the NBA Summer League presented by adidas.

The forward, who was selected by the Warriors with the 18th pick of last week's draft, scored with the type of simplicity normally reserved for fathers playing one-on-one in the driveway against their young children.

In a performance that is sure to be talked about for many summers to come, Belinelli lit up the Hornets defense for 37 points. He connected on 14-of-20 shots from the floor, including 5-of-7 from 3-point range, to help the Warriors earn a 110-102 win.

While his shooting obviously got all of the attention Saturday, Belinelli showed that he has other skills. He grabbed five boards and handed out a couple of assists in his 40 minutes on the floor.

"This was different than what I'm used to," Belinelli said. "There wasn't much defense. I like to play with a fast pace and I can also pass and rebound."

other notable performances include #1 pick Greg Oden picking upmore fouls than points and rebounds combined: 10 fouls, 6 points, and 2 rebounds.

also, #2 pick Kevin Durant was less than impressive. he scored 18 points, but it took 17 shots and 8 free throw attempts to do it. he also only snared 1 rebound and ZERO assists in 30 minutes of action. somehow, that stat line leads to this headline: Durant Impresses in Loss to Mavericks

some of our less appreciated guys have been doing well, though. Louis Amundson, an un-drafted 6-9 pogo-stick from UNLV is averaging 2 blocks per game, and is showing flashes of rebounding greatness. he had 11 boards in his most recent game, more than doubling the next highest player that saw action.

point guard Jose Juan Barea led the Mavs to the win over Durant's team, totaling 14 pointson just 8 field goal attempts and 3 ft attempts, 9 assists, and ZERO turnovers. he even added 2 rebounds. not bad for a cat who is only 6-0.

I think Belinelli will become a starter sometime this season now that Jason Richardson has moved on to Charlotte. I could see GS moving either Steven Jackson or him to SF. Good luck to him this year!

Breaking NEWS for Belinelli:

Corey Maggette is OUT for a while due to injury. This means more playing time for
our Italian pizzano here. Keep in mind though that this might be very similar to the Redick situation.

But unlike Redick, Marco Boy here has been producing, scoring in DOUBLE DIGITS in
3 of 4 games where he has gotten SIGNIFICANT playing time.

Stay tuned for any further development in this interesting situation.

He's also shooting 50% from the floor this year. Even Rotowire and Yahoo were saying good things about his play of late. Hopefully they'll keep playing him a lot when Maggette gets back.

Marco has 25 points already at the end of the 3rd quarter on 18 shots tonight against Atlanta. This guy is mad efficient. Hopefully GS will start him now; even when Monta Ellis and Corey Maggette come back from injury. Marco is playing like a stud. Marco also has 4 assists and as I said there is still 12 minutes of playing time left in this game!

Edited to say: Marco finished with 27 points on 21 shots. He shot 11-21 from the field and also dished out 6 assists and had two steals in GS's loss to Atlanta. He only had 3 rebounds though and had 4 turnovers, but with his two steals and 6 assists, I think 4 turnovers isn't so bad. This guy could turn into a premier guard in the league!Edited by: ToughJ.Riggins

Belinelli earns his spot in rotation

John Shea, Chronicle Staff Writer

Friday, December 19, 2008

(12-19) 04:00 PST Atlanta --

For several reasons, Marco Belinelli is getting more playing time this season.

He's more comfortable. He's producing more. The roster is thinner. His coach says he's a better fit in the Warriors' new offense.

Belinelli provided another reason at Thursday's practice. "I'm a better basketball player than last year," he said.

Belinelli averaged 2.9 points in 7.3 minutes as a rookie, but emerged in recent games to join Don Nelson's rotation. Wednesday in Indianapolis, he scored 21 points in 38 1/2 minutes, both career highs, and made 5 of 8 three-point shots while collecting four assists and four rebounds.

"He's much more of an effective player than before with what we're trying to do offensively," said Nelson, who's emphasizing more of a drive-and-dish game, which means more touches for Belinelli. "He's worked his way into the rotation because of his play right now. Not only can he shoot, but he can make plays."

Meantime, Belinelli continues to work on his defense, hardly his strong point.

"I worked over the summer on my defense," he said. "I can take down rebounds. I can make baskets. I can create for my teammates. I can shoot. But when I go on the court, first and foremost, I want to be aggressive on defense. Especially now. The team needs defensive rebounds."

Marco had 22 points tonight; shooting 7-17 from the floor, but only 4-11 from downtown. If he can improve his 3 point shooting a little more he will be an absolute star in this league.

Marco also shot 4-4 from the charity stripe and had 4 assists and 2 steals. A bonus to this game is that Marco's great game helped to beat the Celtics tonight 99 to 89. Steven Jackson kicked in 28 points, but this team seamed to share the ball well to divide up the scoring tonight with Crawford out with a groin pull. GS needs better passing and defense, not more scoring, and I hope Crawford doesn't hog the ball when he comes back taking too many shots from Marco.Edited by: ToughJ.Riggins

Marco had 23 points on a mere 12 shots tonight in a win against Toronto. This guy could be a future all-star SG! He's that good, unfortunately he just started coming on late this year. Marco also had 6 assists and only 2 turnovers tonight.

Marco is becoming a stud SG right before our eyes!

This is becoming consistency; so from now on I'll only report if he goes buck wild!

The Best part about Marco Belinelli is that he only 22 years old, just like his teammate Andris Biedrins. His upside chances is many time better right than his White American counterpart J.J. Redick.

He will make-up for J.J. Redick's demise, go Marco "Rocky" Belinelli!!!
