CHICAGO - For all the fun Peyton Manning had slaying demons and living dreams in Indianapolis on Sunday, the cold reality will come into focus as the celebratory hangover clears.

If he doesn't win the Super Bowl now, if he doesn't best the stumbling, inconsistent Rex Grossman in the big game, then all the positives of vanquishing the New England Patriots and Tom Brady will be lost.

Manning will never do enough to sate the Wetzels of the world. Peyton embodies everything Don Wetzel and the rest of his caste supporting dopplegangers have been fighting to destroy for the past 30 or so years, namely; the tall, strong, successful white male sports hero.

May Peyton throw many touchdowns and win several Super Bowls.

I would not dismiss this article. I read somewhere that Rex Grossman is the least capable QB to reach the Super Bowl since Tony Eason with the 1985 Patriots (blown out by the Bears in Super Bowl XX).

Past history indicates that the Colts should win, they have the best passer of the era, who has shattered the passing records. Bart Starr, Roger Staubach, Terry Bradshaw, and Joe Montana were collectively 12-1 in Super Bowls.

However, we should remember Super Bowl XIV between the Steelers and the LA Rams. The Rams had a 9-7 regular season in the then-weak NFC West. Pittsburgh was going for their fourth SB win. With starter Pat Haden injured at mid-season, the erratic Vince Ferragamo started for the Rams.

Ferragamo did have excellent passing ability when hot, and he looked better than Terry Bradshaw for three quarters, putting the Rams ahead 19-17. In the last period, Bradshaw hit two long bombs, and Ferragamo threw a critical interception, as the Steelers won 31-19.

Hopefully, Peyton Manning will have one of his best games. The HOF QB's mentioned above did in Super Bowl appearances.

Grossman gets 1/10 the criticism of Manning. The difference is the criticism of Grossman is justified.

How so? All of the talking heads in the media were calling for him to be benched, despite the fact that he really hadn't played all that poorly (streaky yes, poorly no) If Grossman were black, he would have already been annointed superstar status (especially with reaching the superbowl) Instead, he gets the Joey Harrington treatment

Grossman is the definition of streaky. He deserves the criticism he recieves. Who wants a QB that can be a turnover machine one day and touchdown machine the next? Consistency is one of the primary attributes of any good player, especially a QB.

Grossman is short, he needs to be rolled out of the pocket more. He throws incredible deep balls, some of the prettiest around, but his short routes get jumped easily. Let's be honest too; this is his first full season, he's had little more playing time than a rookie.

I believe this is Grossman's first year starting all 16 games because his career has been injury plagued so essentially he is a rookie but none of the media guys ever comment on that.

I would like Manning to win because he is the antithesis of what all these sports writers want playing QB.
