Magomed needs to work on his defense, he didn't have a very good round one.

However, he looked sharp in round two and closed the show with another KO.

He's now 13-0 with 13 KOs.

Atlas is one obsene f*ck. Did anybody ever give this scum a beating and shut his mouth ?
Who's this guy and who does he think he is ?
Last time he kept babbling about his "trainer" life and his daughter like we care, it was so embarassing the espn presenter had to interrupt him.

What is the general consensus about this guy in America ?

Well, as I had a feeling it would be, lastnight's heavyweight match was just a veiled attack on the division. They take Magomed (who is not perticularly fast anyway) and match him with a natural super middleweight knowing the Cuban could land at will, but could do no damage to Abdusalamov. Plus, he would have Magomed missing a lot and looking off balance for a few rounds. Making Magomed look slow and cumsy until he could catch the little fast guy. Also they made no point of the fact that Rodriguez was unbeaten and an amateur standout.

And adding to this propaganda, they had the Cuban's foul-proof protector (they are ajustable) tied under his belly, so it would protrude even more while Teddy and the other talking head acted bored with the fight. It was all good propaganda.

He was getting hit way too much in round one. Yes, he definitely needs to improve that defense. The fat tub he was fighting was actually fighting at 178 in August 2010. He put on 65 pounds of pure fat since then! Mag has a Dagestani (they are not really Russian, they are from Dagistan) cousin who may be even better than he is, Magomedrasul Medzhidov.

Jason Pettaway (11-0) will be Magomed's next opponent on March 17.

This is not an easy fight. As an amateur, Pettaway made it to the US national finals.

It was all good propaganda.

And Magomed said in an interview they were jerking him around before the fight. He was repeatedly told he'd be up next, only for it to be delayed over and over again. After several false starts, he even dozed off just before the fight. And at the last minute, they changed it from an 8 round fight to a four rounder.

My thoughts on Magomed Abdusalamov and his last fight (KO 2 Rodriguez):

Well, obviously, Abdusalamov can hit very hard. There's no denying that. Abdusalamov seemed a bit off in round 1, and this Cuban was able to catch him with some shots here and there.

Abdusalamov regrouped and absolutely pummeled the Cuban for the KO in round 2 however. Overall, a decent performance I think.

Taking some shots in round 1 is not necessarily a bad thing. And this Cuban, though he did appear noticeably fat, he appeared to have some decent skills and came out swinging.

The 2nd round told the whole tale of the fight, which was the Cuban collapsing under Magomed's first real attack.

I'm not going to dismiss or write off Magomed based on this performance, rather, I'd like to see more of Magomed before making a final opinion.

I will say that Magomed obviously had tremendous power, and truthfully, *that alone* will take him far in the division, especially postKlitschkos.

Overall, I thought Magomed looked OK. I'd like to see more of his future fights before forming a solid opinion on him. I thought he looked alright in the fight, I'd give a B- grade.

Sometimes when a guy takes some punches, and comes back to win by KO the next round. That is a good thing, because it shows he can deal with adversity and deal with a "live" opponent.

I thought it was a decent performance from Magomed. Yes, there's room for improvement (there always is, unless you're Wlad or Vitali Klitschko - lol), but overall I thought he looked good.

ALSO, the Cuban came out swinging. Had the Cuban simply fought in a shell (like many opponents do) it would have been much more one sided.

Finally, if you REALLY watch round 1, you'll notice it was about an evenly scored round. The Cuban maybe slightly got the better of the action. But Magomed as well was able to land some shots. Magomed's timing was much better, and he didn't blow his whole load in round 1 like the Cuban did.

Magomed defeats his African-American opponent Pettaway by TKO 4.

The Sky commentators were upset with the referee, because they thought he should have stopped the fight sooner.

There was no reason for the fight to be allowed to continue after the knockdown. Pettaway was a bloody mess and although he was very determined in first round, the fight had been taken out of him by the 3rd.

Magomed Abdusalamov Runs Over Jason Pettaway - It’s Gonna Be Fun Watching This Guy!

By James Slater - On the big show at Madison Square Garden at the weekend, heavyweight terror Magomed Abdusalamov kept his prefect record, as was “extended” into the 4th-round by the previously unbeaten Jason Pettaway. Scoring a quite brutal 4th-round TKO (that could have been stopped far sooner than it was had the ref been 100-percent on the ball), “Mago” improved to 14-0(14)..

Previously only taken past the opening round on three occasions, the Oxnard-based Russian soon had 31-year-old Pettaway of West Virginia, now 11-1(8) in a bloodied state. Only Pettaway’s courage kept him in the fight; the action one-sided from the 2nd session on.

30-year-old Abdusalamov isn’t the prettiest fighter to watch, and his defence sometimes lets him down. Critics have also pointed to the Russian’s clumsiness and claim that this will be his undoing when he faces an elite heavyweight. However, it cannot be denied how Magomed has real power in either fist, nor can it be denied that he is a whole lot of fun to watch. Naturally aggressive and always craving the KO he has so far achieved each time out, the prospect/contender is good enough for his team at Sampson Boxing to have taken chances with him: Pettaway was, after all, an unbeaten and largely unknown and therefore possibly dangerous fighter.

Another good thing about the oft-crude yet always brutal southpaw is the fact that he is being kept very busy. Abdusalamov has now had two fights this year and is already thirsty for more action (“I’d fight every two or three weeks if I could,” Mago told ESB last year). But will the latest “beast from the east” get the fights he and his team want? There have already been suggestions from Sampson Boxing that certain name fighters want nothing to do with their latest find.

This, of course, is what happens when a heavyweight terror emerges on the scene. Again, his critics say that the first time Abdusalamov gets in there with a proven, classy boxer (say an Eddie Chambers or even a Kevin Johnson), he will be outboxed, taught a lesson and exposed. To this, though, Magomed says “bring ’em on!”

For as long as he’s fighting - whilst he remains an unbeaten, streaking heavyweight hungry for success especially - “Mago” will be a genuinely fun fighter to watch. He may have his faults, but some fans, those of the heavyweight division in particular, will take power and excitement over technique and dullness every time. Abdusalamov provides both.

Just watched the Abdusalamov-Pettaway fight, here`s my thoughts:

First of all credit to Jason Pettaway
. This Negro gave a great fight, and gave a courageous effort in this KO loss. He took a god damn beating and I thought in the 2nd round some of those punches he took were extremely brutal. Credit to him, he deserves it for giving a courageous effort and staying in the fight so long. I feel many other boxers would have quit in his position and taking those punches.

This fight actually reminded me of Pavlik KO 8 Zertuche back in the late 2000s. That was an extremely brutal beating with a lot of heavy punches, similar to this fight but on a smaller scale.

I`m very impressed with Magomed, and he deserves full credit for this win against a very decent fighter in Pettaway. Magomed rightfully, along with Denis Boytsov, David Price, Vyacheslav Glazkov, and Negro Seth Mitchell is one of the best up and comers at heavyweight.

Magomed`s boxing style actually reminds me of Kelly Pavlik of 2005, 2006, 2007, and 2008. He is extremely aggressive, always coming forward, throws VERY heavy punches. He is missing a jab that Pavlik had, but he makes up for that with better defense and head movement than Kelly.

The few question marks I have about Magomed are his speed, defense, and stamina. I do think he could be a little faster. He`s certainly not a `fast` fighter like Wlad Klitschko, David Haye, or even Denis Boytsov. Rather he is slower and more powerful. Thats not necessarily a bad thing though.

I also notice that his opponents have been able to land some shots on him in his fights. Mind you, thats hard to avoid if you are a slugger, aggressive fighter. Magomed appears to have an excellent chin and he will need that with his style. I do give credit to Magomed for his head movement though. Pettaway landed some shots buit they were negated by his movement.

Magomed is extremely powerful, and he also seems to be extremely intelligent in the ring. Ring Intelligence is the most important thing a fighter can possess. It comes with experience and some of it is innate. Joe Calzaghe and Vitali Klitschko are 2 guys that Id say have excellent ring intelligence. Abdusalamov appears to have it.

Overall I give Abdusalamov an A- for this performance.

I`d LOVE to see Abdusalamov fight Tyson Fury. That would be EXPLOSIVE, and winner would be a huge contender. Id also favour Abdu in that fight, but Fury has a decent chance at upset.

Stylistically, I would think a mover-puncher, tactical-puncher will give Magomed the most problems in boxing.

Wladimir Klitschko, Vitali Klitschko and David Price are 3 guys I would consider bad matchups for Magomed. They both move extremely well and have the power to hurt him.

On the contrary, someone like Seth Mitchell, Tyson Fury should brawl with Magomed and I would favour Magomed by KO in both those fights.

I see Magomed was 221 for this fight. That is just too small for today's heavyweights. Even excluding the Klitschkos, guys like Fury (260), Price (255), Dimitrenko (245) and others are gonna be just too big for him.

Strange, since he started his pro career at 260.

I actually think the weight loss is a good thing because the weight was probably not natural to his frame. I suspect he was over eating and maybe doing heavy weights. I do agree with his style of fighting he is probably too small to slay the elite giants, but size alone isn't a deterrent or Dimentrenko would have beaten Chambers. I think if he learns some shoulder rolls and learns to do what the prime Tyson did he can beat big heavyweights that aren't of the caliber of the K brothers.

He was carrying excess weight before. But 221 and he's too small! What about guys who naturally weigh just over 200? That's why boxing badly needs at least one more heavy weight division, but I don't expect anything fair or honest or logical in boxing.

He's moving up in the quality of opponents. Byarm has only lost once, by decision. I bet he knocks him out. I'm real impressed with this guy. Well, what's not to be? 14-0 all 14 by KO.
