Wow is he a nice looking runner and receiver! He'll probably need to add a good 10 pounds otherwise the NFL will typecast him as purely a third down scatback.
Max Borghi named to Doak Walker Award watch list
by Scott Cresswell
After a terrific freshman season alternating carries with running back
James Williams,
Max Borghi is primed for a breakout sophomore season. The folks in charge of awarding the Doak Walker Award (given to the nation’s top running back) appear to agree.
Yesterday the
Washington State Cougars ball carrier was named to the award’s pre-season watch list. This is a just a preliminary list of the running backs to watch for next season across the country and eight other running backs from the Pac-12 joined Borghi. The last Cougar to make this group was
Jamal Morrow in 2017.
Borghi put up 740 all-purpose yards and scored 12 touchdowns as a true freshman. He also caught 53 passes out of the backfield. He was named honorable mention Pac-12 freshman of the year.
Ten semifinalists for the award will be named in November with three finalists then being selected on November 20. The ultimate winner will be announced on December 12 on the Home Depot College Football Awards on ESPN. This is the first of what should be many Cougars on preseason award watch lists.
