"Wisconsin's Luke Swan is way faster than people give him credit for. He's easily one of the fastest receivers in the league." (p.45)


That's OK if you have underestimated University of Wisconsin senior wide receiver Luke Swan in the past. He's used to it.

Swan, 6-foot-1, 190 pounds, came to the Badgers as an unheralded walk-on from Fennimore, who supposedly was too small and too slow to be a receiver in the Big Ten Conference.

So, when Swan went into fall camp a year ago listed atop the depth chart, it seemed like a nice story, but almost no one expected it to last. It was supposed to be only a matter of time before Swan was overtaken by one of two true freshman receivers, Isaac Anderson or Xavier Harris.

Despite missing part of camp with an injury, Swan not only held on to the starting job, he finished third on the team with 35 catches for 595 yards, an average of 17 yards per reception that topped the team. He also tied for the team high with five touchdown catches.

With Wisconsin in contention for the national championship this year, Swan should have more attention coming his way.

If Wisconsin is on televison often and Luke Swan makes a lot of catches for big yardage and/or touchdowns, I wonder how the announcers will handle it. Will he have "deceptive speed", "a great work ethic", or what? Or will they just say that he is a terrific receiver with outstanding speed? I look forward to watching a Wisconsin game or two, and the BCS championship game would be ideal.

It seems like sometimes a white athlete has to have freakish athletic ability before the said white athlete's athleticism is mentioned. Matt Jones being the best example. So Luke Swan will be likely called a possession reciever with sneaky speed.

i had the opportunity to watch Luke Swan play last season in Wisconsin's bowl gamewin overArkansas.


Swan didn't put up big numbers, but it was only because his quarterback missed him on deep passes several times. he had Arkansas' top cover man (and reputed one of thebest cornerback's in the nation, though i disagree), and 2007 2nd round draft pick Chris Houston, beat all day.


Swan is obviously fast and agile, and incredibly quick. only Caste-blinded morons would see otherwise.

Luke is having a solid game today.
announcers repeatedly praised his big play ability, talking about how this so called posession receiver has the highest ypc average on a team (over 18 yards per catch!)

Luke got injured late in first quarter, let's hope it's nothing serious. he finished the game with 4 catches for 67 yards.Edited by: backrow

Luke is out for the year because of a severely torn hamstring, as reported on ESPN this morning.

Real bummer. Unfortunately, I think he would have ended up getting something like the David Anderson treatment, at best.
