Maybe I should have been more specific in where I thought his genius lies. In the genere of pop music, "Beat It" fused black pop music and white rock music like never before. The way song begins and vocals and who can ever forget Eddie Van Halen's guitar rift on that song. Today that song still holds its own.

I prefer Al Yankovic's version: "Eat It".

I think it's a good song, a "classic" but I don't know if I'd call it a "masterpiece" I reserve masterpieces for works of art that are timeless and I don't think pop songs classify as either works of art or timeless. Good song though but what did he do on it other then sing? Did he write the music? The lyrics? Just asking.

Michael Jackson was a mentally disturbed person. His self-hate was evident as he spent a fortune on numerous operations on his nose and skin to try to turn himself into a white man.

I was a fan of early Van Halen. I had their first five albums and saw them play 7 or 8 times from 1978- 1982. As I say, big fan. Ed VH playing on that Michael Jackson song alienated me as a fan. (Plus it was a mediocre solo, by VH standards!) As for melding black music with white music, what is that worth? Why would I want to incorporate once fraction of an ounce of manure in my bowl of ice cream? I don't need my white rock fused with something that is lesser. Then again, I confess, I am not an integrationist.

You say "MJ" had undeniable talent. As a dancer? That is of no value to me. As a vocalist? He was nothing special. As a songwriter? Who wrote his songs? Did he write ANY of the lyrics, without a ghostwriter? ANY of the music? Did he even play an instrument? Onstage or even in private? Quincy Jones produced Michael Jackson's albums -- so if the fusion of white and black styles is worth something to you, credit Quincy Jones.

I freely admit I am outside the pop-cultural loop on the Michael Jackson thing. Seeing the adulation for him (in the general public) is as baffling to me as seeing the outpouring of sheepodile tears for Princess Di. It is even more baffling for me to log onto a pro-white website and see posters who think of Michael Jackson's music as masterful.

On McCartney's next album Pipes of Peace there were two collaborations with Jackson, Say Say Say and The Man. A third collaboration was on Jackson's Thriller album, The Girl is Mine.

You really feel the Beat It solo by EVH is mediocre? Well, what can I say, I guess opinions vary.

As for seeign pro MJ comments here on CF, well, it's great to see that kind of balance here. I always like think of myself as a fair person. And with regards to MJ, I see both sides. He became a freakshow in his later years and in some ways, he's a very sad and tragic figure. To be honest, though, was it ever proven beyond any doubt that he was a pedophile? Some irresponsible parents let their kids stay with him, and there were certainly many odd scenes and occurances of him with kids, but what proof do we have that would show his guilt 100%?

But I personally liked his music, it's kind of an odd choice since I'm a die-hard heavy metal fan, but maybe that goes to show he did cross boundaries, who knows.

Maybe he'll find the peace in death that he never found in life.

I think it was Mick Jagger who said that Jackson made good pop music, but it was like the froth on the beer. By that I think Jagger meant enjoyable but lightweight, not much real substance. I agree.

When I was a kid, MJ was everywhere. I was there when "Thriller" mania was in full swing. We were all caught up in it. Keep in mind that when this was all going on (1983-84), political correctness had yet to wield its head on us and our society wasn't obsessive with being sensational and overanalytical.

It wasn't until the Pepsi/hair burning incident that things began to change. Then came the "Captain EO" oddity. Then all the stories about his orangutans, sleep chambers, plastic surgery, etc.

I liked his music to a considerable degree until after the release of "Bad" (1987). But even then, his music was predictable. There's so much talk in the press now about how "innovative" he was. I tend to think they're only speaking in terms of the physical. True, he incorporated rock elements in songs like "Beat It", but didn't Donna Summer do the same with "Hot Stuff" in 1979?

I feel the press surrounding his death is beyond the point of "enough already", but that will only be the opinion of this writer. Within a week or two, you will see the renaming of streets, schools, awards, skin bleachers, etc., in Jacko's honor.

I saw a picture of his farther and he only got the hair of a ******* with blue eyes and very light skin,his mother looked not like she had much white blood.looking to his parents pictures I think micael was like like 40% white.most of the time i am not far off of the real % admixture from people I know that did a admixture test.the most unbeleavable what I found out is that 5.5% of people in the us that counsideres hisself as a ******* or black african american doesm't have any black in them
