Walter was great in the preseason and continued it today in the limited playing opportunity he was given. He ended with 4/47 and a great 20 yard TD catch and run. He's tall, fast and has great hands. Sounds familiar if you follow white receivers at all. Let's hope the Bengals keep giving him more playing time. He is starter material.

Walter has been given a slight promotion from his former role of "White Special Teams Demon." Marvin Lewis has a little Tony Dungy in him apparently when it comes to white receivers. Will Walter's role expand from here, stay the same or return to WSTD? Stay tuned.

Walter can be a star if he is allowed to be.He has alot of talent and seems to have the hunger to get to the top.As always, will he be allowed to progress.I sure hope so.The Bengals haven't had a stud white wide receiver since Chris Collinsworth.

Here's a typical Caste System article. Walter is excluded from consideration as the Bengals' third wide receiver because he plays special teams!

Offensive and defensive starters play special teams all the time. Guess that was the best excuse thewriter and the Bengals could come up with. After all, none who read it will think to question its assumptions anyway. (relevant parts only reposted):

CINCINNATI | One week Kelley Washington's up, the next week he's down.

After getting zero catches at Cleveland, the Bengals wide receiver was deactivated for the first time in his three-year NFL career against Minnesota. His replacement, rookie Chris Henry, caught four passes for 45 yards.

Chad Johnson and T.J. Houshmandzadeh are Nos. 1 and 2. With rookie Tab Perry the top kickoff returner and Kevin Walter the left-side gunner in punt coverage on special teams, that leaves one wide receiver job up for grabs on game day.

Washington (6-3, 216) has outstanding physical tools, but Henry (6-4, 200) and Walter (6-3, 214) are showing more production. Walter has great hands and is the best downfield blocker in the running game. Henry is the fastest of the trio, but needs to secure the ball better. Holding it like a loaf of bread, he fumbled it and was thankful it bounced out of bounds.

Offensive coordinator Bob Bratkowski called the Washington-Henry debate "something we're going to deal with week to week. We'll have to make the decision based on what each week will bring us."

Back and forth. Active and inactive. That's Henry and Washington.

"I'm sure it's going to be like that," Washington said. "When they draft a guy, they want to see him play and give him some game experience. We play the same position. The other guys (Perry and Walter) make an impact on special teams. That's two slots right there. There are going to be some games where I'm going to have to swallow my pride and watch."

The Bengals want a speedy wideout to stretch the defense and draw double teams away from Johnson, making the passing game even more explosive. Henry could be that guy, but he must prove he can stay healthy.

"We hope Chris emerges and continues to grow into a good player," Bratkowski said. "He's a talented guy. We'll see in two-three years how much he grows into the NFL. If he does it right, maybe he is just touching the surface. If he doesn't do it right, maybe he's peaked out. It's up to him."

In limited playing time, Walter ended up as the Bengals second leading receiver with 4/65. All he does is produce. It's so obvious he's starter material, but the long, never-ending process of him becoming one -- if he ever does get the chance -- has to be painstakingly dragged out over a period of years. So pathetic.

Kevin Walter has signed an offer sheet with the Texans. If the Bengals do not match it they will be given a 7th round draft pick in the draft and Walter will become a Houston Texan. I think Walter will come in and be the number 2 wr because they have no one else to play opposite of Andre Johnson. Hopefully the Texans get a white TE like Fasono or Klopfenstein in the draft. Walter had a great playoff game against the Steelers. Hopefully he puts up 1000 yds this year and helps out Carr who has been the victim of a terrible o-line.

Your right that Houston has terrible receivers after Andre Johnson. Corey Bradford, its one of the great mysteries of the NFL how this hands of stone loser keeps his job year after year. He reminds me of James Thrash, Todd pinkston, James Patton, Reche Caldwell, Jabar Gaffney, Robert Ferguson, Reggie Williams, Justin Gage and the other bottom feeding black receivers who stink but keep their prominent positions in the passing game every year. If any of them were white and somehow got an opportunity they would quickly be branded a loser and told not to let the door hit them in the ass on their way out.

Bad news I just read an article that says the Bengals might try and match the 4 yr 6 mil deal Walter signed with the Texans. The main reason being Chris Henry's trouble with the law in Kentucky and in Florida. Though maybe if Walter goes back to Cincy it will be as a #3 WR if Henry can't get his legal issues solved. Here's question does anybody think Walter has a chance at starting along side Andre Johnson in Houston. I mean come on they got nobody at WR there but I don't follow the team enough to know for sure.

I think Walter would have a good chance at starting in Houston, they have no one and Walter has proven to be capable when called upon. I do not think the Texans would spend that money on a guy who would be relegated to 3rd or 4th wideout and ST ACE. If he stays in Cincinatti than he can work the Slot just fine. He is a big guy who is not afraid of going over the middle. Palmer to Walter would sound alost as good as Carr to Walter with the only difference being Walter would get more snaps with the Texans.

That is a hell of a long time. White Lightenings comments reminded me of the year Jeff Query led all Bengals receivers in receptions - and was rewarded by being cut!

Corey Bradford, who has been Houston's usual second receiver for a few years, signed a deal with Detroit today. That should increase Walter's chances of being #2 with the Texans if the Bengals don't match the deal Walter signed. David Carr has talent, he's had a terrible o-line in front of him and no receiving help after Andre Johnson. Walter is the kind of smart, sure-handed receiver that can help Carr develop. I don't ever see him being a starter in Cincinnati but he has a chance with Houston. I really hope Cincy lets him go.

Thats great news, Bradford signing with Detroit, so if Cincy doesn't match that would be great for Walter's chances of starting.

i wonder how much say the player has in these types of contract issues...if you were Walter, wouldn't the possibility of more PT be a huge bonus?

he's a tremendous physical specimen with size and speed rarely matched even in the NFL, so hopefully he'll finally get a chance to be more than just a WSTD.

This is just what we were hoping for!Draftdaddy had nothing but good things to say about him.He has good speed and great hands. He should hopefully end up being a starter. It's nice to see one of the guys we pull for maybe actually get a legitimate chance. There have been so many bad off season moves like the Rams keeping Bruce.

Glad to see Walter has the chance to win a starting WR role with the Texans.

Will he be given more of a chance than Kevin Kasper?

The Texans are trying to trade for Eric Moulds. Over the past 8 seasons Moulds has averaged 78 receptions and 1,065 yards. Other teams interested in trading for him are reportedly Denver, Philly and New England. If the Bills can't work out a deal with anyone Moulds will be released and become a free agent. The Broncos, Eagles and Patriots each have no white receivers at present, so let's hope Moulds ends up with one of them, because if he goes to Houston, Walter becomes the #3 WR there at best.

Still Walter being a #3 WR is better than what he would have been if he was still on the Bengals. Hopefully though Kevin will start and have a productive season.

Walter would of been a number 5 on the Bengals. Henry and Kelly Washington would have started in front of him.

Walter is bigger and probably faster than the inconistent, older Moulds. But, he doesn't have that one precious asset that is more important than any other to athletes at all levels of competition. Of course, I'm still waiting for Houston to upgrade that pathetic offensive line.

If Houston signs Moulds then they may use some black mediocrity as the third receiver and let Walter return to being a white special teams demon. None of the fans would know the difference.

As of now, Kevin Walter is Houston's number two receiver. He was last year too, before the Texans signed Eric Moulds, who had a poor year and was subsequently released. The team may again bring in a black journeyman to cover up for the "embarrassment" of having Walter second on their depth chart, plus they drafted black WR Jacoby Jones in the third round last month, but it's a situation worth following. Houston also has David Anderson, who saw a little action last year as a rookie.
