Spot on Don. The writer should have noted Jordy's tremendous speed during his prime.

The article echoes what I have been saying here for the past couple of weeks. Bringing back Jordy is a no brainer. Otherwise they would leave QB Carr left with no security whatsoever and doomed for failure. Carr ( underrated) is a QB the Raiders should build around and for the Raiders to jump up and perhaps make the playoffs next year they will need a player as solid and dependable as Jordy.

It will be interesting to see what moves the Raiders make next season. The draft will be the key. So if the Raiders keep Jordy around for at least another season and they draft one or two key white defensive players then I will know Gruden is on the right track. If they ditch Jordy and go whole hog caste with the draft I suspect Gruden's comeback coaching gig will shatter like glass.

Without Jordy the Raiders would have likely lost to Denver the other night.

Jordy Nelson appears to have a second Raiders season on tap. The longtime Packers wide receiver signed a two-year deal with the Raiders, but some speculation existed about the rebuilding team moving on after one season.

Jon Gruden confirmed Friday that Nelson will return next season. The Raiders also moved up a $3.6M Nelson roster bonus to be paid today rather than in 2019, Field Yates of ESPN.com tweets.

“If you watched Jordy play carefully the last four weeks when he’s been healthy, you see what he’s capable of doing, … I think you can even see better and better days ahead,” Gruden said, via Scott Bair of NBC Sports Bay Area (Twitter links). So yeah, he’ll be back. … Normally when you hand out a bonus for next year’s season, there’s a pretty good chance those guys are coming back.”

I saw Lance Alworth play on TV many times. Aside from being white, Nelson isn't like Alworth, much bigger, nowhere near as graceful. It's long been the custom to compare any fast white WR to Alworth even when there is almost no resemblance.

Our favorite commentator, Cris Collinsworth, in his rookie year with the Bengals, with justification, complained about always being compared to Lance Alworth just because he was white. Collinsworth wanted the press to compare him to contemporary James Lofton.

I love Jordy, but Lance Alworth is the gold standard for not just white wide receivers, but wideouts in general.

If Lance played today, he would absolutely dominate. World class speed (9.6 in the 100 yard dash equates to between 4.37 and 4.43 in the 40), decent height (6’0), and the best leaping ability I’ve ever seen.

His route running was amazing, and he caught everything. There is really no comparison.

And just a few years later he was recognized as the preeminent deep threat in the NFL. God am I going to miss him.

My favorite player over the past decade and the best White outside receiver since Lance Alworth. A huge trailblazer, not that it will make the slightest dent in the Caste System. I'll miss him a lot too. Pathetic that teams weren't lining up to sign him cheap to a one or two year deal to likely finish out his career. I'd like to think Aaron Rodgers wants to talk him out of retirement but the new managerial regime in Green Bay is hard-core Caste.

Affletes with his skill set would be playing somewhere on some roster in the NFL until age 40 no doubt...

Maybe he didn't want to be a gypsy running from team to team. I don't know anything about his personal life, but if he has young family or was recently married, moving from city to city can be drag on your psyche.

As others have stated Hundley and his T formation ability, plus the perpetual chaos in Oakland probably cost him a legitimate shot at the hall of fame and may have soured him on the game too.

Besides retiring at a fairly young age, whether voluntarily or involuntarily because there was no interest in him, the main factor that will likely keep Nelson out of the Hall of Fame is the fact that he served a racial apprenticeship despite being a second round draft choice and didn't become a starter until his fourth NFL season. The 2015 season lost to injury also hurt his stats.

Hundley locked in on Adams, so much so the Packers should have cut him and the dim bulb coach who week after week let him do stupid stuff and still called him an NFL QB.

Jordy and his wife have three young children (one biological, two adopted, all white), so that probably was a factor.

I'll miss seeing him play. Along with Wes Welker he was one of the two most important WRs from a Caste perspective.
