The Steelers struggled for years to complement Willie Parker and now Rashard Mendenhall with a power back.
Even though Bill Cowher at least had a white FB in Dan Kreider for years, he never let him carry the ball, and they certainly couldn't have considered John Kuhn for a backup TB/FB role, so they got rid of Kuhn.
Now Mike Tomlin and Bruce Arians would never dream of letting a white player stay on the roster at TB/FB. Hell, they won't even let WR Tyler Grisham play this year.
The Packers benefit once again from using white players at most positions on the field.
The "Wes Welker Effect" seems to have given white WRs a bit more of a chance in recent years.
Perhaps the "Peyton Hillis Effect" will give some others a chance in the NFL to carry the ball.
And, more importantly, it might convince at least a few more D-1 schools to recruit white runners, giving the NFL a little more depth at RB to choose from in the coming years.
Toby Gerhart needs to hang in there and show some perseverance like Hillis has on the way to becoming a dominant RB. Gerhart's chance will come as Adrian Peterson will get hurt soon enough.
