After watching Joe's highlights, it is mindblowing that this kid isn't a household name. Let's see: blazing, and I do mean blazing speed, strength, pass blocking/ability to pick up and neutralize blitzing defenders, catches the ball out of the backfield. Christ, the Rutgers receivers on the highlights were dropping easy catches left and right. The only thing that made me sick was seeing him line up as a fullback, while some half-assed, lesser talent "afflete" lined up behind him: they all ran tentatively, while Joe runs like a man possessed. No NFL corner would want to come up and have to take him on one on one: they would either get steamrolled, juked, or Joe would just blow by them. Why? Because they are all fundamentally unsound, while he is both technically and physically superior. Go Joe, and don't settle for fullback. Shut them all up.

Schiano owes Jersey Joe a lot. With his pro day times he will be a priority free agent in some teams training camp and might be a 7th round pick. It will be interesting to see if he is going to try out as a tailback a hybrid or pure fullback.
The racist slotting of Martinek by the media, the scouts, the draft "experts" and the NFL continues. There's just a little bit of cognitive dissonace in the excerpt below. Yeh, it's routine for big black RBs who can also run a 4.40 40 to be converted into fullbacks. Maybe "Leonardized" should be the term for quality White running backs who are forced to become fullbacks.

But off-the-field numbers recently caught the attention of NFL scouts.
Martinek ran a surprising 4.4 40-yard-dash at the Scarlet Knights' March 21 showcase, turning so many heads ESPN reporter Adam Schefter said via Twitter that the 2007 Hopatcong High School graduate was garnering extra attention.
Martinek said he didn't let the pro day success go to his head.
"For me, it's calmed down," he said. "All I've been doing is working out, keeping my body in shape."
To keep that ball rolling, Martinek said he's been working out recently with several former Scarlet Knights in the NFL. He said Brian Leonard, a 2007 second-round pick, has been a mentor.
Martinek has become a player in the mold of Leonard, currently a Bengals fullback, in that he can block, rush off tackle and serve as a short-range passing threat.

CBS sportsline updated their scouting report on Jersey Joe and they stated he has been bumped up to late pick/PFA. I just wish that he had played tailback this year and rushed for 1200+ yards. Good news. Martinek is apparently continuing his football careeer with the Parma, Italy team.
The NFL should give this man another chance. He's a tremendous athlete and now he has experience.

Man "Jersey Joe" Martinek was a good one!! Just reminiscing about him today. 6foot 220lbs star HS RB with 4.4 speed, but for some reason coaches always wanted to convert him to Fullback or not play him at all. Finally gets chance at Rutgers and he rushes for 1200 yards senior year. Only to be purged by NFL.. This is the sports caste system folks.. It's crazy to think Rutgers has produced him and Leonard in recent years, the last white RBs they'll ever have.
