That article's stats are incorrect. Alexander shot 41.6% from the field. The 34.8% number was his 3 point percentage. 41.6% for a SF rookie isn't all that bad- when you're adjusting to the NBA. Someone should leave a comment under the article correcting that.

Out of my three favorite college basketball players in the past 5 years(Redick, Alexander, Morrison) only one is succeeding so far in the NBA. Redick is having a decent season finally, Morrison is probably done for good, and Alexander is struggling himself.

Joe Alexander rights were traded to the Chicago Bulls today. I really am not crazy about this move. I know Milwaukee gave up on him a little early but I wanted him to go to a team that actually really wanted him. The Suns were one team that worked him out before the Draft and there were other teams as well. I just don't see him playing in Chicago either other than a few token minutes. His career is on life support and he is probably the most athletic white guy in the nba. He needs a team to belive in him and play him quality minutes now that he is over his injury. Hopefully it will some how work out in Chicago. Good luck to him.

You know it's a wrong world we are living in when a average athlete like Eric Gordon gets to compete in a dunk-off and a freakish athlete like Joe Alexander sits at home. I wish him good luck to him in Chicago.

Too bad he didn't go to the Nets. They definitely would have played Alexander to find out what he can bring this year. What a bad team the Nets are! Alexander has loads of potential. One of the most freakishly athletic forwards to EVER play in the NBA!

I wish he would have went to the nets too TJR. He has played around 2 minutes in the last 6 games. The Bulls don't want him. He was just thrown into the package deal. My only hope is that some team next year will sign him for the minimum salary and give him a chance to play. I think Alexander had much less coaching and total playing time than almost anyone currently in the NBA since he grew up in China and didn't play any organized basketball until HS when his family moved back to the US.

Maybe a few years in Europe where he would receive more playing time to sharpen his basic skills and basketball IQ would be the way to go.

He will never see playing time if he tries to remain in the NBA since he is a white who was automatically labeled a bust before he ever took the court in an NBA game.

He has all the "athletic" ability white BB players always lack according DWFs and blacks. He just need to improve his basketball IQ.

Again, the double standard here is glaring. What black first round draft picks have EVER been treated like Alexander and Adam Morrison? Alexander was a star in college, and certainly should have been the kind of player a team builds a team around. Instead, he was never even allowed to start. The same thing goes for Morrison- probably THE star player the year he came out, a big guy that would have been the unquestioned cornerstone of the team that drafted him, if he'd only not been cursed with a skin pigmentation disorder.

With all the awful teams in the NBA, and all the horrible players on their rosters, you mean to tell me none are interested in bringing in a Adam Morrison? And the team that "wants" Alexander plays him even less than the Bucks did? Kind of like the Lakers trading for Morrison and then never playing him. Why would any organization do something like that? Doesn't that cast doubt on the legitimacy of the entire league?

If the likes of these white athletes cannot be considered "star" material, for a team to build around them, then I think it's pretty obvious this applies to all future white players.

My thoughs exactly Bigunreal. Even JJ Reddick had to wait 3 years before playing much and they still will rarely start the kid. They take guys that were studs in college and put them into their place. The teams will never give them half the chance that they gave to guys like Kwame Brown and countless others. Morrison, Reddick and many others should be starters. Alexander should be able to be one of the first guys off the bench with a chance to start in a year or two. They just don't want to develop white nba talent on the average. It's a very sad situation.

Morrison got chances to play in his rookie year and the beginning of his 2nd year before tearing a ligament in his knee- he was just starting to show some signs of NBA offensive potential when he tore his knee.

But I agree with you guys that Redick and Alexander (so far) were relegated to the bench in their first couple years and should have been developed from the get go! Redick has turned into a good player, as of this year!

Alexander is in a troubling situation with the Bulls. They are fighting for one of the last playoff spots and are not in a good situation to start playing their new arrival Alexander (with lots of untapped potential), but the Bucks should have been playing him at the beginning of this year!

Alexander just has to get his confidence in his shot up and improve his average ball handling and he could be a star!

BTW, Alexander shot 41.6% from the field his rookie year. That's not too shabby for an NBA SF/PF "AS A ROOKIE". Ideally he'd want to get that up into the mid to high 40s and get to the line a bit more!

Alexander got PT tonight as the Bulls were getting blown out by the Magic without Derrick Rose and Luol Deng. Alexander quickly picked up 4 fouls, one of which shouldn't have been a foul- and announcers Reggie Miller and some other guy kept saying he attended the wrong combine and should have been at the NFL combine. They seemed to be mocking him saying he was playing ball like Julius Peppers. Three fouls on him appeared to be legit, but he was just playing tough ball. He dove for a loose ball and picked up a foul which was a foul you can live with. He did make too bad fouls and was just 1-3 from the floor, but didn't play all too bad. His +/- was better than everyone on the team, but two guys. Another guy on the team picked up fouls at the same rate as Joe, fouling out in about 18.5 minutes, and wasn't ripped into by the announcers the same way.

Then Alexander was in the picture when Gortat dunked near him and Miller goes "and there's our man Alexander in the picture again!"
Alexander needs confidence or he may wind up like Darko. The announcers and dwfs ripping him above and beyond how they would a young black player won't help! Rant over...

The constant ripping om Alexander was annoying although in a way it was a compliment on Alexander's raw athleticism to say he should have attended the NFL combine. How can Alexander be considered a bust this early into his NBA career when he was a lottery pick just two years ago? I sincerely hope he lands somewhere next year where he will be a solid part of some team's rotation.Edited by: guest301

Joe Alexander would have benefited from staying his senior year at WVU to polish his game.

He needs to stay healthy and take a big step forward next year-his 3rd in the NBA-or he will rightly be considered a failed #1 draft choice.

I hope some team still gives him a chance. The last two games, the Bulls have played him under 30 seconds each game. The majority of the rest of the games the kid hasn't even played. All for a Bulls team that is horrible and going no where fast. Give the kid some minutes. He has to be in the dumps mentally & emotionally right now.

Hopefully, the Bulls will play Alexander when their chance at the playoffs seem hopeless. Alexander showed lots of signs of potential in his last year at WVU and is arguably the most athletic forward- measurements wise- to ever workout at the NBA combine!

Joe Alexander signed with the Charlotte Hornets. This could end up being a good situation for him. Even though he won't start, he should see quality time and it will get him a chance to get his game back. Hopefully he can impress with the Hornets and maybe in a year or two go to a team where he can be a starter.

Some news on Joe Alexander. I think the lockout hurt his chances along with alot of other young players. He signed to play pro ball in Russia. I can't say I blame the guy. Money talks and the NBA just continued to overlook him. I really feel he could have made an impact if he would have went to the right team and they gave him more time. You cannot improve when you barely play and bounce around from team to team. Good luck to Jumping Joe. I sure would have loved to have seen him in the NBA Dunk Contest but I hope it goes well for him overseas.

Yeah, I saw that. This lockout is really hurting white players that move from team to team. Chris Quinn also signed overseas. Then we have Kristic, Mozgov, and countless Europeans also leaving. The league is gonna get darker by the time the next season comes around.

Here is an article about Joe Alexander from about a month ago. This kid was called the most athletic prospect in the draft and he's still not on an NBA roster. Hopefully he continues to develop his game and proves his worth in the NBA. He truly has Kobe Bryant type athleticism.

SOUTH PADRE ISLAND, Texas -- Joe Alexander was the eighth overall pick by the Milwaukee Bucks just two seasons ago after having a standout year with the West Virginia Mountaineers as a junior.

Two years later, though, and Alexander is having to show NBA scouts he's worth an NBA roster spot once again while playing for the Texas Legends at the D-League Showcase.

In two games at the Showcase, with scouts and executives from many NBA teams in attendance, Alexander was able to put together two solid performances. In his first game, against the New Mexico Thunderbirds, the 24-year-old scored 21 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and blocked six shots while playing 45 minutes. In Thursday's contest against the Iowa Energy, Alexander scored 18 points, grabbed 11 rebounds, dished eight assists and added two blocks in a 119-114 victory.

Though those numbers aren't typically what one expects out of an uber-athletic small forward like he was projected to be by the Bucks, Alexander's been playing power forward on his trek back to the NBA for Nancy Lieberman's Legends. On the season, he's averaging 20.0 points, 10.9 rebounds and 3.5 assists while playing over 43 minutes per game.

"I was playing power forward down in New Orleans with the Hornets (in training camp) so when I got here, I was ready to play the four," Alexander told FanHouse. "It's been a great year. The coaches have done a great job of putting me in positions where I can be successful.

"As a player, you can be working on your own game individually and then you just hope that the coaching staff puts you in position to utilize those skills."

The coaching staff has certainly put him in a good position as one NBA scout noted last week that the position change is exactly what he needed.

"He looks way more comfortable as a four, and should never again be tried as a three. It wasn't fair to him," the scout said. "Where he was under-skilled and looked lost as a three, he looks skilled and comfortable as a four that can make plays off the dribble and pick and pop. He is slightly undersized at 6-foot-8, but he is strong and very athletic. There's no question he is an NBA bench player."

While there were certainly many scouts in attendance that were intrigued by Alexander at the Showcase -- including Legends owner Donnie Nelson who had Alexander in for a workout with his Mavericks last week before signing Sasha Pavlovic -- Alexander says he isn't focused on earning a call-up.

"You know, I know there are specific things NBA teams want to see me do to get a call-up but really, I don't even think about it," Alexander said. "I've just been going out and keep trying to play my game while doing what I know how to do and help this team win.

"I think if the team wins, in the end, everybody wins."
