Thome hit a HR tonight to finally pass Sosa on the all time HR list. Next up is K. Griffey Jr.

Speaking of K Griffey Jr., does anybody remember a commercial he was in in the early 90s. I seem to remember that period as being particulary loaded with worship of negro athletes (jordan, KG jr, Bo Jackson, etc.). Anyway, IIRC, the gist of the commercial was KG Jr and some other guy were trying to pick up a couple of white chicks at a bar and the other guy says "KGjr has a lifetime .300 BA" and the uppity KG jr corrects him really quick "No, it's .301". That commercial always pissed me off. The worship of these negroes in the media is just unreal, and it's just so typical of the arrogance so predominate in the negro species.

And here you have a guy like Jim Thome who plays the game the right way, never brags or boasts, and is always humble, and what is the thanks he gets? Virtually no media attention at all for being the greatest HR hitter of his time, and one of the best of all time, with only Ruth really being better if you consider HRs per AB and you take out the steroid cheaters.

knightedsoldier5000,

I don't remember that particular commercial, but I do remember all the 90's worshipping of black athletes and now believe it or not, it is even more prevelant. It's difficult to find many white athletes, (other than golf), in positive athletic commercials.

On Jim Thome; Congratulations to him and I find it astounding that anyone would question as the media does so often that he should be a Hall of Famer. He should get in first ballot.

I like the Ruth comparison, but I will always bring up Mark McGwire in these conversations also, because and I've said this many times on CF, MM if you remember had 49 HR's in his rookie season, still a MLB record in 557 AB's for 11.3 HR/AB ratio. At the time McGwire was I believe a mere 185lbs. His career HR/AB is 10.6, the MLB record. Ruth HR/AB 11.7. McGwire was also injured throughout his career.

Yes McGwire probably took steroids, but his amazing HR/AB was there way before steroids. He should have hit over 800 HR's with or without steroids. He basically played only 11 full years and hit 501 HR's for a 45.5 HR's/YR AVG. He won ROY, a World Series, was a 12 time All-Star, and won a Gold Glove! He should be a Hall of Famer if they let Barroids and Sosa in.

I believe McGwire may have started taking steroids for recovery purposes, whereas Bonds and Sosa may have took them because of their jealousy of McGwire, possibly.

I'm obviously a McGwire fan and people who knew him said his HR power was legendary from around age 13 to his college days at USC!

I hope Jim gets going again soon. A herniated disc makes his accomplishments all the more impressive. A herniated disc can be extremely painful and debilitating.

NEW YORK—The Baltimore Orioles have placed designated hitter Jim Thome on the 15-day disabled list because an MRI showed that he had a herniated disc in his back.

Some tough breaks but also causes for celebration this year for Jim. Didn't get much playing time the first half of the year, then was on the DL for a couple months but he still managed to pull ahead of the thug Sosa on the all time list. At 612 HRs, you have to wonder if Thome comes back next year if he has a shot at catching that punk Griffey at 630 on the all time HR list. 18 Hrs would be a tremendous feat at 42 years old, but I know he could do it if he stayed healthy. Very big if.

Regardless, Thome remains one of the greatest pure HR hitters ever. Perhaps the 2nd best ever behind Ruth. I personally don't count McGwire or Bonds' stats since they were cheaters IMO. Howard has been sliding down this list this year and will continue a steep slide down the list as he ages. That makes Thome's placement on this list of ABs per HR all the more incredible - he's maintained his high rank despite playing into his 40s.

[h=1]Jim Thome Open To Playing In 2013[/h]By Mike Axisa [December 11, 2012 at 2:50pm CST]
Jim Thome is MLB's active leader in walks (1,747) and strikeouts (2,548) and is second in homers (612), and he hopes to pad those totals further in 2013. The slugger told Jim Salisbury of CSNPhilly.com that he is not retired and is open to playing next season.
"I’m not retired," said Thome. "If someone wants me to play, I’d consider it for sure. I feel good. If I didn’t feel good, I wouldn’t even consider it. But I feel good. I’d like to play."
Thome, 42, acknowledged that he fits best as a DH, but he is willing to consider a role with an NL team if the opportunity presents itself. "I still feel like I can give a team a veteran presence and get a big hit off the bench," he added.
Just last week we heard that Phillies manager Charlie Manuel and Orioles GM Dan Duquette were unsure if Thome would continue playing. The former Indians first baseman split last season between Philadelphia and Baltimore, hitting .252/.344/.442 with eight homers in 186 plate appearances while also missing time with back problems. Thome started four games at first base in 2012, his most action in the field since 2005.

Wow, what a pathetically written article, even for the corporate CM media.

First of all, stating that Thome's the leading active player in strikeouts is extremely negative and inappropriate. And really now, does anyone care that he's the leading active player in walks? And then to merely call him the second leading home run hitter among active players does a disservice to his status and accomplishments.

Here's how the first paragraph should read in its entirety: "Jim Thome, major league baseball's seventh all-time leading home run hitter with 612, told a Philadelphia reporter that he isn't retired and is hoping to play in 2013."

God, do I despise the corporate media.

Thome, a Peoria native who graduated from Limestone High School in 1988, has been working out daily hoping to catch on with a big league club as a designated hitter/pinch-hitter. But the call never came.
“I don’t know if he’s retired,†said Thome’s father, Chuck. “He didn’t want to retire. He wanted to play. I’m glad he’s doing something. This has been in the fire for a long time. He’s been real antsy.â€
Chuck Thome said he wished his son had accepted one of the minor league contracts he was offered in spring training.
“If he’d have done that, he would at least have gotten some games in against live pitching and known if he was done or not,†he said. “Now if somebody called, he’d need a couple of weeks to get ready. I think he made a bad decision. But he’s made some pretty good decisions over the years.â€
The five-time All-Star ranks among baseball’s all-time leaders in home run ratio (fourth, 13.76), home runs (seventh, 612), walks (seventh, 1,747) OPS (20th, .956) and RBIs (24th, 1,699).
If Thome indeed has hung up his cleats, he would become Hall of Fame eligible following the 2017 season.

Thus likely ends the career of one of the greatest HR hitters of all time, if not the greatest since Babe Ruth. All without any fanfare, no season-long farewell tours, no nostalgic automatic selections to the All Star team for an aging all time great. Jim Thome is without question the most underrated player of our generation. Too bad you weren't black Jim, you'd have been a national hero on every tv channel and commercial.

This is sad but true. Jim also got outshined by all the steriod cheats at the height of his career. If he had played in any other era, he'd be a legend.

Thome on the legitimate career home run list is behind only Aaron, Ruth, Mays, and possibly Griffey (and I have doubts about Griffey). Thome is the best pure slugger since Aaron retired almost 40 years ago yet the CM media is collectively happy to see Jim go. Reminds me of their unbridled, almost rabid hatred when athletes like Roger Clemens and Brett Favre refused to retire and continued to compete at an extremely high level despite their advanced athletic years. Thome wasn't hated, just ignored and occasionally complimented in between the non-stop worship of blacks. A real shame, but that's how virulently anti-White Amerika works.

I tip my hat to one of the greatest homerun hitters I have ever seen. He did it the right way and despite not cheating like so many others he still hit over 600 home runs. He was amazing and such a classy person. Jim retired yesterday and they built a statue in his honor. He will eventually go into the hall of fame someday as a Cleveland Indian. He will be missed.

Thanks for posting! Glad to see Jim getting some recognition. This part is impressive

"The left-handed slugger also had a flair for the dramatic. He hit the longest home run in ballpark history, a 511-foot blast on July 3, 1999, against the Kansas City that landed close to where his statue stands. The Indians have put up a plaque nearby to honor the homer."
