For those of you out there planning on watcing Saturday's East- West Shrine game and you happen to see a shaggy-haired white RB puttering around and you start wondering,"who the heck is that".The guys name is Jesse Lumsden from McMaster University in Hamilton,Ontario,Canada. He is coming off a monster year in 2004 where he won the Hec Crighton award, which is the Canadian equivilancy to the Heisman. He set CIS(Canadian Interuniversity Sport) single season records for rushing,1,816 yards, and TD's with 21 in only 8 games. For his career he rushed for 4,328 and 47 TD's which were OUA records(Ontario University Association),At 6'2 and 226 pounds he's a good blend of size, strength and speed. I don't know what his 40 is,but he can really run.Whether he gets a lot of playing time in the Shrine is Questionable,I thing it as important to do well in the 5 days of practice leading up to the game, what with all the scouts checking out your every move.Should Jesse do well at the Shrine the next step would be an invite to the combine in Indy and with more positve results there he could end being a late round pick or a non-drafted free-agent.A fellow from the K.C.Chiefs scout website is high on Lumsden and thinks he is the best player to come out of the CIS in years and feels he couldgo a lot higher in the draft.I think that's getting too far ahead of the game.If things don't go so well Jesse is still projected as being a first round pick in this years CFL draft, possibly first over-allto Calgary.Good-luck,Jessie.
