I'd rather see Urban stick than Long if it comes down to that. He's easily a better big play threat than Bowe and Chris "legs of cement and hands of steel" Chambers. And Haley showed with Arizona that he's willing to keep more than one White receiver.

Which tells you quite a bit about the pathetic nature of the Chiefs wide receiver corps last year. Lance Long was inactive for the last four or five games, and with the stellar line up of Chambers, Dwayne Bowe, Bobby Wade, etc. Chambers looked like a superstar, as compared to the guys lining up with him!

It's the same thing with Michael Clayton on the Bucs. The guy had a really good rookie year (2004) but hasn't done squat since. There's NO reason this guy should be on an NFL roster no less being paid as much as he is. I guess being a 1st round black bust enables you an almost endless amount of time to reach that so called "potential" that only blacks seem to have...

Look at his stats, how can they justify this guy still being a starting WR or even a backup player?

Before OTAs: An addition via unrestricted free agency, Urban was in line to compete for an opportunity of everyday offensive work for the first time in his six-year career.


During OTAs: Urban had a lousy first week of practice. He dropped passes and, self-admittedly, was trying to do too much on the field. After Memorial Day, however, something clicked. Urban came back like a new man, catching pass after pass and finding the end zone on a consistent basis. In the process, he became a favorite of Matt Cassel on mid-level routes.


After OTAs: Urban looks to be in line for the most extensive action of his career. If he's not in the Chiefs game plan once the regular season rolls around, something will have to take a downturn in training camp and/or the preseason. Urban left OTAs as one of the Chiefs most reliable targets.


Haley Says: "I think he gets pigeon-holed in this possession-type role, at least some of the things I've heard or even talking to him. What Jerheme can do is run. He's big and fast and can stretch the field and you can't have enough of those guysand he's a guy at least he's proven to me that he'll do anything asked of him on special teams to give him a chance to help us."Edited by: Don Wassall

Here are some speed numbers for Urban.

He needs to be used to stretch the field to take advantage of his speed. I was surprised when I checked several draft sites and Urban wasn't even listed in the top 100 receiver prospects. I guess playing for a small school had something to do with it as well.

Where is Urban? Has he even made it in to a game? He has yet to register a catch and I haven't seen him on the field the could times I check out the Chiefs games.

i was actully checking on him today, he only had 1 catch in their first game and the only recentnews on him i could find was this blurb on kansascity.sbnation.com:

The drafting of McCluster may have meant Urban is going to get screwed over yet again. Todd Haley was raving about him a while back, saying he was going to get the ball more this year than ever before (see the articlethree posts up), but I'm getting a bad feeling. But with Chris Chambers having sucked most of the past few seasons and Dwayne Bowe being an erratic prima donna with hands of stone, Urban may yet prove to be invaluable to the Chiefs simply by biding his time this season.

I think you mean he's had a problem of not catching the ball.

No, his hands aren't the best, but they are at least average for the league as a whole considering all the butterfingers who have starting jobs. He has the talent to be a big suprise this season if he does indeed start.

Is anyone definite that Urban is a starter? A few depth charts I checked listed Breaston as the starter.

Breaston is not fully recovered anyway, but if even rotoworld places Urban ahead of him, there must be something there... we shall see soon enough!
