Is Wayne Fontes a mulatto?

Reading The Wall Street Journal's remembrance of William Clay Ford and its mention of Wayne Fontes (one of 17 DET head coaches under WCF's reign, and one of the more successful) jogged my memory - and prompted to me to ask: Is Fontes part black? All those sideline closeups got me thinking. I don't trust Wiki on this one.

Yes, Fontes probably has some black ancestry on his father's side, but not enough to be a mulatto; probably a quadroon or octoroon. His father was from Cape Verde, where the Portuguese colonists mixed with Africans. According to Wikipedia most of the population there is mixed or "creole".

I always thought he was Puerto Rican having an Iberian surname and looking unusually swarthy for a "full blooded" European. One thing though if he is "Black" the media at the time never referred to him as a minority coach. I remember when Art Shell was the first Black head coach and many media outlets complained that he was the only one. You took the words right out of my mouth about Shell, wir. OTOH Wonder how many in the press knew about Fritz Pollard in the 1920's. Yes, I always thought Fontes was part black.

I never thought Fontes was part black,but I always wondered why he spoke Ebonics.If he were part black,I'm sure the Marxist media would've let everybody know about it every time they could.Speaking of Fontes,I refer to Buffalo Bills Director Of Pro Personnel Jim Monos as Wayne Fontes Jr. due to him being another swarthy white man(who shaves his head bald making it even more confusing) that speaks Ebonics.It's probably the main reason Doug Whaley hired him.BTW,I am also a swarthy white man but can assure you I NEVER speak Ebonics,not even in jest !!!!
